Map of asteroids in the solar system 🪨
The map shows the orbits of more than 18 thousand asteroids. About 10 thousand of them have a diameter of 10 kilometres or more.

The Ring Nebula is the result of the death of a star like the Sun 💫
When the star exhausted its supply of hydrogen, it began to react with helium and swelled to become a red giant.
However, the star's mass was insufficient for further reactions and it shed its atmosphere, leaving behind a hot core. The ultraviolet radiation from the core ionised the ejected matter, making it visible.

The Sturgeon Blue Supermoon 2024 (19 Aug. 2024) will be visible in the sky.
The so-called "Sturgeon Moon" is a combination of a super moon and a "Blue Moon" that happens about once every 15 years.
The moon will be large, bright and will emit a blue hue.

NASA showed what happens if you get inside a black hole 🛰
The process of getting into a black hole has been called "spaghettification". The object is stretched like a noodle during the interaction.
The simulation is created in two views. In one, the camera shows the approach to a supermassive black hole, spiral around it and cross the event horizon. This is the zone of no return, which nothing can leave. In the other case, a conditional traveller approaches the event horizon but does not cross it.
It took the supercomputer over 5 days to create this video, on a normal laptop it would have taken 10 years.

According to Stephen Hawking, if this were true, the universe "would have been neither created nor destroyed. It just would have been." The scary part: if there was nothing before the Big Bang, how long did it last before the universe came into existence?

American scientists have proposed a way to raise the temperature on Mars, which would make it possible for liquid water to exist on the planet's surface 🟠
Increasing the temperature by 70 degrees Celsius could be achieved by raising a large amount of dust in the atmosphere, which would trap heat. To do this, scientists propose modifying the dust so that it lets light through but prevents heat from escaping into space.
The supernova remnants of SH2-240 represent the result of a star explosion that occurred about 40,000 years ago 💥
The explosion left behind a vast region filled with gas filaments, shock waves and the neutron pulsar star PSR J0538 + 2817. This region is 3,000 light years away from Earth.

🟠 Liquid water has been found on Mars in large quantities for the first time.
The water is 10-20 kilometres below the planet's surface. Scientists used the same methods that find underground water on Earth and found signs that there is water in the Martian interior too.
Frozen water exists at the planet's poles and there are traces of vapour in its atmosphere, but this find is the first known instance of liquid water.
🪐 Rings of Uranus
It has a total of 13 rings, with the inner narrow bands having a dark grey hue and the outer rings (ν and μ) shining brightly.
These rings are mostly composed of extremely dark particles with an albedo below 2%, suggesting a composition of water ice combined with darker organic matter.
Purple Earth
Astrobiologists suggest that Earth may have once been purple. Before the dominance of plants, ancient microbes may have used a light-absorbing molecule called retinol, which gave them a purple hue.
