The new find from Berkshire mentioned previously also has a clear paralel within Anglo-Saxon England in the similar patrix/die found in Lincolnshire above. Again a bearded male holds a snake in each hand.
Rather than linking this to the myth of baby Hercules (this is clearly an adult male) I consider this to depict Woden and the snakes are a symbol of Hel and the dead with which he was associated.

THE SPIRIT OF YULE!
Guided by The Green Knight, travel through the centuries to see the pagan roots of Yuletide from the Dickensian, to the Arthurian and back to the Anglo-Saxons and Norse. Dig into the origins and history of the Christmas season.

The problem with Platonism is that it is universalist, that it adopts a view from nowhere and that it is a late-stage civilizational phenomenon which repudiated the particularism, ethnocentrism and localism of the ancient faith, hollowed out the ancient Mediterranean world and made its takeover by Christianity all that much easier.
Indeed, we can trace all of the ways in which Christianity breaks from nationalism back to the Platonism with which it merged in order to take over the Mediterranean world.

Many cultures had similar practices for inducing prophetic dreams provoked by the spirits of the dead.

I post physique to share this fine quote by Paracelsus:

In the other image on the right you can see evidence that we already have discovered a gold bracteate made with this exact patrix!
The image depicts a bearded man holding a snake in each hand, rather like the motif of the baby Hercules, or of the Minoan snake woman. A closer cultural comparison can be made to the 'snake witch' stone of Gotland which depicts a woman holding a snake in each hand or runestone Sö 175 from Aspö, Södermanland on which a man grasps the lindworms in each hand.

The moderators were delighted and announced that this marginalized POC would bestow pearls of ethnic wisdom on the very white and wiccan members of the group. He proceeded to advise on animal sacrifices and was promptly banned. It has remained a great source of amusement for me in the years since this occurred.

In advance of Yule I shall just remind people that although in the past I pointed out that Odin's epithet JÓLFAÐR "yule father" sounds like Father Christmas, that is in fact just a coincidence. Odin was indeed the principle god of the Yule festival, but he is not related to Santa Claus.
Father Christmas and Santa Claus are two separate figures who got merged together recently. The latter was mainly in West Germanic speaking continental Europe and was based on Saint Nicolas, while the former was in France and the British Isles and is literally a personification of Christmas itself. Neither existed in Scandinavia or Iceland until recently. The Nordic equivalent was a goat and it is perhaps of relevance that early English depictions of Father Christmas depict him riding on a goat so there may be a connection between the Julbok and Father Christmas but maybe not.
The reindeer and North pole stuff is all modern invention from USA so any resemblance to Odin is coincidence.
Also, as a heathen father, I don't consider it pious to tell my children that the fat purveyor of plastic toys is our god. It isn't. I also refrain from referring to the small pointy hatted servants as "elves" since in our religion this term is reserved for honoured ancestral spirits. I prefer to say gnome so as to avoid confusion. The Nordic countries call them nisse but this may derive from a term meaning "ancestor" which raises similar concerns.
Close to the Bronze barrow at Håga in Sweden is the so called Hågakyrkan (Håga church) which is a rectangle of stones inside which sacrifices were made. Whether it was once the foundation of a temple building or if it was always just stones, I do not know, but it is certain that it was a sacred space.
It was here that my wife and I spoke our wedding vows and were wed (we had another ceremony in a cathedral later for the benefit of our families). You can get a good look at it in this short video

This map shows the migration routes of “the Aryans” from northern Europe into the Eurasian Steppe then later into southern Asia. Per ancient DNA.
The “Aryans” were an Indo-European nation, derived from Corded Ware, which created many different archaeological cultures in their history.
Fatyanovo, Abashevo, Sintashta, Srubnaya, Andronovo.
DNA from all these cultures shows they were one nation/people and I like to refer to them all as “the Aryans.”

We are glad to announce the official launch of Mythopoetic. Gathering artists coming from all over Europe, Mythopoetic is an art platform specialised in producing, selling and manufacturing art prints inspired by mythology as well as mythic and fantastic themes. It also features a blog elaborating on the great myths as well as traditions following the cycle of the year.
We believe the old gods are still dwelling hidden in the shadows of modernity. The dead kings still sleep under the mountains, though the rumour of their awakening has fallen silent. But out of the foggy nights of November echoes a whispering wind. It tells of a forgotten world our eyes do not see anymore. It drives into the ashen coal of myth and rekindles a roaring fire, lighting up the inspiration in the heart of the artists capable of transmuting it.
We want to give those artists the opportunity to share their vision and to re-enchant the world with us.

Just not true.
Platonism comes out of Pythagorean teachings. It is consistent with polytheism and thus was the only philosophy extent among the last pagans of Rome who resisted Christianity, including Emperor Julian.
It does not EVER advocate for the destruction of regional religious cults, or of ethnic religious tradition. It does not advocate for monotheism!
People keep saying this but it just shows they don't know what they are talking about.
Anyone can be a Platonist, but it doesn't prevent one from maintaining the rites of their ancestral religion. Platonism is not a religion, it is a philosophy of everything which informs how one interprets the theology of one's religion.
Every pagan religion had an elite, highly educated class who were instructed in the deeper metaphysical principles of their tradition but this knowledge of people like the druids is lost! - however one such school of advanced pagan metaphysics was preserved in the writings of many members of the academy. The survival of such works is a blessing from the gods. They are an excellent tool to show us how pagan intellectuals approached the great questions of life.
We know as a fact that Celtic druids and Scythians went south to learn from Platonist thinkers. Why did they make such great journeys?
