New CEO,, pulling this shit on their employees likely means they're doing other cost-cutting shit. In the late 90s, new guy in charge of parks introduced a "clever" math-based approach called "reliability-centered maintenance' that roughly amounts to 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' and led to a series of dumb accidents and deaths at the Anaheim park which had always had a pretty safe record.. Employees would report odd sounds and small mechanical problems and nothing would get done, until a car rolled backwards on a steep incline crashing into another car killing a guest.
