Today is April 12 - Cosmonauts' Day
On April 12 the world celebrates the International Day of Human Space Flight - a memorable date dedicated to the first manned flight into space.
Exactly 60 years ago, on April 12, 1961, Senior Lieutenant Yuri Gagarin on the Vostok spacecraft made the first orbital flight around the Earth for the first time in the world, opening the era of manned space flights.
The flight, which lasted only 108 minutes, was a powerful breakthrough in space exploration. The name of Yuri Gagarin became widely known in the world.

If another lockdown is inevitable were they waiting for the spring break to announce it or the first anniversary to the start of the pandemic in Uzbekistan?

Today is exactly 1 year since Uzbekistan's first lock down in 2020. And, symbolically, rumors spread about the upcoming lockdown, first in 2021. Currently, these rumors are groundless, according to officials.
Yesterday happened the first 2021 antirecord for Uzbekistan as there were 111 new cases with 93 in Tashkent only. This is growing gradually from March 10 (at 79 new cases total in the country). For comparison, on March 9 there were only 21 cases discovered.
We are all following the news now, let us see what is going to happen next.🤷♀
Other recent news include:
▪️ In the second half of March, March 15-20, 660,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine will be delivered to Uzbekistan under the COVAX program.

▪️Vaccinated citizens will be issued special certificates.

I have been reading so many complaints about how the express testing was organized at the Tashkent airport. Passengers were not even sure it was needed since they had to pay for it even if they had their own PCR test done before they took the flight. They were also doubtful of how much valid was the test. I am glad it is finally cancelled.

I am Meghan's big fan! I am so happy she can speak up for herself now!
FYI: comments function is available for every post from now on.
I remember clearly hearing "ko'kasi" about a month ago when I used GPS on my phone to explain a taxi driver how to get to the destination. Plus I don't drive myself. I used it today again to communicate the route with the driver and surprise!!! It sounds "ko'chasi" this time! Did get it fixed??? 😳
Listen to it yourself! 👇
Every year I celebrate first days of spring! 🌿🌷This year is somehow special. Maybe because of the pandemic or cold winter. Nice weather pushes you to wander in the city, walk, breathe and spend a lot of time outdoors. Can't get enough! 😇
I am resuming #TashkentSigns rubric and would like to share my observations in relation to texts in our city.
The first one is the Uzbek version of the word street - KO'CHASI. Did you notice while driving that the GPS voice pronounces it in a weird way? 😱😄
The sound CH in the word KO'CHASI sounds the same way as you would pronounce Ch in the word Chorsu. Although, GPS voice says it KO'KASI. It makes me laugh every time I hear it! 😂 Ko'ka is translated as a coltsfoot, which is used almost never in the conversations. And has some other meaning in Kazakh language. I wonder how that could be changed 🧐
☝️By the way, this is the address of the Samarkand Darvoza shopping mall.
If there are signs around you that make you wonder about their meaning, just take a photo and send it to me.
Enjoy spring! 🌺

Today the muslim world celebrates the start of Ramadan Kareem! 🌙
Ramadan implies not only physical restrictions, it is also meant to help people grow spiritually working on your charachter traits, limiting yourself blaming, accusing, lying and more importantly feeling compassionate to those in need.
I am happy to find around myself so many righteous people who practice the spritual part of it every single day without waiting for the Holy Month to start or claiming they belong to this or that religion.
Nonetheless, millions of people wish to devote themselves to prayers, fasting in physical and spiritual ways during this time. It is very long awaited, special and challenging period at the same time!
I congratulate everyone with the start of the Holy Month and wish positive and kind experience during your spiritual journey. I wish caring, conscious and understanding people around you. May you have friendly iftar time with your family every day and may your prayers be accepted, so this time is filled with kind and heartful events! 🙏
Happy Ramadan Kareem!

