Ibn Taymiyyah: Learning the Arabic Language is an Obligatory Duty
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H) - رحمه الله - said,
"The Arabic language itself is from the Religion and knowing it is an obligatory duty because understanding the Book and the Sunnah is an obligation and they cannot be understood, except with the Arabic language. That without which an obligation cannot be completed is itself an obligation."

Shaykh Rabi' Ibn Hadi al-Madkhali on the Importance of Studying Akhlaq
The 'Allamah Rabi' Ibn Hadi al-Madkhali (d.1447H) - رحمه الله - said,
"Read firstly the books of moral character and manners. Read them in abundance. By Allah, Akhlaq al-'Ulama by al-Khatib al-Baghdadi (d.463H) and Akhlaq al-'Ulama by al-Ajurri (d.360H) and Akhlaq Halamah al-Qur'an by him as well; read them and learn moral character from them. From the Sunnah, learn the moral character of the Messenger (عليه الصلاة و السلام); this is something tremendous. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I was only sent to complete noble manners." The Messenger (ﷺ) was sent to complete noble manners, so do not neglect moral character O brothers! If you neglect moral character, you will waste your da'wah (call)."

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih al-'Uthaymin (d.1421H): A Good Life is Not Freedom from the Harms of Poverty, Disease and Distress
Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih al-'Uthaymin (رحمه الله) said,
"A good life is not what some people understand: freedom from the harms of poverty, disease and distress. No, rather a good life is that a person has a good heart, a relaxed and open chest and he is content with the Divine Decree and Pre-Ordainment of Allah. If some prosperity comes to him, he is grateful to Allah, so it is good for him. If some adversity befalls him, he is patient, so it is good for him. This is the good life and it is the peace of the heart.
As for an abundance of wealth and a healthy body, then they can be a source of hardship and fatigue for a person."

The Strength of True and Sincere Iman
The Former Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 'Abd al-'Aziz Ibn 'Abdullah Al al-Shaykh (d.1447H) - رحمه الله - said,
"The people of pure and sincere Tawhid are people of strength in the heart and steadfastness on the positions and trust and reliance in Allah. Allah's care and concern surrounds them and He protects them. So with the strength of their true and sincere iman (faith and belief in Allah), no deficiency or doubt befalls it."

Comprehensive Advice for the Muslim Living in these Times
Al-'Allamah Ahmad Ibn Yahya al-Najmi (d.1429H) - رحمه الله - was asked:
[Q]: What do you advise the Muslim with in these days of ours?
[A]: I advise them to:
1. Live upon al-Tawhid (singling out Allah with worship);
2. And the correct 'aqidah (belief, creed);
3. To be concerned with fulfilling the compulsory duties and obligations;
4. To remain distant from disobedience and unlawful matters;
5. Accompanying good companions and avoiding evil ones;
6. Following the Sunan and avoiding the innovations (bida');
7. Beware of fitan (trials, tribulations), since they are many in these times.
8. I advise him to stick to his home and cry over his sins, as the Prophet (ﷺ) said to one of his Companions, "Stick to your home and cry over your sins."
[Sahih: Related by al-Tirmidhi (no. 2406). It was authenticated by al-Albani in Sahih al-Targhib (no. 3331).]
And the success and guidance is with Allah.

Imam Abu Ya'la (d.458H) - رحمه الله - said,
"May Allah have mercy on the servant who speaks with the truth, follows the narrations, holds fast to the Sunnah and takes the righteous people as an example."

Beware the Agents of Iblis!
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (d.751H) - رحمه الله - said,
"The agents of Iblis in the earth are those who hinder the people from seeking knowledge and understanding (fiqh) of the Religion. Those individuals are more harmful to them than the devils amongst the Jinn, because they interfere between the hearts and the guidance and way of Allah."

Abu Bakr Muhammad Ibn al-Husayn al-Ajurri (d.360H)- رحمه الله - wrote,
"What is your view - may Allah have mercy upon you - about a path upon which are many dangers and the people are in need of traversing it during the darkness of night. If there were no light, the people would be in a state of confusion. Allah has designated for them lamps to illuminate the path so that they can cross it in peace and safety. Then there come generations of people who must traverse it, when they start to do so, the lamps are extinguished, so they remain in darkness, so what do you think of their condition? This is the example of the the scholars amongst the common folk. Many of the people do not know how to fulfill the obligations, nor how to avoid the unlawful matters, nor how to worship Allah correctly, except due to the presence of the scholars. So when the scholars die, the people are left in confusion and knowledge is lost due to their deaths and ignorance prevails."

Imam al-Shatibi (d.790H) - رحمه الله - said,
"When the innovations and oppositions became abundant and the people agreed with them, the ignorant person would say: If this was evil, the people wouldn't be doing it!"
