The U.S. Embassy’s youth competition is back this year with a focus on democracy. All Ethiopian youth from ages 18-25 are invited to explore and share their personal viewpoints on the interconnectedness of citizen participation, their future and democracy. They can choose to compete in the art challenge by submitting either a short video or a short poem addressing one of these themes:
• “What I want Ethiopia to be”
• "My contributions to elections”
• "What democracy means to me"
This arts challenge is part of the U.S. Embassy’s ongoing efforts to encourage respectful and peaceful dialogue among all Ethiopians, especially the youth. At this historic time in Ethiopia, the youth can play a vital role in society and so, we urge them to express their hopes for Ethiopia and articulate the ways they can make a difference and effect change.
Winners for the contests will receive digital devices such as laptops, tablets and mobile devices, that will support their continued learning and education.
The deadline for submission of videos is midnight May 3, 2021. Contestants must decide which art challenge category they will compete in. They can only compete in one category and submit one entry. Entries must be submitted in English.
The Embassy reserves the right to reject any video that discriminates against any religious, ethnic, or cultural values or any gender or persons with disability.
