Stock in Action
Cummins India Ltd: Cummins India, a leading manufacturer of diesel and natural gas engines in the country, reported solid 1QFY25 results driven by robust domestic demand from all segments, especially from the industrial sector, and improvement in export demand from the end markets. Revenue from operations rose 4.1% YoY to Rs. 2,315 crore. EBITDA of Rs. 472 crore was up 38% YoY while EBITDA margin expanded 500 basis points to 20.4%. PAT jumped 30.8% YoY to Rs. 462 crore. Cummins India has a strong manufacturing backbone and boasts six state-of-the-art manufacturing plants, assembly, and distribution facilities. Going forward, the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development and continued higher budgetary allocation for infrastructure, special projects for end-to-end connectivity for ports, coal, steel, and fertilizer sectors is likely to aid demand for the company’s products. Additionally, management highlighted that for the Powergen sector, there is a complete switchover to CPCB IV+ emission norms-compliant products effective July 1, 2024. The company has a strong portfolio of CPCB IV+ emission norms-compliant products to meet customer demand across the entire product range. Further, it remains optimistic about the export demand given its diversified portfolio of products. For FY25, the company intends to grow at twice the GDP rate, targeting 13-14% growth. Positive on Cummins India given its good set of 1QFY25 numbers, solid portfolio quality and the Government of India’s continued focus on infrastructure development.
Marico Limited: Marico, one of India's leading consumer products companies, reported a 6.7% increase in revenue from operations to Rs. 2,643 crore in 1QFY25 aided by improving volumes and favorable pricing. The domestic business posted a modest uptick in underlying volume growth on sequential basis while the international business delivered double-digit constant currency growth driven by resilient and broad-based growth across markets. EBITDA came in at Rs. 676 crore, up 9.1% from Rs. 574 crore reported in the year ago quarter. EBITDA margin expanded 50 basis points to 23.7% in the quarter. PAT increased 8.7% YoY to Rs. 464 crore. Going forward, the company expects revenue growth to trend upwards during FY25 on the back of an improving trajectory in domestic volume growth and higher realizations due to the favorable pricing cycle in key domestic portfolios. Gross margin is likely to expand on a YoY basis owing to a favorable portfolio mix. Marico remains focused on diversification and premiumization of its India business. It recently announced that it will collaborate with renowned dermatological solutions provider, Kaya Limited, to advance its play in science-backed personal care. Additionally, the company aims to achieve 1.5 mm of direct reach by FY27 from 1 mm in FY24 through its 3-Year Phased Plan to drive profitable growth and competitive advantage. Positive on Marico given the good set of 1QFY25 numbers, expected revival in consumer demand (especially in the rural sector) and the company's focus on diversification and premiumization of its India business to drive profitable growth.

Stock in Action
Titan Company: The steep cut in custom duties announced in the Union Budget last month has improved the consumer sentiment considerably, leading to an accelerated growth in the current quarter. As indicated in the pre-quarter update, the top-line growth moderated slightly in Q1FY25. The key jewellery business demand growth moderated to 10% YoY as a steep increase in gold prices, lower wedding days, and heat waves affected demand. The jewellery business SSSG stood at 3% YoY. The eyewear business growth moderated sharply to 3% YoY. The watches and wearables business grew in low double digits led by new products. Titan broadly maintained gross and EBIDTA margins on a YoY basis in Q1FY25. Better cost management enabled the company to maintain margins despite the moderation in growth. Post a subdued Q1 owing to multiple factors, demand has gained momentum in the current quarter. The consumer sentiment got a boost post the 9% customs duty cut announced in the Union Budget last month. Owing to the custom duty cut and the consequent reduction in gold prices, a lot of pent-up demand has emerged in the industry. Consumers who were in the wait-and-watch mode, post the steep increase in gold prices in Q1, have come back and purchasing jewellery after the announcement of the duty cut. Titan is continuing with its healthy network expansion for the jewellery business. Flagship Tanishq brand is likely to open 40-50 new stores in the current fiscal. Positive on Titan company as the cut in custom duty during Union budget is likely to boost consumer sentiment.
Tata Motors ltd.: Tata Motors reported a strong consolidated performance in 1QFY25, with margins expanding ~110bp YoY to 14.4%, driven by JLR and strong India CV business margins even as India PV margin missed estimates. Margins were also supported by higher capitalization rate. For JLR segment, North America is improving and demand in the UK is recovering. The current order book stands at ~104k units vs. ~133k units in 4QFY24 and 150k units in 3QFY24. JLR is expected to face incremental production constraints in 2Q and 3Q due to floods at a key aluminum supplier. Management hopes to minimise the impact by sourcing from alternate suppliers. Overall, it has maintained stable margin guidance for FY25E and retains its FY26 EBIT margin guidance of 10%. Management is also expected CV demand to bounce back in 2HFY25 as structural demand drivers remain intact. Positive on Tata Motors given the decent set of 1QFY25 performance.

Stock in Action
Zomato ltd.: Zomato reported a robust set of numbers with revenues jumping 74% YoY and 18.1% QoQ, led by quick commerce and food delivery businesses. The quick commerce business delivered a 22.5% sequential GOV (gross order value) growth on the back of a 20.7% QoQ increase in orders and was aided by the addition of 113 stores. The GOV of the food delivery business grew by 9.8% QoQ with a jump in orders and an improvement in the AOV (average order value). The PAT, excluding other income, stood at Rs 17 crore, the first-ever positive bottom line without the impact of other income. The quick commerce business has scaled up well and touched a GOV of Rs 4,923 crore in Q1FY25, almost a Rs 20,000 crore annual run rate. This quarter's performance was driven by a significant jump in the number of orders and store additions. Quick commerce has seen a consistent rise in the daily order value per store from Rs 6.2 lakh in Q1FY24 to Rs 9.56 lakh in Q1FY25. The management plans to take the total store count to 2000 by 2026 , expanding to new cities and locking horns with offline retailers. Zomato’s management is now building an app that offers going-out adjacencies, including events & movies ticket bookings, shopping, and staycation. Zomato has displayed strong execution on profitability, while maintaining growth in all its businesses. Its aggressive expansion strategy in the quick commerce business continues to pay off each quarter. Positive on Zomato given the robust set of 1QFY25 performance.
V-Guard Industries Ltd.: V-Guard Industries Ltd has reported a revenue growth of 22% YoY in Q1 FY25, primarily due to the strong performance in the electronics and consumer durables segment. Company's geographical diversification strategy of increasing the penetration into the non-south market appears on track, with non-southern market growing significantly faster than the southern market. Gross margins benefited from benign input costs. However, gains at the operational level were partially offset by elevated advertisement expenses. The EBITDA margins saw an improvement of 200 bps to 10.6%. Electricals posted a moderate growth of 7% YoY in the first quarter. The soft performance was on account of a flattish growth in the wires & cables (W&C) segment due to de-stocking by channel partners on the back of volatility in input costs. Consumer durables recorded a growth of 26% YoY due to a strong rebound in fans, after several quarters of subdued performance. Sunflame posted a revenue contraction of 7% YoY in Q1. Despite its strong presence in the kitchen appliances market Sunflame, has encountered growth challenges due to subdued demand in the institutional business. Positive on V-Guard Industries as the company's revenue and earnings are growing at a consistent and steady pace.
