I remember being blown away by this amazing statue of The Lur blowers, when I saw it in Copenhagen.

It depicts two men of the Nordic Bronze age playing lurs, the ritual instrument used at that time and which are usually found in pairs.

Imagine if there was a huge statue of a Bronze age Briton in the centre of London!

"This isn't a fixed static religon, it lives and breathes and adapts."

While this kind of statement is technically correct - Pagans should not seek to revive and restore religious practice as it was exactly at one specific period in history - I seem most often to see this sentiment employed as a means of defending the worst kinds of ignorance and shoddy research. When someone has misinterpreted a text, distorted a myth, corrupted an invocation or depicted a god in an inappropriate manner, they will often fall back on this line of defence as though their failure to learn the truth were some kind of natural adaptation to the circumstances of modern practice. The same type of person is very prone to quoting Austrian Jewish composer Gustav Mahler in regards to the "worship of ashes" for exactly the same reason.

The egg heads have figured out that psychedelics don't stop people from having natural affiliations for their cultural , ethnic, and religious groups and so they are wringing their hands anxiously in the form of this terrible paper. The fact that entheogens have been assimilated into the rituals of intensely tribalistic, traditional, authoritarian and patriarchal peoples (pretty much all humans) since time immemorial should have been a clue!

Heorot by John Howe

The magnificent mead hall of king Hrothgar. The name Heorot (meaning Hart) is rooted in the word *herutaz meaning deer or stag. Hart was also spelt Hert - preserved in the name of my home county of Hertfordshire.

Tolkien simply used the name Meduseld for Theoden's mead hall - the name simply meaning mead hall in OE.

On the Aesir

Norse gods such as Odin, Thor & Frigg are referred to as the ‘aesir,' which has its roots in the Proto-Indo-European word for spirit/life force: h₂énsus.

This is also the root of Sanskrit ‘asura’, which in early Vedic texts means ‘divine’ or ‘mighty’ & is used to describe Indra, for example.

In Post-Vedic texts however the word 'asura' receives a bad connotation by referring to demons and evil creatures.

Sredny Stog - the Real Proto-Indo-Europeans

Likely the ancestors of both Yamnaya and Corded Ware (and by extension also Bell Beaker folk)

Culture begins about 4500 BC in Ukraine but genetic profile emerged even earlier.

Genetically the same race as Yamnaya and Corded ware (Western Steppe Herder) and with EEF admixture from Cucuteni Trypillia people.

Genetic and cultural exchange with semi-urbanised Cucuteni Trypillia people to their West. A Sredny Stog woman has been found in a Trypilian site who was likely “married out” in typical Indo-European traditon.

Kept horses, but maybe didn’t ride them.

Used corded pottery just like Yamnaya and CWC.

Buried dead sprinkled with ochre, in pits, on their backs with legs raised just like Yamnaya and CWC.

Didn’t use barrows like Yamnaya/CWC instead flat grave like EEF Cucuteni Trypillia people.

Had R1a paternal lines just like CWC, but which later Yamnaya did not have so is more viable as the source of CWC than Yamnaya.

It is only a matter of time before Sredny Stog is recognised as the true source of IE languages and at that time we can say IE languages and the race that first spoke them are of European origin

These two tweets describe how a Reddit mod responds to a question about whether an all white "Scandinavia" in The Northman was accurate, by banning anyone from presenting DNA evidence. It shows that historians of Reddit are so stupid and ignorant, and so willing to replace inquiry with dogma, that they are simply evil. The discussion is ridiculous anyway because no part of the Northman takes place in Scandinavia! It's in Iceland and Ukraine.

Autumnal traditions: One of the maddest, most spectacular folk traditions of the British Isles is the annual burning of the tar barrels in Ottery St Mary in Devon. The chaps who lift the flaming barrels are called barrellers; they have to be local, born and bred, and they begin lifting running the tar barrels at the age of seven! https://youtu.be/qnXx6jvsQto
