Fun fact: most vikings had short hair and Amleth was supposed to have a typical viking bowl cut in The Northman (2022) but they had to change it because audiences think it looks silly.
Here are two more authentic styles he could have had.
The motif of the snake dancer from the Sievern bracteate has parallels on other bracteates.
1. Sievern
2. Nebenstedt
3. Sjöhagen·B
The snakes have bird like heads so they may simultaneously represent the ravens of Woden, and also the serpents of Hell.

NEW EPISODE — Radio North Sea International — Barrows: The Monument of our People
https://hearthfireradio.com/podcast/barrows-the-monument-of-our-people/
The Indo-European barrow aka kurgan aka burial mound is a funerary monument tradition that lasted about 6000 years and spread from Eastern Europe as far as Chine to the East, the Atlantic to the West and Siberia to the North. This monument is not only the proof of our greatness but is also the sacred centre of the Heathen religion.
Vada burial mounds date to the iron age. I am wearing clothes from Legio Gloria in this photo

Bede tells us that the second moon of the Anglo-Saxon heathen year was called Solmōnaþ meaning “Sun month”. This marks the returning power of the sun goddess known in English as Sunne and in Norse as Sól and explains the Old English word for Lent, Lencten which means “lengthening” in reference to the lengthening of the days at this time of year.
Bede wrote that Sol month was the month of flat cakes which the heathen English gave in offering to their gods - presumably to Sunne specifically. These round sun cakes became the English Christian tradition of pancake day celebrated at the start of Lent.
There is no reason to associate Óðinn with sexual deviations or a third gender. His ecstatic element relates only to war and not sexual ecstasy and the shamanic influence on the cult of Odin was limited only to the very northern most regin of the Germanic world. The widespread claim that Odin is queer because he dressed as a woman in order to deceive and then rape a woman makes no sense. Jens Peter-Schodt tackles such misinformation in this excellent essay:
"The problem I want to deal with is the interpretation of Óðinn as some kind of 'third gender' representative, or as some kind of 'queer figure'
As far as I can see both Solli and Price, and all other scholars who see Óðinn as having a dual sexuality, have not done sufficient textual analysis, and even if this cannot be done in all details here either, I should like to point to some of the weaknesses in this viewpoint, because it is rather important for the way we perceive Wotan/Óðinn as a Germanic and a Scandinavian god."

Most of you trip on on this because you fall for the meme of Frey being a god of crops. Adam also says that Frey (fricco) is prayed to at weddings, and is a god of prosperity and is depicted with an erect cock.
Those three things combined (sex, marriage and increasing prosperity) made Victorian anthropologists call him a "fertility god" - and people like Frazer had this obsession with "fertility gods" and "vegetation gods" and somehow Frey got lumped up with that in popular theories - even though the same source literally says Thor is the one they pray to for good harvests, not Frey!
Then when you add in all the stuff about Yngvi, who is evidently the same as Freyr, and there is NOTHING about crops and fertility and his main attribute was a SWORD and he was worshipped not in fields but at barrows...you start to get a picture of who this god really is.
NEW EPISODE — Radio North Sea International — Episode 20: Heathen Attitudes to Suicide
https://www.hearthfireradio.com/watch?v=QnyUcidx
Suicide is a painful and difficult topic for anyone who has been affected by it. In episode 20, Tom relates his own experiences with suicide and lists all the ancient and medieval sources that reveal the Heathen attitude toward killing oneself. The main type of acceptable Heathen suicide is “Honour suicide” in which someone seeks to escape the stain of dishonour in life, by killing themself. This is recorded in sources 1300 years apart and across the Germanic world. End music: Popol vuh - Morgengruß

This 42cm tall Iron Age figure was found in a bog in Rude Eskilstrup, Denmark. It features a prominent moustache, and highly similar neck torc and robe to the Lejre Odin figure, and likely would’ve been seated upon a similar throne. The left eye even appears larger. ᚬ

I got this new Legio Gloria woollen jumper on Friday and have received unsolicited compliments for it everywhere since! In the woods or the pub, people felt the need to say what a fetching knit it is. It’s extremely warm and very soft. Highly recommended garment.
