Some may say that if we have single 3X or 5X leverage ETFs and battle ETFs is a sign of froth in the market but I choose to think that with the advancement of ETF, you can have speculation in different ways.
Many of these ETFs will be short lived.
However, what we want to know also is WHY and HOW they can be tricky.
I read the commentary from Victor over at Elm Wealth. Victor was a former hedge fund guy and could not find a financial advisory solution for people like him and open up Elm Wealth.
And he puts his knowledge on what we need to watch out for in a post like this.
If I were to boil it down its:
There is a cost to these power and it comes from the need to rebalance. It is not that much of an issue during a long only portfolio but if you do a 3X leverage or a long + short strategy, the rebalancing will eat away returns even if your position goes in the direction you want.
