✍️Some people think that school should no longer be necessary because children can get information from the Internet.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
While some argue that the internet has made traditional schooling unnecessary, I strongly disagree with this view. Formal education continues to play a crucial role in a child's development and should not be replaced by online resources alone.
Firstly, schools provide a structured learning environment that is vital for the comprehensive intellectual growth of children. Classrooms offer opportunities for interactive discussions, hands-on experiments, and collaborative projects - experiences that are difficult to replicate through independent online learning. Teachers are also trained professionals who can assess students' progress, identify areas for improvement, and tailor their instruction accordingly. This level of personalised guidance is challenging to achieve through self-directed internet-based learning.
Moreover, schools fulfil an important social function by facilitating the development of crucial life skills. Children learn to navigate interpersonal relationships, resolve conflicts, and work in teams - abilities that are essential for their future success. The social setting of a school also exposes students to diverse perspectives and cultural backgrounds, preparing them to become well-rounded and tolerant members of society.
That said, I acknowledge the significant potential of the internet to complement traditional education. Online resources can provide students with access to a wealth of information, allow for flexible and self-paced learning, and enable the acquisition of digital literacy skills. However, these tools should be used to enhance, rather than replace, the comprehensive educational experience that schools offer.
In conclusion, while the internet has revolutionised the way we access information, it cannot replicate the holistic benefits of formal schooling. Schools remain indispensable in nurturing the intellectual, social, and emotional development of children, and should continue to play a central role in education.
