➡️Income Tax Return Filing Analysis – FY 2025-26 (as on 31-08-2026)
1️⃣ As on 31-08-2026, total ITRs filed reached 7.81 crore (78,174,325), compared to 4.18 crore (41,821,225) on 31-08-2025.
2️⃣This shows an extraordinary increase of 3.63 crore returns, representing a growth of approximately 86.93% over the previous year.
3️⃣Out of the estimated 9.18 crore total returns expected for FY 2025-26, about 85.16% have already been filed by 31 August 2026.
4️⃣Only around 1.37 crore returns remain to be filed to reach the projected 9.18 crore total.
5️⃣Filing momentum accelerated sharply during the last week of August, indicating taxpayers were taking advantage of the extended filing period.
6️⃣Daily filing volumes increased significantly from around 2–4 lakh per day in early August to over 35 lakh filings on 31 August alone.
7️⃣The period from 24 August to 31 August witnessed the strongest filing activity, contributing more than 1 crore additional returns.
8️⃣The sharp rise suggests improved taxpayer compliance, wider digital adoption, and effective use of pre-filled return facilities.
9️⃣Compared with FY 2024-25, the current year is on track to achieve a record-high return filing count, despite the delayed filing pattern.
1️⃣0️⃣If the current trend continues, FY 2025-26 may comfortably cross the 9 crore mark, making it one of the highest ITR filing years in India's history.

## Your Income Tax Return Is No Longer Filed in Isolation.
Your AIS, Form 26AS, TDS records, bank interest, dividends and capital gains are all cross-verified.
Even a small mismatch can lead to a notice or a request for clarification.
Before clicking 'Submit', take 15 minutes to review these 8 areas:
✔ Supporting proofs for deductions and exemptions
✔ AIS & Form 26AS reconciliation
✔ Correct ITR form
✔ All sources of income disclosed
✔ Capital gains reported correctly
✔ Income from previous employer included (if applicable)
✔ File before the due date
