Me: this time i mainly focused on improving my english communication skills, as in my previous interview i couldnt express myself properly so this time i did ielts where i scored overall band of 7.5 not less than 7.

Me: i really like everything about physics, but if i had to mention a specific topic then it would defineterly be projectile motion.
VO: Whats that?
Me: its a 2dimensional motion where we mainly use vector laws to determine all the variables of a certain object... like we use projectile motion to know the path of a dropping object from planes.. also the way a basketball player throws a ball, it is also an example of projectile motion.

Me: officer, i also create music videos in youtube... i am also a rapper.

Me: Yes officer I studied biology. And I really like to learn about the biochemical reactions of the human body, diseases, and how it works. I just said what came in my mind at that moment.

Me: Officer, my uncle and my elder brother will be sponsering me.
VO: Why not your parents?
Me: officer, I lost my father when I was just 2 yrs and since thenn my uncle and his family have been taking care of all my expenses.

Me: Officer my elder brother is working as a post doctoral scholar employee at University of California at Berkeley and earns 70k USD and my uncle is a registered auditor and has been auditing since 15 yrs and
earns 20k USD.
VO: what kind of research? I exactly don't remember.
Me: He is doing research in physics field and will return to Nepal after completing his research.

Me: yes officer I use both fb and insta.

I was scared but smiled through out the line, biometrics and till I stood in front of Indian Visa Officer.

Me:it's cheaper officer

Me:Yes! Now it's 14600 and previously it was 23500

Vo: and your mother has a plant nursery, yes?
Me:Yes! Shall I tell you more about what they do?
Vo:No its okay. I can see that here.
Vo:Do your parents live with you?
Me:Yes! They live with me here in Kathmandu.
Vo: what English proficiency test have you given this time?
Me:It is the same as my first attempt

As someone who has faced both rejection and approval, I would say both hardwork and luck matters.
It took me so long to share my experience as life was chaotic in this past one month,but I hope this helps someone and brings out hope for people who are reapplying:)

My Visa Interview Experience – August 4, 2025

Line ma basda halka guff gardai thiye aru students sanga. Most of them were second-time applicants. Line ma around 50 jati thiyen (F1 ra Tourist visa mix), jasma 13 jana students le pink slip paayeko dekhe. Around 6 7 tw jana second attempt ma pink slip payen.
Mero Interview yesto rahyo:
Me: Good morning officer! Nice to meet you again.
VO: Good morning boy. Did I take your interview previously?
Me: No officer, I saw you during the USEF session but you didn’t take my interview earlier.
VO: Ohh, can you pass me your documents?
Me: Sure sir. (I handed over my I-20 and transcript)
(VO looked at them for 10 seconds)
VO: What changes this time?
Me: This time I’ve been selected into the Honors Program. Also, I’ve completed core CS courses like Data Structures, Intro to AI, and Web Development. On top of that, I did a 50-day internship at ……(keep it private) Pvt. Ltd, a software company in Kathmandu.
VO: (Interrupting) Same university? Any reduction in cost of attendance?
Me: Yes, same university sir. My family can easily afford the cost now. Also, last time I wasn’t rejected for financial reasons.
VO: Why this university?
Me: I chose this university because it offers an interdisciplinary Computer Science program that combines courses in data science, AI, and software engineering. It emphasizes research, innovation, and hands-on learning. The university is also connected with companies like Infosys and IBM through its internship and co-op programs, which will help me gain practical experience in the tech industry. I entered the embassy exactly at 8:30 am. Interview ko palo aaune ber samma 11 baji sakeko thiyo. Jamma 3 counters were open, bald vo, indian vo, ra tall american vo thiyo. Bald vo was not even listening to the answers and handing a yellow slip, technically ma tei counter ma parnu parne thiyo but by god's grace mero palo aaunu bhanda exactly 3 jana aagadi he closed his counter and ma tall american ko ma pare.

