It is most often used to express an extreme like or love for an object. For example, Me encanta el chocolate is translated as I love chocolate.

TODAY'S VERB: GUSTAR (TO LIKE) 👍🏽
The verb “gustar” is another -ar ending verb, but it conjugates differently than regular verbs.
A direct translation for “I like the book”, the structure in Spanish would be “to me is pleasing the book”
