I had him on power, but Tom was far too quick for me! He won by forfeit after some well aimed gut punches. Well fought. ⚡️
The Ohrid idol was recently discovered in the monastery of St. Naum, near Lake Ohrid in Macedonia. The idol is now located in the monastery yard on a plinth near the northeast corner of the church.
Because it was used in the building construction its original context is lost. The ithyphallic figure is certainly pre-Christian. Dating is rather broad c 500 BC - 500 AD.

Photographs from this year's Midsummer blót at my hearth, Woden's Grove. This year, we gathered by a century-old tree and to worship Þunor (Old Norse: Þórr) and Wōden (Old Norse: Óðinn).
First, we began by thanking Wōden for giving us Þunor. Prayers were directed towards Him, followed by libational offerings. Following this, we made blót to Þunor as is custom. The day finished with feasting and merriment.
The photographs above capture some moments of this year's Midsummer event.
Happy Summer Solstice to the legions worldwide.

As long as the fires burn in the sacred grove
This blood survives.
The study also finds that while EEF women sometimes bred with WSH men, WSH women usually only paired up with their own men thereby maintaining the purity of their genepool for long periods, especially in the North. The males with WSH ancestry in the collective grave seem to have been raised in the local EEF culture and not that of the absent Corded Ware father, who may have belonged to a Männerbunde
Читать полностью…A new study looks at a late Neolithic family grave from Bréviandes les pointes in the Paris basin dates about 2500 BC. This is a crucial time and place for understanding how the Corded ware became Bell Beaker by mixing with EEF west of the Rhine.
They found that 2/7 skeletons had steppe ancestry. A man and his son. The man was about 35% WSH and an older pure EEF woman was his Mother. Therefore his Dad was a Corded Ware man with 70% steppe ancestry buried elsewhere (probably in a barrow). He represents the oldest example of WSH in France so far. The males had R1b1a1b1a1a haplogroups.
This study also samples an early Bell Beaker male burial from the same region with about 35% WSH ancestry

X user Cisalpineswag has attempted to determine the breakdown of pre-Celtic Bronze Age ancestry vs Continental Celtic ancestry in various Iron Age British and Irish samples which he has labelled according to their inferred tribal affiliations.
I think this model shows a surprisingly high impact from the continent.
When the continental signal was first detected Reich predicted it only effected about a 10% change in ancestry in South Britain, but here it is modelled as replacing nearly 1/2 of the Bronze age ancestry which I think is unlikely.
Edit: Apparently Patterson et al 2022 estimated similar figures so might be right

The hamarsmark of Þórr as mentioned in Hákonar saga Góða has been a point of debate when it comes to authentic heathen customs, but it is attested among the Lapps as Johan Randulf (1723) records in the Nærøy manuscript:
(…) og alle saa vel giffte som ugiffte Finner der gaae til nadvere et glas øll, men besybderlig et glas brendeviin, om hand det haver og dypper de 3 fingre der udj, hvor med hand i siin pande teigner et kaars, som skal betyde Thors Kryds-hammer, dette giør hand til at forsikke Thor om sin stedsvarende troe tienste (…)
(...) and all Finns, both married and unmarried, who go to communion have a glass of beer, but particularly in a glass of Brennivin if they have it, and dip three fingers in the glass, where with their hand on their forehead they draw a cross, which must mean Thor's Cross-hammer, this serves to assure Thor that they are his faithful servants (...)
Want to add that I do not agree with the conclusion that maritime bell beakers spread north with collective grave EEF types.
IF the earliest bell shaped beakers really are maritime from tagus region then their spread is not by beaker folk and is not the bell beaker phenomenon. Said phenomenon is a package of grave attributes and begins in the region of SGC belgium/holland. SGC already buried their men with drinking vessels that look a lot like bell beakers to me. Maybe those vessels became influenced by a more southern pottery style but the entire package of BBC is from SGC. The inclusion of the drinking vessel in a grave comes from Corded ware

It was an auspicious offering of mead libations, bone fire, a bread idol, and other food including a communal goat stew. The blot was followed by sumble and games late into the night.
To classify everyone else as indigenous while ignoring the thousands of years that that my lineage dwelled upon the rainy Isles of North Western Europe highlights your insidious intent to dehumanize my people.

While WSH ancestry in Netherlands and Britain remained stable at around 50%, in France it was gradually diluted and also diluted as Beaker folk moved South
“France, we observe a decrease in steppe ancestry within a few hundred years between 2500 and 2250 BCE to around 35 to 40%, a value that appears to remain stable to at least 1700 BCE. Further incorporation of Neo-ancestry into the steppe ancestry background occurred during the southward migration of steppe ancestry carriers toward the Iberian Peninsula, leading to the dilution of steppe ancestry from ~25% during the Chalcolithic to ~13% during the Bronze Age”
The physical and metaphysical nature of our Gods and ritual worship are discussed frequently on a multitude of platforms. But what’s rarely seen are observances to the scale of our Gods and the importance of physical ritual worship to know Them.

Vættir is believed to be the broad term for spirits across Scandinavia. Whilst they may be used specifically, they are also categories.
Although the following names are Scandinavian, this cultural phenomena is not exclusive to Scandinavia but across continental Europe.
Landvættir = Land Spirits
Fjallvættir = Mountain Spirits (picture 01)
Sjóvættir = Sea Spirits (picture 02)
Skogvættir = Forest Spirits (picture 03)
Vatnavættir = Guardians of the specific waters
