*Stock in Action*
*Bharat Dynamics:* The government, aiming at indigenous manufacturing and self-sufficiency, has been bolstering the defence sector through policy reforms and an annual increase in defence capital expenditure. Bharat Dynamics, a leading ammunition and missile manufacturer, has been beneficiary of thrust of government on defence sector. The company also posted weak results in Q1FY25, which is a seasonally weak quarter. However, company's focus on efficient implementation and enhanced profitability has brought growing orders, leading to elevated cash flows and earnings. With a robust order book, revenue visibility remains promising and as the scale continues to rise, profitability is expected to follow suit. Company's success is underscored by its substantial order book, totaling Rs 20,831 crore, as of June 2024. This backlog, equivalent to approximately 8.7x the FY24 revenue, serves as a robust platform for future expansion. The first quarter has been impacted by the ongoing geopolitical tensions in Europe and the Middle East. However, performance is likely to improve from Q2FY25 onwards. The trend of securing new orders was pretty robust, with company is securing approximately Rs 1,500 crore in Q1FY25, compared to Rs 466 crore in Q1FY24, further strengthening its market position. Additionally, it maintains a strong bid pipeline of Rs 20,000 crore, both domestically and internationally. Looking ahead, company is well-positioned to capitalise on the increasing capital outlay for indigenous defence platforms, particularly in areas such as missiles, torpedoes, and counter-measure dispensing systems. *Positive on Bharat Dynamics given its substantial order backlog and promising growth prospects.*
*IEX.:* Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) is India’s premier energy marketplace, providing a nationwide automated trading platform for the physical delivery of electricity, renewables, and certificates. More recently, IEX has pioneered cross border electricity trade expanding its power market beyond India in an endeavour to create an integrated South Asian Power Market. As the IEX Power Market Update, the company achieved the highest ever total volume (including certificates) of 13,250 MU in July 2024, marking a ~56% YoY increase. The electricity volume at 10,093 MU, increased 29% YoY. Green electricity volume during the month at 1 BU, grew 259% YoY. According to government data published in July 2024, the country's energy consumption reached 145.4 BUs, representing ~4% increase year-on-year. IEX delivered a strong performance in 1QFY25. Revenue from operations rose 1.9% QoQ and 18.8% YoY to Rs. 123.56 crore. EBITDA of Rs. 130.25 crore was up 24.19% YOY.PAT soared 27.2% YoY to Rs. 96.44 crore. Going forward, amidst a robust global environment for renewable energy growth and the government's continued focus on the sector, the company is likely to benefit over the long term. The government aims to increase share of non-fossil fuel in India's electricity generation capacity to 50% by 2030. *Positive on IEX given its healthy quarterly performance and efforts to tap growth opportunities in the Indian energy sector.*

*NLC India Ltd.:* NLC India, a Navratna Government of India Enterprise, is the nodal agency for lignite mining in India and operates 3 opencast Lignite Mines of total installed capacity 28 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) at Neyveli, one opencast Lignite Mine at Barsingsar in Rajasthan with an installed capacity of 2.10 MTPA and an open cast coal mine at Talabira in Odisha with an installed capacity of 20 MTPA. The company has also forayed into the renewable energy sector. Presently, it is operating 1380 MW of Solar Power Plants in various Districts of Tamil Nadu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and 51 MW Wind Power Plant in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. NLC India is the first CPSE to cross 1 GW capacity in Solar Power Generation in the country. The company is aiming to achieve a total renewable energy capacity of 6031MW by 2030. It targets to become a 17,171 MW company by 2030 and is undertaking various expansion activities to reach this goal. In 1QFY25, NLC India recorded 22.17% YoY growth in lignite production to 61.67 LT and 35.27% YoY growth in coal production to 28.46 LT. Gross Power Generation increased to 6,133.67 MU, up 13.48% YoY. The company reported a 1.8% YoY growth in revenue from operations to Rs. 3,376 crore in the first quarter. EBITDA of Rs.1,444.38 crore registered YoY growth of 10.61%. PAT of Rs. 566.69 crore rose 37% YoY. *Positive on NLC India given it is a key player in lignite mining and efforts to tap growth opportunities in the renewable energy sector.*
*LIC Housing Finance:* LIC Housing Finance is looking to diversify its product mix by increasing the share of non-housing loans with a higher exposure to self-employed customers. As per the management, this is the formula to balance growth and margins. A potential rate cut by the US Fed in September and the lowering of inflation could trigger a shallow rate cut by the RBI in H2 FY25. This could benefit LIC Housing Finance, given its higher exposure to floating rate borrowings. Its portfolio growth was below expectations in a seasonally weak quarter with higher repayments. Also, unfavourable weather conditions and extended elections partly impacted growth. However, disbursements saw a healthy sequential uptick and the trend is expected to continue. The project loan segment saw solid growth and will remain a key focus area. This coupled with healthy growth in individual home loans will support the double-digit loan growth guidance in FY25. NIMs contracted due to a higher one-time recovery of interests from NPA accounts. The share of higher-yield/non-housing loans is expected to gradually increase to 20%, going forward. This, coupled with a bigger focus on the self-employed book, will boost margins. A change in the loan disbursement mix and the customer mix will aid NIMs, which is guided to remain in the 2.7-2.9% range, going forward. Despite below-normal collection efficiency due to adverse weather conditions and extended elections, the gross NPA ratio was stable at 3.3%. *Positive on LIC Housing Finance given the pick-up in loan growth, steady margins, lower credit costs, and controlled costs.*

