I'm in this really weird place right now where I'm tired of making art, but I also really want to make art.
I'm ready for some variety, I think. The project I'm currently working on for Factory Obscura has me locked in to basically one material (for now) and repeating the same process over and over. It gets to be very assembly line from time to time.
I am not complaining AT ALL. I am so grateful for the opportunity to get to do this project. I am recognizing something tricky about how my brain works.
My goal is to be a full-time artist. Occasionally you'll hear someone say that you shouldn't turn your passion into a job because it will cause you to hate it.
I don't think I could ever hate art, but I do want to be conscious about how various parts of the creation process affect my energy. I want to put systems in place to help me when I start to get restless with a project. I haven't figured out what that should be.
I wish I had time to garden. I actually think that would help.

So now I'm thinking, when I have some free time in my studio (after I finish my work for Factory Obscura and the 20+ unfinished projects in my studio) that I may play around with trying to translate my collage style into something 3d. Kinetic find object assemblage art or something.
I have pretty strong ideas about what this would look like, I just need to learn how to do the kinetic part.

I'm not very consistent about keeping up with sketchbooks. I'll carry one around with me for weeks at a time, but then I'll leave it at home and not carry one for a year. Sometimes I work in my various art journals and sketch books when I'm in my studio.
What I really like about this collage app is that it functions in a way that's similar to what sketch books do for me.
My sketchbooks have rarely ever been a place where I plan projects. They have almost always been a place to express myself creatively in whatever style or medium makes me happy.
These collages work the same way. It's just fun to do. And it's a great exercise.
The app has lots of tools to make your collages, and there are lots of different ways to find the pieces you put into your collage. I give myself little challenges, like sticking to a really strict color palette, or placing things in a looser arrangement than I'm normally comfortable with.
I've made hundreds of these little digital collages now.
I'm doing an art market this weekend. It's running alongside this musical festival.
I'm a little nervous. I've only done one other market, and I suspect this is going to be quite a bit busier. The weather is supposed to be absolutely perfect though.

I specifically did this one to be as much like my clay pieces as possible. I chose the same kind of shapes I would have used, and layered it all the same way. I didn't actually finish it according to my own usual process, but I maxed out the number of layers.
Anyway, it was an interesting experiment. It looks ok, but it's not anywhere near as strong as my other collages, in my opinion. This specific style really needs to be 3d.
My collages may seem like they're really different from the other work I do, but they actually have a lot in common. I use a really similar method for layering. The way I arrange things is really similar too.
I wonder if that's obvious to everyone, or if only I can see it because I do it.
