You say popular media. What are some examples of ace people negatively represented? 🤔
As a former aroace of 20 years, I have never experienced any of this. However, I have experienced more negative representation of overtly sexually positive people in the form by not taking no for an answer/not taking someone's choice to be ace seriously, or use sex parties to create exclusions and smaller cliques of elitism surrounding certain kinks or interest groups.
For example, many in the pup community who have gear seldom interact the same way to people not in gear. Essentially, pay to play/not really a part of the community unless you can afford the look.

This has done such an incredible number on how people in authority view asexuals in the fetish community that when I ran for SoCal fetish last year, one of the judges actually asked me to my face about how I am sex positive as an asexual person

Most Ace and Aroace folks I know don't advertise as well, so I wonder how many actually feel underrepresented or a need to be put more in the spotlight.

In fact, looking back on the ace representation characters over the last 20 to 30 years, I only see aro/Ace in American media and if they're not a romantic, they also stop being ace sometime within the peace of media. Like somehow being ace is a sickness or a flaw to be corrected.
And when we have gotten any actually good ace media representation. It's always been in small unpopular independent projects that literally nobody ever watches.
Alastor from has been hotel is the first really good and popular example of a non-faust ace. He is not inclined to sex himself, but he doesn't shut down the sexual energy of those around him. Is perfectly fine with angel flirting with husk flirting with surpentious and doesn't interfere with that at all. He never openly expresses a distaste for or a lack of willingness to be around people with sexual energy. Aside from giving non-consent statements to Angel, he's generally fine around angel.
0.025% of all title holders are openly ace out of 4k+ (ie there is one currently reigning)
Our pup scene has 5-10% aces
