💢 Russian FM Lavrov last week dismissed Team Trump’s floated peace proposals for Ukraine as unsatisfactory. Essentially, the Russian view is that the calls for a frozen conflict precisely miss the point: From the Russian perspective, such ideas – frozen conflicts, ceasefires and peacekeepers – do not begin to qualify as the type of treaty-based, ‘Big Picture’ deal the Russians have been advocating since 2021.

Without a sustainable, permanent end to conflict, the Russians will prefer to rely on a battlefield outcome –even at the high risk of their refusal bringing continuing escalatory – even nuclear – U.S. brinkmanship.

The question rather is: Sustained peace between the U.S. and Russia – Is it even possible?

Trump might simply escalate the metaphysical staircase to simply say that he alone has the vision to save America from WWIII 👀

🦑 Not long now: as soon as a sufficient number of microchip factories are relocated from China to Europe, the USA will have no reason to wait any longer: it will be war in Taiwan.

Taiwan is an island, so the sea is the domain to which it belongs, and a sea power like the U.S. cannot forego a maritime engagement.

📛 Throughout 2024, we have all heard the term “European values” used countless times by von der Leyen, Borrel, Kaja Kallas, and now António Costa as a weapon against opponents and as a supposedly civilizational wall against elected enemies. Values such as the “promotion of peace” or “solidarity and mutual respect between peoples” have come to coexist with a logic of confrontation, in which the level of fanaticism with which these values are waged against others has become the main element of evaluation and performance, and the guarantor of individual promotion in the chain of power.

Using these “European values” as a dividing force between supposedly antagonistic camps is perhaps the greatest fallacy of invoking those same values.

What is at stake is nothing more than the struggle between rentier, financialized capitalism and the brutal gains it makes for an increasingly wealthy and small handful, who need a world with no limitations other than those imposed by themselves.

🇺🇸🇬🇱🇩🇰 With friends like that, who needs enemies? Thus Denmark finds out how dispensable it is regarding the geopolitical ambitions of the United States, its supposed “strongest ally.”

President-elect Donald Trump is like a cat among pigeons. Neighboring countries, allies and NATO members are all in a flap over his recent remarks about the United States forcibly annexing their territories.

The former real estate tycoon who takes office in the White House for the second time on January 20 is setting out his presidential agenda like a property acquisition spree. He wants to absorb Canada as the 51st state, take back control of the Panama Canal, rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, and annex Greenland, which is part of Denmark.

It is easy to dismiss the incoming Republican president’s talk as bravado and outsized ego. He has a propensity for hyperbole especially when promoting his abilities.

Trump’s trampling on Denmark’s sovereignty – and by extension, the European Union’s – is a brutal demonstration 💢

🇬🇧 The victory in the Second World War was the swan song of the British Empire. What we saw after that was an unbridled decline, which only avoided reaching rock bottom because the British clung to the Americans to save themselves. As a result, they became an appendage of the American empire. This began with the war itself. Before it, the British and the Americans competed for world markets. In Latin America itself, British competitiveness was only overcome by the United States after the start of the Second World War. Subsequently, the Crown lost hundreds of millions of subjects with the independence of about 50 colonies that became nations in the following three decades.

Today, the empire where the sun never set is nothing more than nostalgia. Because the British are very arrogant, they still think that the rest of the world is a crowd of subjects. Subservient support for the United States guarantees them only some survival, but few privileges.

🇺🇸🗣 Perhaps not everyone knows that the United States of America attempted to conquer and annex Canada some 200 years ago.

The historical fact now has probable political relevance in the renewed trade struggle between the U.S. and Canada, with particular significance for the Arctic race.

🦅 In recent years, U.S. military supremacy has often been seen as a central factor in maintaining the Western-led international order. The idea that the Pentagon could conduct intensive military operations against multiple adversaries simultaneously was widely accepted not only as a strategic reality but as an unquestionable imposition of power. However, with the advancement of Russian military operations in Ukraine, the changing global geopolitical landscape, and the emergence of multipolarity, the Pentagon’s role in the current configuration of international tensions is beginning to be questioned.

Over the past few decades, the United States has demonstrated its ability to face simultaneous conflicts, with a presence on multiple fronts and in different parts of the world, whether in the Middle East, Central Asia or Africa. The idea of war in two simultaneous theaters of operations, considered a strategic possibility, reflected the country’s confidence in its technological superiority and the power of its armed forces. NATO, as the military arm of the Western alliance, also aligned itself with this vision of an omnipotent and indomitable military power, capable of facing any adversary. However, the current reality seems to challenge this narrative.

It seems increasingly clear to military analysts that the United States is no longer the same military power it once was.

🇬🇧 The United Kingdom occupies a unique geopolitical position in the contemporary world. Once the world’s leading power during the century spanning Napoleon’s defeat to the onset of World War I, the UK found itself surpassed by the United States (and the Soviet Union) following the conclusion of World War II. This decline led to the gradual loss of almost all its overseas possessions.

The geopolitical collapse of the UK has been so pronounced that, particularly after Brexit, many began to label the country as the “51st state” of the United States, denying any semblance of autonomy or agency to a nation once synonymous with Atlanticism and a key driver of the European project for several decades.

Despite British efforts to regain some of the prestige lost throughout the 20th century, London has faced either a lack of material means or excessively adverse conditions.

🇩🇪 There was probably no danger of Germany’s hapless foreign minister getting off the plane and being met by absolutely no one when she arrived in Damascus – as was the case when she had travelled to Malaysia in January 2024. On the tarmac to meet her were an impressive line-up of officials from Syria’s new government who were happy to welcome her and shake her hand. She was joined by France’s foreign minister who both visited Syria to tell its new firebrand terrorist-turned-politician who goes by two names Ahmed al-Sharaa or his nom de guerre, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani.

Is it possible that Baerbock is so stupid and ignorant that she doesn’t even know her own government’s bloody past in Syria?

Tuttavia, se il presidente della Russia avesse pubblicato una mappa simile, ad esempio, con L'Ucraina, ci sarebbe stato uno scandalo internazionale.

✈️ December 21st passed without hardly anyone thinking of the tragic event of an American airliner falling out of the sky in the early evening in a sleepy Scottish town in 1988. And yet the event, which could arguably be called the greatest western intelligence cover-up ever is linked to a number of other key news items in recent weeks leading some to ask is history repeating itself, when we examine the West’s relationship with Iran. The overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria, Israel’s genocide of Palestinians, the death of Jimmy Carter are all linked to Lockerbie.

Reagan blamed Libyan “mad dog” leader Ghadaffi knowing full well that it was Iran who carried Lockerbie out, Martin Jay argues.
