Starting with the hunter gatherers, then the first farmers of the Neolithic who were replaced by Bronze Age invaders from Eastern Europe who were themselves challenged by a new culture of Celtic speakers in the Iron Age, the story ends with the Viking raiders and merchants who arrived in medieval times. The timeline is revealed through the latest archaeological and genetic evidence from this region and beyond.

Frēa's name is often translated as Lord, however in a fascinating article in Spellstów (Vol 5 no.4) Brúnwulf discusses Elmeviks work on the origin of Frēa and explores the idea that his name could be rooted in *fraiwijaz (fertile) from *fraiwą (seed).

The phallic symbolism we associate with Frēa clearly shows him to be a fertility god. Brúnwulf continues to explore the idea through Frēa's other name Ing or Ingvi suggesting the root of these names is *néƙus meaning 'dead', that Frēa's death is a ritual where he is buried every year like the seed.

Britain was not effected genetically by Rome, but was massively effected by the Anglo-Saxons. Iberia was massively effected by the Roman occupation, but the Goths, whose DNA has been confirmed to have been Germanic within Iberia, left little impact on the Iberian peoples

September, the ninth and sacred month was once called Hāliġmōnaþ or Hāliȝmōnaþ in OE – the Holy Month. Bede described the month as saying ‘Halegh-monath is a month of sacredness’. The OE poem Menologium seu Calendarium Poeticum described the month as a ‘holy month, because our ancestors, when they were heathen, sacrificed to their idols in that month’.

The next full moon will be 3.34am on the 18th September (so the night of the 17th). This will be a blot or holy-moon, also called a harvest or wood-moon.

On Offering Alcohol to Óðinn

Jonas of Bobbio records that the missionary, Columbanus, while travelling to Brigantia (Bregenz, Austria), noticed men about to drink beer in honour of Wodan and that the beer used as their primary sacrifice:

'For in that vicinity are nations of the Swabians. While he remains with them and travels about among the inhabitants of that place, he learns of their intention to perform a profane sacrifice and a large vessel, which they commonly call a 'cupa' (barrel), which held about twenty modia (measures of corn) was set up in the middle filled with beer. Thereat the man of god approached and asked what they meant to do with that. They said that they meant to sacrifice to a god of theirs, by name Wodan, whom others call Mercurius...'

This form of offering is known as blótdrykkr (sacrificial drinking) in the form of a toast and dreypa (libation) in Old Norse.

In Heimskringla, it is noted that during festivals, Óðinn was the first god offered to along with Njǫrðr and Freyr:

'...and first Óðinn's horn was emptied for victory and power to his king; thereafter, Njǫrðr and Freyr's horns for peace and a good season.'

It is important to worship Óðinn who oversees various facets of human existence such as crop growth, fair wind, luck, good fortune and wisdom to name a few examples. As noted by Jonas of Bobbio, the Swabians offered alcohol to Óðinn as a primary form of worship. Worship of Óðinn today should be influenced by historical praxis.

Volker Heyd here expressed the same thing I have been saying, which is that the Rhine is as plausible an origin area for the Bell Beaker culture as the Tagus is. Portugal is favoured because of c14 dates which overlap with those for Holland/Switzerland and are contested anyway.

Heyd also argues that the BBC could be spread with a solar religion and that this could be Indo-European with Corded Ware and even Yamnaya precedents. This is what I believe.
