❤️ Ting Wei from Linkedin nicely articulated some of the challenges faced by private-hire drivers. I have experienced first hand what it takes to drive day-in and day-out. It is monotonous, back-breaking (from seating too long) with irregular meals and stretching toilet breaks to earn a little more cash.
Occasionally, you will suffer abuse from an abrasive passenger. I probably and humbly have only felt a small portion of the pressures faced by drivers. It requires a lot of mental resilience. You feel drained out by the end of the day. You just want to have a meal with rice and head to bed after. Then get up the next morning and do the same thing all over again. I respect their daily industry and contribution to our larger community.
I have deep respect for anyone who has raised a family driving taxis (or private hire) - and eventually send their children through school. They earned their money the hard way. Dollar by dollar, trip by trip, month by month - year after year. No job is easy. Driving is not easy - with little prospect of career progression.
I see that more often than not it is the goal of providing more for their loved ones that keeps one going on this job - and to sustain for the longer term.
