some people have been dm'ing me asking what i think about Dungeons of Fortune (https://x.com/FortuneDungeons) because they've seen me rt'ing and commenting and this is too long to write over and over so i'm putting it all in one place here
i invested because it's been a long time since i've seen an actually well thought out creative attempt to make a successful gamefi game
tokenomics are everything for gamefi -- axie and stepn were insanely popular in '21, but due to the inflationary nature of their token, the token sinks weren't enough to prevent the death spiral from overinflation
Dungeons of Fortune has an ingame currency called $COINS -- a lot of thought has gone into designing this game, so i encourage anyone who is actually interested in playing the game to read through the documentation (https://docs.dof.gg/), but basically the supply is elastic .. there are times where inflation will outpace deflation, and times where deflation outpaces inflation -- it will all be dependent on ingame activity and rng
i won't list all the sinks (they're in the docs), but there will be gacha... good dopamine chase token sink ... i torched so much money in stepn trying to roll super rare gems … disgusting amounts
if you don't care about playing the game and just want to know “why should i hold this token and will it go up?”, it basically comes down to:
launching at like 2-3m mcap ciruclating 4-5m fdv ... ceiling feels high + the bank mechanism allows users to stake their $COINS if they want to earn yield (which comes from the graveyard, bank, etc. … read the docs ok)
people have been yearning for a GOOD ponzi, but the issue is that 1) people just reuse old ponzis that we all know the playbook to and they don't work and 2) they're too confusing
the issue with past ponzi iterations is that they're too predictable -- it becomes too easy to forecast the collapse and each time we've seen it, the life cycle has gotten shorter and shorter
by having in-game player activity responsible for basically all of your deflation, there's no way to predict (with like certain accuracy anyway) where the supply is headed ... you could have someone on max tilt just ripping all the $COINS into gambling with minimal player activity at a certain point and the supply will deflate, etc.
i don't think inflation is felt until much later and even then, the token sinks are really good -- if you don't think anyone will play the game, then supply not rly gonna inflate anyway, but i think people will at least be willing to try it
basically i think at the marketcap it's launching at, it can do well on that alone, but for this to be a great token, it will need players – if people play the game, i think it will do really well -- just depends on whether or not there's enough people around that are willing to try something new vs just playing red light green light with a memecoin