Me: (I legit asked which one, even though Malai bahirai yo yo doc dinu bhanera pathako thiyo)

( clear bag bata nikalera didai thiye then he asked DS ma kun social media mention gareko xa and I said Instagram. He asked 3 questions consecutively if I was sure mero aru kunai social media xaina. He even named the apps and asked if I was using any of them. I said no because I thought maile xa bhani bhane I will get rejected)
He then pulled a pink slip and told me to set my social media account to public. I said it's public already then he told me to keep it that way and handed me the pink slip.
I've been waiting for well over a month now. Maile last week dekhi sabai hope lose garisakeko thiyo but aaja my faith in US embassy is restored😂. One thing I have realized is, yo 10 second ma visa reject gardinxa is not true if your answers are non-generic and well presented. I wasn't very confident interview ko ek din aagadi samma pani but interview ko din, I was very confident mostly because I was well dressed and I had faith in my presentation skills. I was superrrr scared because mero COA is too high and cross question garyo bhane academic portion ko lagi pani thoroughly prepared thina ma but testo kunai question aayena, dhanna.
I saw a lot of people with good english, good answers but terrible presentation. I would suggest everyone applying to not hassle while answering, jhut nai bolirako bhaye pani confidently bhannu, loosen up your body, speak as if you're speaking to your friend while being respectful, of course. Thank youu

at least use rest room I used 2 times but yeah back to topic as u enter u have to be in line and do finger print so back when u are in documents checking counter they will say if you have to be in 5 or 6 as there is only 2 for bio metric so they will check ur passport with 2×2 photo and then when confirmed u have to sit again for whole 20 minutes before u can be ready for interview and definitely when it's time for interview don't forget to drink water because it will help u so when I did that and be in line I wasn't even nervous at all like seriously I did eye smile which is smiling expression but not big smile so only I was smiling and that's good and rare but if anyone noticed me let me know and u have to smile and analyze the visa officer like listen carefully what he say that question and how student answers and as it urs turn so let me tell u that if it's ur afternoon interview and if crowd is big there could be interviewer in bio metric at counter number 6 as in my case there was a guy with glass and he has trimmed beard and he was mostly rejecting a lot even my grave consultancy friend who got full scholarship and with gpa of 3.64 and itels 7.5 gpa got rejected and one girl who weared green coat and green pant litreally said really well still got so unexpected and back to topic as in counter no 7 there was chubby young American girl she asked so many questions and was really nice btw and in counter number 8 there was a skinny indian who also rejected a lot like he ask 2 to 3 question max and do rejection and in counter 9 again it's indian but he is mostly black with glass he also rejected a lot of students and another one was in counter 10 was American with trimmed beard line but he was kinda like dad type and he was also tall and so most worst vo is from counter no 6, 8 9 and 10 and 11 counter is for cashier or something but still not necessary so yeah this is my experience so far

lol also some are older especially for tourist visa so most were happy and feeling confident and the environment and we are making documents ready like and that's it so like u have to wait 30 minutes or longer but It was one of my biggest line and as it's ur turn they will check and put sticker & scan the code in passport and then if everything was finished for 1st line then u have to enter the building and then u have to give them ur documents and then enter the metal detector and ngl those machines are really advanced and then u have to push the door to go outside the building again to then enter the main lobby but upon that u will see 4 each by each bench but it's actually 8 bench where u have to sit and wait so when u enter u will see everything that happens like interview and everything as there is counters so from counter 1 which is not used or maybe it could but no one didn't but from counter 2 to 4 it's document check so that's where documents is being checked and then after waiting and checking the documents again u have to go outside for on an average 30 minutes dependent on people crowd but in my case I have to be in line just to sit there so I sit and waited and from there u can see garden and everything and ( I see one girl with pink shirt and black pant plz message me if u read this ) and also one girl who is didi who is buma khatri if you read this let me know

Me: officer while writing my conference papaer i have been through the Research article of professor name and found umass lowell went through University website and approach professor through mail for phd position under him.

Me: i have submitted my transcripts and published paper through mail to professor and after interview i got this RA. And my Role as maily consists of helping professor in lab in data collection performing experiment and other extra work which would be guided by professor.

Me: yes officer from done my master's from iitp where i have published one journal paper and attended international conference to.

(My mind went blank for a while.🙉).I was the first one to get F1 Visa that morning. Even getting from Young American made mefeel more proud.
That was totally an 'I made it' moment for me after a year of dedication and hard work.😭🎉🇺🇸
Tips from my side :
■ Make answers in points, don't memorize long vague answers.
■ Analyze the type of answer VO expects while you are in line. Some prefer long descriptiveanswers while others prefer straight forward answers.
■ Nervousness = direct rejection, no matter how good your answer is.
■ Dress well, trim hair, be in discipline from the beginning, have a neutral smile, and lookdirectly into the eyes while answering.
■ Stand straight and also move your hands while answering.

