Shipping Corporation of India: Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), the largest Indian shipping company, is well-poised to benefit from the Union ministry of shipping’s proposal of a joint venture between the company and a public sector oil manufacturing company for manufacturing large oil tankers. The move is in line with the Govt. of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ that is aimed at developing India’s manufacturing sector. The manufacturing of very large crude containers (VLCCs) or oil tankers will enable India to lower its dependency on foreign ships and insurance entities and boost energy security. Moreover, shipbuilding is a key feature of the government’s Maritime Indian Vision 2023, whereby this industry, with a unique feature, has nearly 65% of value addition coming from other technology and ancillary industries like steel, electronics, port infrastructure, etc.. Further, it is expected that in the upcoming Union Budget, the Govt. may propose the creation of a Maritime Development Fund, namely, Harit Nauka scheme, with an allocation of Rs. 15,000 crore to Rs. 20,000 crore. This will enable shipbuilders to avail long-term loans at a lower cost. Positive on Shipping Corp. given its leading market position and the government’s ambitious plans for the industry.
Zomato Ltd.: Zomato is in discussions with Paytm to acquire the latter’s movies, ticketing business in an attempt to boost its Going-out segment. Zomato’s incremental improvements in scale, efficiency and durability of the business have resulted in accelerated profitability and cash generation in the last 4 quarters. In Q4FY24, revenue from operations grew at 73.2% on a year-over-year basis owing to robust growth in both food delivery and quick commerce. PAT turned positive to Rs. 175 crore in the quarter from a loss of Rs. 188 crore recorded in the year-ago quarter. Notably, the company has built a large and resilient food delivery business with gross order value (GOV) growing at a CAGR of 30%. Management expects GOV to continue growing at more than 20% on a YoY basis, which is encouraging. Zomato’s Going-out business is comprised of two key segments – Dining-out and Zomato Live. The potential deal with Paytm is likely to help the company capitalize on the business’ large, untapped opportunity, given that it is still in the nascent stage. The GOV for this business grew 136% YoY in FY24 primarily driven by growth in the India Dining-out business. Positive on Zomato given solid future growth outlook of the company and a healthy balance sheet position.

Stock in Action
Jana Small Finance Bank Ltd.: Jana Small Finance Bank (JSFB) witnessed a solid FY24 with deposits growing 38.2% YoY to Rs. 22,571 crore. Despite challenging liquidity conditions, the CASA ratio stood at 19.7% in Q4FY24, up from 18.8% in the prior quarter. Advances rose 24.9% YoY to Rs. 24,746 crore in the last fiscal. Net Interest Margin (NIM) improved to 8.0% from 7.8% on YoY basis. PAT more than doubled to Rs. 670 crore. Notably, the bank’s proportion of secured assets rose to 60% from 56% in the prior year, highlighting its efforts of consistent de-risking and diversification. This has also aided an improvement in asset quality. In FY24, GNPA and NNPA declined to 2.0% and 0.5% from 3.6% and 2.4% in the prior year, respectively. Provision coverage ratio increased to 74% from 34% recorded in FY23. JSFB’s ROA rose to 2.4% from 1.1% and ROE increased to 26.9% from 16.7%, both on a YOY basis. CRAR remained healthy at 20.3%, with Tier I at 19.0%. Going forward, the bank expects to maintain deposits growth at approximately 20%, PAT growth between 30% and 40%, ROA around 1.8% - 2.0% and ROE in the 19% - 21% range. Positive on Jana Small Finance Bank given its strong FY24 performance, improvement in asset quality and adequate liquidity. Continued focus on accelerating secured loans book with the purpose of meeting customers’ needs and diversifying the lending book and reshaping the unsecured loans (microfinance loans) business will act as aiding factors.
Kajaria Ceramics: Kajaria Ceramics continues to demonstrate robust profitability and solid execution despite sluggish retail demand. The management is hopeful of demand revival and has chalked out a strategy to scale up the business over the next three years. Tile volumes for FY24 stood at 108.1 million square metres (MSM), up 6% YoY. The tile business, which contributes nearly 90% to its top line, reported a modest revenue uptick in FY24. The growth in the consolidated top line was largely driven by new business verticals owing to the expansion of the product portfolio and entry into new markets. Sanitary ware/faucets and plywoods reported an impressive revenue growth of 15% and 35%, respectively. As per the management, the uptick in the real estate cycle should aid the demand prospects of Kajaria Ceramics with a lag of 1-2 years. The company is targeting a top line of Rs 6,500 crore by FY27, led by increased revenue contribution from new business verticals. Margins on an annualised basis are anticipated to be in the range of 15-17%. For the tile business, the management has guided to an 11-13 percent YoY volume growth, which will be driven by a combination of in-house capacity expansion and contract manufacturing. From a fundamental standpoint, Kajaria has exhibited impressive operating metrics throughout the past decade. Positive on Kajaria Ceramics given its various strategic initiatives and the scale-up of new business verticals should accelerate revenue growth.

Tata Consultancy Services: The IT sector behemoth reported Q1FY25 revenue from operations of Rs. 62,613 crore, marking an increase of 5.4% YoY. Operating margin came in at 24.7%, up from 23.2% in the prior year quarter. Net profit grew 8.7% YoY to Rs 12,040 crore, but fell 3.1% sequentially. Net margin improved to 19.2% from 18.6% recorded in Q1FY24. In terms of growth by market, India witnessed a whopping 61.8 % YoY rise, primarily due to the BSNL deal. By vertical, Manufacturing and Energy, Resources and Utilities rose by 9.4% and 5.7%, respectively, on YoY basis. However, BFSI, Technology & Services and Communication & Media lagged. Going forward, the Indian IT sector is likely to pick up the pace in the second half of FY25 due to overall demand recovery. Moreover, Indian IT companies, which derive a significant share of their revenues from the U.S., stand to benefit from a likely rate cut announcement from the Federal Reserve towards the end of the year. Positive on TCS given its solid quarterly performance and an expected recovery in the IT sector in H2FY25.
Coal India: Coal India the largest coal-producing company in the world that caters to ~80% of India’s coal requirement, plans to fully meet domestic demand. With this goal in view, the company announced on July 12, 2024 that it will ease e-auction norms to encourage higher participation. Given the demand trend and India’s plan to reduce coal imports, Coal India has set a production target of 820 MTPA and 900 MT for FY25 and FY26, respectively, from the current 773 MTPA. The company’s total production in Q1FY25 increased by 8% YoY, with supplies to non-power sector, growing by 16% YoY. E-auction volumes account for only ~10% of company’s total volumes. Nonetheless, this segment contributes immensely to the top line, as its realisation is significantly higher than the FSA segment. Easing the e-auction norms will be more favourable for it’s customers than the company itself. However, bringing in more volumes through the e-auction route should help cater to the unserved domestic demand and whip up volumes for Coal India, starting Q2FY25. global benchmark thermal coal prices, which have an influence over pricing, remains sturdy and have increased by ~6% in the past two months. Positive on Coal India as the ease of e-auction norms to encourage higher participation.
