Woah, just had a friend in suburban San Diego say that he did a long exposure shot, and got saw a definite pink band rising from the horizon. Not visible to the eye, only on the long exposure.

btw, if you have a cell phone camera that does long exposures (e.g. iPhone "Night Mode"), those are really good at picking up the aurora, even if it isn't visible to the naked eye