#covidintashkent #opinion Liza is here:)
Soooo.... in case you were waiting, here is the official data:
"As of March 15, the total number of detected cases of coronavirus in Uzbekistan is 80,743 (+65), 53 of them were identified in Tashkent yesterday.
The total number of recovered patients is 79371 (+40).
750 patients are being treated in medical institutions."
🤔 What I have been able to observe in the streets today, most of people are wearing masks! Last week Tashkent was maskless, even yesterday!
What are the reasons of those who do not believe in masks at all to wear them today? Are they afraid of fees or the virus?
Rumors spread! The prevailing thinking is that the rise of cases is fake as panic will help sell the vaccines (promised for mid March) for good price! Or may be gain another transfer of financial support... is it money or virus to influence decision making?
At the same time, ALL cinemas, theaters, museums, concert halls, restaurants and other public places work with no restrictions or changes. Markets, bazaars and public transport are more strict in their requirements from today.
On another note, yesterday the obvious was stated:
"The virus is spreading in Tashkent among students and employees of organizations," - Malika Kudratkhuzhaeva, head of the Tashkent City Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare.
"In particular, there is an increase among schoolchildren, students and employees of organizations and institutions. This indicates that quarantine measures are not implemented by the population, organizations and institutions. In other words, there are times when people do not use temperature measuring devices, go to work and study, despite their illness, thereby endangering others."

Question: Who spreads the virus?
👉 @tashkentmodernlife
⚡️From March 16, all schools in Mirzo-Ulugbek, Chilanzar and Yunusabad districts will be transferred to online education for 14 days.
Non-governmental and private educational organizations working in these areas are encouraged to transfer students to distance learning (for 14 days) from March 16.
In other districts of the capital, the learning will last until spring break (March 20 - 28) with full compliance with quarantine requirements.

⚡️ Taking into account the current epidemiological situation, in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus and various seasonal infections in public transport and to protect the health of passengers, using public transport will be required to wear a medical mask, as well as to strictly comply with the established quarantine requirements and sanitary standards.

Happy international Women's Day! 🦋🌺🦋
To remind us all how long we have gone through, I would like to share short stories of strong Uzbek women.
Nurkhon Yuldoshkhodjaeva
Nurkhon was born in 1913 in Margilan. These were the times when women performed only in ichkari (space for women only) and young men (bachchas) entertained men in tashkari (a space for men). Performing and acting was only becoming popular. Women were to ready to dress up male costumes to be able to perform anyway. Nurkhon and her sister Begimkhon ran away from home to be able to join the theatre. They couldn't tolerate their family prohibiting their love for acting. They were one of the first actresses and dancers of the newly established theatre named by Mukhitdin Kari-Yakubov. Nurkhon performed for the first time on March 8th, 1928 and her performance was proudly announced by the director of the theatre. She was a dedicated, talented uzbek actress and dancer.
On June 1, 1929 she was invited home by her father to tel her that the is forgiven. On the same day she was murdered by her brother for dancing in front of men without her veil. Her brother was executing their fathers will. The father and the son both were sentenced for killing Nurkhon. The next day a big number of women and man came to express their condolences. It is known that women threw away their veils at Nurkhons coffin.
In 1968 the monument made by Valentin Klebanov was installed in Margilan. It resembled women in the society whose wishes and rights were violated in the past. Unfortunately, it was disassembled in 1990. Although the monument is long gone, the society still remembers Nurkhon and her sacrifice. Attached photo shares an article about her life.

❗️The first pancake is lumpy. In Uzbekistan, vaccination against coronavirus has not yet begun, and special vehicles for storing vaccines have already been involved in an accident
A remarkable road accident took place in Tashkent, today at 11:30 am. 9 vehicles intended for transporting vaccines, which were donated to Uzbekistan by UNICEF, were traveling in a convoy and had an accident.
A total of 206 minivans and 17 refrigerated trucks at a cost of $ 2 million were transferred to the republic.
We hope the rest of them will get there without any problems ...

Last Saturday mayor of Tashkent met with Tashkent residents at the alley around TSUM. According to his statement the alley needs to be protected from the next mayor who may wish to reconstruct the whole green zone. So installation of the monument would keep alley safe. His justification wasn't strong enough for gathered people. Volunteers are continuing to collect signatures against introducing changes inside the green zone. More than 10 000 signatures are collected locally. Citizens can meet a volunteer during the day in the park to leave their voice.
Today the possible project of the monument installation was introduced. Current green plastic palm and deers will be removed and instead a new monument will be installed. The contest for the design of the monument will be finalized on March 7. Hokimiyat promises that not even one tree will suffer from these changes.
