Stock in Action
Colgate Palmolive: Colgate Palmolive Q4FY24 results were in line with Street expectations. The quarter saw healthy growth in sales both sequentially and on a YoY basi led by toothpaste segment, which saw a YoY double-digit growth in FY24, led by the rural segment. The strategic initiatives undertaken by the new management to penetrate deeper is bearing fruit, while the trend to introduce more premium products and diversify beyond oral-care also aided growth. The company is leveraging Palmolive, an underserved equity with strong brand awareness. New variants were launched in the high-growth bodywash segment. Toothpaste is the most penetrated FMCG brand. However, the domestic use remains low compared to developed countries. Driving the same remains a key strategy, which could open up more growth opportunities in the segment across rural and urban markets. The company will continue to focus on more premium products with category development and innovation in toothbrush and devices, while building the personal care category with higher investment in brands. Positive on Colgate Palmolive given the rural market recovery and premium products to lead the earnings growth.
Polycab India: Polycab India reported 29% YoY growth in revenue during 4QFY24, led by public and private capital expenditures, and a sustained momentum in the real estate and infrastructure market. Polycab's largest segment Wires & Cable, 85% of the total revenue in Q4, achieved a revenue growth of 22% YoY at a record level of Rs 4,792 crore. With a volume growth of 30-40% in Q4 as well as FY24, the company gained 200-300 bps market share in FY24 and further strengthened its lead over the nearest competitor, ending the year with an estimated share of 25-26%. Polycab incurred a capex of Rs 860 crore in FY24. Riding on the underlying demand momentum, the company has chalked out aggressive expansion plans and aims to invest Rs 1,000-1,100 crore annually for the next 2-3 years. Under the Project Leap initiative, Polycab had earlier indicated a revenue guidance of Rs 20,000 crore by FY26. Given that Polycab has already reached a turnover of over Rs 18,000 crore, the company is likely to attain the targeted figure much before the stipulated timeline. Positive on Polycab India given the infrastructure upcycle in India.

This was largely on account of the industrial infra business, which witnessed a strong traction, led by higher order inflows and execution. The segment, which accounts for 47% of revenue, reported 17% YoY growth in revenues. Industrial products, witnessed a good 23% YoY growth in revenues. While the green solution business is at a nascent stage, it reported a strong 72% YoY growth in revenues. A strong overall performance, higher scale and easing cost pressure helped the company report good improvement in margins. Consolidated EBITDA margins improved by 123 basis points to 9.88%, largely on account of the improvement in industrial products business, which recorded a 110-basis point improvement in EBIT margins to 11.7%. In Q4FY24, the company’s order inflows grew at 2%, taking the overall orders to Rs 10,111 crore, up by 4%. Bharat Forge: Bharat Forge has reported strong financial results for the final quarter of FY24. The numbers were bolstered by strong growth in India and Europe businesses. The company achieved a YoY growth of 3% in total volume, primarily fuelled by a well-balanced product mix with a tilt towards high-value products. The emphasis on a diverse product mix contributed to a 13.1% improvement in realisation on a YoY basis. As supply-side challenges have eased, the company's management anticipates a continued surge in demand. This upswing is driven by several factors, including pent-up demand, a preference for personal mobility, and an influx of first-time buyers in the passenger car segment. In the CV segment, the company foresees an uptick in demand owing to increased economic activities, favourable freight rates, and improved profitability for fleet operators post the general election. After a hiatus, demand in international markets is picking up as is evident from Q4 FY24 numbers. The management indicated that there is an encouraging trend of global OEMs moving supplies to India from other geographies, including China and Europe. The company is seeing significant momentum in the Electric Vehicle (EV) segment, having secured orders from a global EV Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to supply aluminium castings. Positive on Bharat Forge given the strong set of numbers in Q4 FY24, driven by strong demand.

*M&M:* M&M 4QFY24 numbers came ahead of consensus estimates. Improved revenue and reduced raw material costs have led to better operating margins in this segment. The farm equipment segment, however, dragged down the performance of the company. Fuelled by strong demand for new products, the automotive segment registered a YoY volume increase of 13.8%. The company capitalised on higher volumes leading to an operating leverage, a favourable product mix, and a decrease in raw material prices. This led to an expansion of 171 bps in the YoY in EBIT margin. In Farm Equipment business, during the quarter, it lost its market share by 130 basis points compared with Q4 FY23, primarily due to the shift in the Navaratri festival. However, it has gained some of the lost market share in April 2024. The management indicated that Q1 is expected to be muted due to the election in Farm Equipment business. *Positive on M&M given the strong 4QFY24 performance and strong capex to drive the future growth.*
