Cochin Shipyard Ltd.: Cochin Shipyard, a Miniratna public-sector undertaking primarily engaged in shipbuilding and ship repair, reported strong 1QFY25 numbers. Revenue from operations rose 62.1% YoY to Rs. 771.47crore. EBITDA of Rs. 177.3 crore more than doubled from the year ago quarter. The EBITDA margin was 23%, up from 16.5% reported in the prior year quarter. PAT increased a whopping 76.67% YoY to Rs. 174.23 crore. The company is renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure, skilled workforce and commitment to delivering high quality vessels to clients worldwide. Its expertise extends beyond shipbuilding and ship repair, offering services such as offshore vessel construction, refits and conversions, marine engineering, strategic and advanced solutions in the maritime space etc., making it a one stop hub where the world comes for ships. Various initiatives announced by the government of India to support the country’s shipping companies in a move to make the country a global leader in the maritime sector bodes well. Also, Cochin Shipyard’s order pipeline remains robust, which is likely to help sustain revenue growth in the forthcoming period and aid growth. Positive on Cochin Shipyard given a good set of 1QFY25 numbers, robust order book position and the government’s ambitious plans for the industry.

Divis Laboratories ltd: Divis Laboratories posted a mixed set of results for Q1FY25. While the custom synthesis business was strong, it was offset by pricing erosion in the generic API segment. Among the key positive surprises of the quarter was the enhanced value proposition for the GLP 1 (glucagon-like peptide 1) opportunity. Secondly, the growth in contrast media is expected to pick up in the coming quarters. It has guided for a ramp-up in volumes for iodine-based compounds used for CT scans. Further, the Gadolinium-based contrast media products meant for MRI scans are in phase 3 and would be a key aspect to watch. The sales growth of 19% was chiefly contributed by the custom synthesis business, which grew by 46% YoY. The generic business grew by 1.5% only due to pricing erosion, offsetting the double-digit volume growth. The share of exports stood at 86%, of which sales to Europe and the US remained at 70% of sales. Gross margins weakened, compared to last year, but EBITDA margins improved due to moderation in other expenses. While pricing erosion remains a challenge for generic APIs, new opportunities for generic molecules would unfold in FY26. Medium-term growth would be on account of seven molecules that are going off-patent. Positive on Divis Laboratories given the traction in custom synthesis business.