so as if some is rejected or accepted so front door is for entering and back door is for going and even if ur interview is finished u have to use left door or checking room as I see a lot of doing and also garden which is really huge so then when it's ur turn u have to be in long line and again when ur inside u are able to use rest room as there are only 2 and ngl the rest room really surprised me like u can carry ur documents go inside put the documents as u enter and then do ur business and as u step back its automatic flushing toilet and then even the tap is automatic and as u wash u can pull the tissue paper and wipe ur hand and then again if needed insert the hand in the machine it will automatically start to warm ur hand and in that side there was something like u have to put 25 cents usd but it's not needed so then if you want to drink water its near rest room u have to grab paper cup and then again it's automatic tap that u can drink pure water easily and then use trash can to throw paper cup and yeah 💯 percent recommend

So My interview in appointment confirmation letter was actually in 2:30 pm but my interview happened I think in 4:38 because of waiting as I come at usa embassy nepal in 12:50 pm and but got entered in 1:10 pm and not gonna lie but that embassy was really good like feels like i came in another country and the flag of usa was really big there was at least 3 police with rifle and every saftey protocol and other guard which is male is for entering for people and another side was a gate for car to enter only for diplomatic most cars are ford Everest car btw with blue nepali number plate and those people who enter is most likely at higher position in usa embassy some are nepali or indian but most are white American and like they are so much like the internal job was really big in my opinion and not to mention the window are bullet proof and also the door was really heavy weight so back to the topic and the line was really really long like so long it goes endless and I see everyone really with good dressing as boys are wearing blazer and most are just wearing shirt and pants and girls is also doing some makeup are dressing like everyone going to bihe

Status: refused (white slip 214b)
Date: July 17, 2025
Time: 9:15 AM
Embassy: Islamabad
University: purdue university northwest(same in 1st and 2nd attempt)
Course: master in applied artificial intelligence ( same in 1st and 2nd attept)
This was my second attempt for the F1 visa. Compared to my first interview on December 16, 2024, there were fewer applicants in the embassy this time, visa ratio also is very low compared to first interview.
I observed that out of around 200 to 300 applicants (or maybe more), I only saw about 5 visa approvals during my time at the embassy. Of course, this is just my assumption based on what I witnessed while I was there — it’s possible that more visas were approved earlier or later in the day. But during the time I was present, most people seemed to be getting rejected, especially those who went to the same visa officer as me.
At the time of my arrival, there were four counters open—two male visa officers (VOs) on the left side and two female VOs on the right side. The queue splits in the middle, and applicants are arranged by the staff.
After waiting for around 25 to 30 minutes, it was my turn. I was directed to the left side, where the two male officers were conducting interviews. One of them was calm and seemed to listen to applicants patiently. The other officer, however, was overweight, visibly irritated, and rejecting almost everyone by handing out yellow slips. Most of the interviews he conducted lasted barely 1–2 minutes. People were clearly nervous about facing him.2 applicants try to change the queue to avoid this guy but the staff stopped them
I personally saw two approvals from him:
• One F1 visa applicant (received a pink slip),
• One B1 visa applicant (a news reporter).
Unfortunately, I ended up in front of the tougher visa officer. Here’s how my interview went:
Interview Conversation
Me: Good morning.
VO: Good morning.
(I passed my passport and I-20.)
VO: Why did you choose this university?
Me: (Briefly explained my reason. I also mentioned that I had applied before but was refused. I said that I wanted to clarify the misunderstanding about my previous interview—I hadn't properly explained my travel history, specifically a trip to Saudi Arabia five years ago, which is why I selected "No" on the DS-160.)
VO: Where did you graduate from?
Me: (Told the name of the university.)
VO: In which course?
Me: (Shared the course name.)
VO: What did you do after your master’s?
Me: (Started answering)
(While I was speaking, he silently picked up the white refusal slip and handed it to me.)
VO: Thank you, try next time.
My Experience & Observations
I genuinely don’t believe in the myth that visa officers make decisions before the interview—but after reading some experiences recently and facing this particular VO, I started to see a pattern. He was asking the same 4–5 basic questions to refused ones, and most of the time, the information was already available in the DS-160 and I-20:
• Why this university?
• When did you graduate?
• What was your course?
• What have you been doing since graduation? Or after master?
He seemed disinterested in listening to explanations or follow-up clarifications. His body language and facial expressions showed no intention of engaging in a proper discussion.
I know most of the time vo don't look they keep engaged in the screen.
Right now i am bit confuse should i try one more time or just leave it or try for another country? Because now i have 2 refusal and chances of getting visa is way less
Should i change uni or course? Or appear with same uni and course?
Need advice?
