"Though the structural comparison between tantra and theurgy should not be pressed too far, the similarities between the two are striking. Tantra, like theurgy, may be defined as that which provides continuity or unfolding of divine gnosis (Eliade, Yoga), and it was introduced to India in the fourth century C.E. with the argument that ritual practice was the only mode of worship capable of saving man in this age. Tantra incorporated aboriginal Indian elements as well as alien features, which led Eliade to suggest that it may have been introduced to India from "the great Western mysteriosophic current". According to Eliade, the Buddhist tantras are divided into four classes which, like theurgy, are related "to the principal human types and temperaments". As in Neoplatonic theurgy, these classes are graded and proceed from the more material and overt forms of ritual practices/persons, to the more spiritual and interior."

*NEW* Mesolithic Western Hunter-Gatherer reconstruction: Rødhals Man.

'A skull from Rødhals at Sejerø, indicating genetic continuity from the Mesolithic into the Neolithic. Corrected for the marine reservoir effect, this individual is radiocarbon dated to c. 3750 BC, i.e. clearly after the neolithisation of the region. Nonetheless the robust cranium, the pronounced brow ridges, and the marine 13C level (-12.2%) are typical features of the Mesolithic. In the later parts of the neolithic people were generally more gracile in appearance and subsisted primarily on terrestrial food.'

Chris Fern describes the art depicted on a sword pommel found in Staffordshire but manufactured on the continent in the 6th century. The face flanked by legs (of a raven?) appears to be that of Woden. The boars were intended to give strength to the sword and the warrior who wielded it.

In my review of the Northman I call it the best film of 2022, which misleadingly implies I saw every film that came out this year. I did not, nor do I wish to. I expect most are unwatchable anyway. Of the films that came out in 2022 that were worth a watch, it was the best, the others were:

Crimes of the future - interesting critique of transhumanism 8/10
Licorice pizza - twee and self indulgent look at Jewish teens in 70's california 5/10
Prey - utter tripe predator reboot about a Mary-Sioux 3/10
Hermit of Treig - doc about an old man living off grid in the Highlands 7/10
Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe - rather tired nostalgic reboot with a couple of good jokes 7/10
What Is a Woman? - doc about gender politics 7/10

Before the year is up I may also go to see the Banshees of Inisheirin which is an Irish film that seems inoffensive enough to tolerate

Many years back, before I knew about Yamnaya and steppe DNA, I concluded the steppe hypothesis for PIE was the best theory based on the simple fact that PIE vocabulary includes words for a very southern creature; the tortoise, and a very northern one; the beaver. These maps only show current range so I expect the beavers had a bigger range in the Neolithic, but as you can see the overlap is limited to the Ukrainian black sea coast and parts of North Caspian coast. Obviously this alone is flimsy evidence, but all the other evidence accumulated since then just confirms this method worked too.

At the end of the day Greeks were primarily descended from the core population that defines Europeans; EEF. They also had steppe ancestry. They spoke a European language and lived in Europe. Saying they weren't European is a cope that someone would only indulge for emotional reasons

This is bullshit, of course.

Firstly, we have a grand total of ONE (1) sample from Classical Greece, I17962 from Kastrouli (published in this study). So we can't really say what the entire Classical Greek population was like.

Secondly, that individual is most similar to modern Greeks and Italians, like all of the other ancient Greek samples available to date. You can see where modern Greeks and Italians genetically cluster on the fourth image (Greeks are the turquoise crosses).

Edit: I forgot we had more samples from a study on a Greek colony in Sicily. Ancient Greeks were definitely not Middle Eastern, see this post: /channel/thuletide/3946

NEW GARMENTS: The ALU ODIN range features a design from the Funen bracteate, slightly modified to resemble other similar bracteates which feature Odin. The runes on the bracteate are magical and invoke Odin as "houaz" which is Odin as the "High" and there is also the ALU magical inscription.
