וינונה ריידר מככבת בדרמת מתח ואימה בדיונית חדשה. עלילת הסדרה המדוברת של נטפליקס נפתחת באינדיאנה ב-1983, כאשר וויל באיירס בן ה-12 נעלם לפתע בעיירה שקטה. אמו, ג'וייס, לא מרפה מנסיונותיה למצוא אותו, בעוד מפקד המשטרה, הופר, מתחיל בחקירה משלו אודות קונספירציות, ניסויים ממשלתיים וכוחות על טבעיים. באותו יום מופיעה ילדה מסתורית בעלת כוחות מוזרים, וגם כוח אפל ומרושע. הסדרה, שכבר עכשיו יש המשווים אותה לקלאסיקות קולנועיות כמו "אי־טי" ו"הגוניס", נוצרה ברוח נוסטלגית לסרטי הפולחן מהאייטיז.
