By now everyone has heard about how the new IPhone 7 doesn't have a headphone jack. But what's the real reason that they decided to remove such a standardized port?
It's a money grab... Anyone can go out and make a device that uses a 3.5mm jack. But Apple has a patent on the lightning port and to be able to make a pair of headphones that use this port you have to buy a license from them. It costs a company $4-8 for every unit sold that uses the lightning port.
By removing the headphone jack, Apple is forcing many headphone manufacturers to pay this hefty fee for using the lightning port. It's just a cheap way to get some extra cash.
