man, if that photo is up to date with the prices... it's like half the price of Safeway for tomatoes
I'vd found that 99 Ranch has similar prices
like the one on 25th st in san mateo, where they *only* have farm fresh produce/meats/etc but like nothing more processed than what you'd get from like a butcher or whatever
Читать полностью…I think there's a bit of a misnomer going on here, the things that we call "farmer's markets" in the bay area where it's basically a mini street fair... not the real "farmer's markets". real ones are just known here as "produce markets"
Читать полностью…Never heard of a farmer's market taking tokens or debit cards. i would have thought a lot of the sellers there were cash only. do you know of a specific one that does?
Читать полностью…OH I forgot the best thing!!
So, in many places, farmers markets give you 2:1 on EBT! You can go to a state run kiosk to spend your Foodstamps to get $2 tokens at $1/ea - You double your SNAP at fresh food markets nationwide!
yeah... and that's one of the areas where it being a federal program sucks a bit. they're looking at a national average and giving themselves wiggle room to save money.
Читать полностью…yeah, I was on snap for a while, but my income now is just like, barely above their threshold so i got kicked off
Читать полностью…And the fact that your EBT card works in any state is proof alone that they intend it to be used regardless of where you are - please don't restrict yourself from food based on that if you can 💜
Читать полностью…Also, keep in mind, according to the AARP earlier this year, only 13 states tax groceries

And like, just because I'm in another state doing end of life care for a family member doesn't change my financial situation much so like, I don't feel guilty at all 😆I gotta eat.
Читать полностью…but like I think it's one of those things that works federally but acts locally, sorta like driver's licenses
Читать полностью…that would make sense, yes. what's a produce market? i've only really shopped at supermarkets or small grocery stores
Читать полностью…I'm fairly certain I've seen that here in Ann Arbor. I wanna say the San Diego ones did as well
Читать полностью…Definitely a lot more heterogeneous, but it's a cool program and option where it's available.
Читать полностью…There's no shame in having SNAP or using it while traveling. I always feel weird having EBT and Non EBT purchases on the same bill, but it's literally called "SUPPLEMENTAL" - it's there to help offset costs.
Читать полностью…I'm sorry the sales tax factors in to your mental math so much for food, genuinely, but don't let that stop you from accessing it. 💜
Читать полностью…yeah, I was just also thinking in terms of the fact that a) I was only out of town for 2 weeks and b) I was going to somewhere that had a lower sales tax rate
Читать полностью…It's only administered by each state, like ACA, but the money is still federally appointed - states can determine eligibility on their own but the money comes from the Fed. Is okay :P