Stock in Action
Balrampur Chini Mills: Balrampur Chini Mills is one of India's largest sugar producers, with a diversified portfolio that includes sugar, ethanol, and power co-generation. The company operates several sugar mills and distilleries, leveraging its scale and integrated operations to optimize production and cost efficiencies. Balrampur Chini Mills also focuses on sustainability and expanding its renewable energy capacity. Revenue for Q1 stood at INR 1422 crores showing a 2.3% growth Y-o-Y and a 0.8% degrowth Q-o-Q. EBITDA for Q1 closed at INR 166 crores, observing a steep fall of 51.2% Q-o-Q and 1.8% increase on Y-o-Y basis. During the quarter, the sugarcane crushing for the company ended early, leading to a decline in sugar production. This also affected it’s ethanol production. The reduction in crushing days further contributed to under-absorption of fixed overhead expenditure. However, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has made electricity for irrigation free in the month of March this year, where all the sugar producing plants of the company are located. The benefit of this will be seen during the upcoming sugarcane crushing season. The rainfall pattern is expected to be much better this year, contributing to overall productivity of the crop. The company has worked hard on infectious disease control for sugarcane crops which will help in picking up the efficiency of crop production. On 30th August 2024, the government also introduced a new policy which lifts the previous cap on using sugar for ethanol production. Now, in addition to cane juice and syrup, mills can also use B-Heavy and C-Heavy molasses to produce ethanol. Positive on Balrampur Chini Mills as the company can deliver good levels of growth in the upcoming quarters.

EBITDA for the comapny was INR 115 crores, with a fall of 32.7% Q-o-Q basis and a growth of 8.5% Y-o-Y basis. Hospitality segment is a segment which is highly seasonal, due to which a year on year comparison is better to understand the growth of the company. During the quarter, the company signed 3 new management and franchise contracts, which added 187 rooms to pipeline and operationalised 4 hotels, which added 331 rooms. As of 30th June 2024, the inventory for the group stands at 107 operational hotels with 10,125 rooms, and the pipeline comprises an additional 4,000 rooms. On 28th August 2024, the company announced the signing of yet another new property in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. He also mentioned that TVS Motor expects the scooter segment to grow and account for around 40% of the overall two-wheeler sales. He further added that TVS Motor is well prepared to deliver on all technologies including EVs, CNG, Hydrogen as per market demand. The company plans to launch a new EV platform and a three-wheeler vehicle in the second quarter. In 1QFY25, TVS Motor’s revenue from operations grew 2.5% QoQ and 16% YoY to Rs. 8,375.59 crore driven by healthy sales growth. EBITDA of Rs. 960.17 crores was the highest ever and rose 3.7% QoQ and 25.7% YoY . PAT increased 18.9% QoQ and 23.4% to Rs. 577.32 crore in the quarter. Krsnaa Diagnostics: Krsnaa Diagnostics is ramping up its projects well and continues to deliver healthy margins. A foray into the B2C (business-to-consumer) segment will widen its addressable market, leading to more opportunities in the underpenetrated healthcare space. The Assam and Odisha projects, which commenced in Q3FY24 and Q2FY24, respectively, are showing promising demand traction. In Q1FY25, Krsnaa’s revenue grew by 22% YoY, and its EBITDA was up by 39% YoY, with a 26% margin, compared to 22.8% in the corresponding quarter last year. This improvement was primarily led by the ramp-up of newly established centers (less than 3 years old). In Q1FY25, Krsnaa operationalised 20 new CT scan centres and 375 pathology collection centres and is working towards stabilising the operations. It plans to install 7 more CT machines and 5 MRI machines by the end of FY25. FY25 is thus likely to see more radiology projects, and given the efficient ramp-up of the newly executed projects, the ongoing revenue growth trajectory should continue into the next fiscal year as well. Krsnaa is looking to scale up its presence in the B2C segment. It has started with home collections and has set up a private pathology lab in Mumbai, which would act as the central hub for nearby regions. Positive on Krsnaa Diagnostics given the ramp-up of new projects which would support the future revenue growth.
