Varun Beverages Ltd: The company, a key player in the global beverage industry with operations spanning across 10 countries with franchise rights and additional 4 countries with distribution rights, witnessed a solid year-over-year growth of 11% in revenues from operations in Q1CY244. Consolidated sales volume grew by 7.2% to 240.2 million cases in Q1CY24 while net realization per case increased by 3.5% to Rs. 179.7 on account of improving product mix in India and higher contribution of International markets which have higher realization per case, driving the top line. The EBITDA margin improved 240 bps to 22.9% in the quarter, led by higher gross margins and increased realization. Notably, PAT climbed 24.9% to Rs. 5,479.8 million in Q1CY24 driven by volume growth, increase in net realization and improved profit margins. Encouragingly, for the 2018-2023 period, revenue, EBITDA and PAT grew at a CAGR of 25.7%, 29.1% and 47.6%, respectively. According to management, “as we move into peak season, the growth outlook stays no way different from the past few years and the performance, given the strong heatwaves prevailing across India during the summer quarters, where we are.” Also, Varun Beverage’s strategic investments focused towards enhancing production capabilities and new acquisitions are likely to strengthen its global presence and help establish a solid platform for sustained growth in the forthcoming period. Positive on Varun Beverages given favorable demand drivers for the current quarter and strategic investment moves.
Hindustan Unilever: Hindustan Unilever 1QFY25 performance was in line with the consensus estimates. Company has been expanding its TAM (total addressable market) by reinvesting in existing categories, adding new products, and using e-commerce to drive penetration. HUL saw a moderate sequential sales growth amid stable demand while negative realisation growth continued for the second consecutive quarter. Since rural growth is still lagging urban, the 4% underlying volume growth (UVG) in Q1FY25 was led by organised and premium segments. The growth in the premium category remans resilient across segments, while e-comm and modern trade channels continued to report growth. Home Care, the largest segment, was led by strong performance in each category across mass and premium brands. The Beauty & Wellbeing segment saw rising hair-care demand in the mass categories. HUL has a structural portfolio advantage as it covers all price points. Resurgence of rural demand could see both mix and tonnage contributing to the UVG in the coming quarters, while a decent monsoon augurs well for rural consumption demand. HUL is aiming for a sustainable volume growth, led by distribution expansion, digital initiatives, and a ramp-up of the alternate channel. Positive on HUL given the decent set of 1QFY25 performance.

Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd.: Colgate-Palmolive, the market leader in oral care in the country, reported better-than-anticipated 1QFY25 results driven by the revival in rural demand, which outpaced the urban markets for the second quarter in a row. The company’s revenue from operations increased 13% YoY to Rs.1,485.8 crore. EBITDA rose 21.5% YoY to Rs. 508.3 crore while the EBITDA margin expanded 240 basis points (bps) to 34%. The operational performance improved despite a 17% rise in employee related expenses. PAT witnessed YoY growth of 33% to Rs. 363.9 crore in Q1FY25. Notably, the toothpaste portfolio recorded double-digit growth in the quarter driven by high-single-digit volume growth, as stated by MD and CEO Prabha Narasimhan. Additionally, the toothbrush portfolio saw a concrete positive shift in competitive growth trajectory with strong double digit top-line growth. Colgate’s continued focus on category growth through “BrushatNight” campaign and sustained investment on superior communication are aiding this performance. Going forward, the company’s continued investment in brand building to strengthen its position in the oral care segment is likely to pay off well in the upcoming period. Various campaigns aimed at creating awareness and product reach will boost its performance further. Positive on Colgate-Palmolive given its good set of 1QFY25 numbers, the expected continuity in rural demand recovery and efforts to strengthen the brand name.
ICICI Bank: ICICI Bank delivered a steady performance posting a net profit of Rs 11,059 crore in Q1 FY25, a growth of 15% compared with 1QFY24. Despite the pressure on margin, the surge in profit was aided by a strong growth in advances, contained operating expenses, and more notably by a decline in credit costs. Non-interest income growth was solid, driven by higher dividend from subsidiaries and a healthy growth in fee income. ICICI Bank’s domestic loan book increased 16% YoY, driven by a broad-based growth across business segments. Retail credit grew 17% YoY, led by robust growth in the unsecured book. Mortgages, which is the largest segment within retail, grew 14% YoY. Corporate credit too saw good traction and increased 15% YoY. Deposit growth of 15% was a tad lower than the advances growth and was driven by a solid growth of 20% YoY in term deposits. The NIM on the domestic book moderated to 4.44% in Q1 FY25 from 4.88% in Q1 FY24. Despite an increase in operating expenses, led by employee costs, the cost-to-income ratio declined by 50 bps YoY in Q1 FY25. Employee expenses in Q1 FY25 reflected the impact of annual increments and promotions that take place during the first quarter of every fiscal year. Positive on ICICI Bank given the steady set of 1QFY25 performance.

Stock in Action
Kajaria Ceramics: Kajaria Ceramics continues to demonstrate robust profitability and solid execution despite sluggish retail demand. The management is hopeful of demand revival and has chalked out a strategy to scale up the business over the next three years. Tile volumes for FY24 stood at 108.1 million square metres (MSM), up 6% YoY. The tile business, which contributes nearly 90% to its top line, reported a modest revenue uptick in FY24. The growth in the consolidated top line was largely driven by new business verticals owing to the expansion of the product portfolio and entry into new markets. Sanitary ware/faucets and plywoods reported an impressive revenue growth of 15% and 35%, respectively. As per the management, the uptick in the real estate cycle should aid the demand prospects of Kajaria Ceramics with a lag of 1-2 years. The company is targeting a top line of Rs 6,500 crore by FY27, led by increased revenue contribution from new business verticals. Margins on an annualised basis are anticipated to be in the range of 15-17%. For the tile business, the management has guided to an 11-13 percent YoY volume growth, which will be driven by a combination of in-house capacity expansion and contract manufacturing. From a fundamental standpoint, Kajaria has exhibited impressive operating metrics throughout the past decade. Positive on Kajaria Ceramics given its various strategic initiatives and the scale-up of new business verticals should accelerate revenue growth.
Rainbow Children's Medicare Ltd: Rainbow is a niche player in the children’s health space. It is the largest children’s hospital in terms of bed capacity, having grown from a 50-bed single hospital in 1999 to 1,935 beds as of FY24. With the widest range of paediatric services offerings in the country, Rainbow operates on a high number of cases in tertiary and quaternary care. Its ARPOB stood at ~Rs 55,800 in FY24, growing 14% YoY. Its revenue and EBITDA have grown at a CAGR of 15% and 19%, respectively, between FY22 and FY24, with the EBITDA margin averaging at 32 percent. Its ROCE of ~25% also remains comparable with the listed peers in the industry. The company plans to add ~660 beds in the next three years to reach ~2,595 by the end of FY27, increasing its capacity by ~35 percent. This should aid volumes and occupancy in the coming years. Supported by its balance sheet strength and a healthy cashflow generation, Rainbow will be able to fund most of its expansion capex through internal accruals. Rainbow’s obstetrics-gynaecology segment also continues to grow well. Positive on Rainbow Children's Medicare as the company has ample room to benefit from secular growth trends.
