Pavel Durov just announced that Telegram Premium, launched less than a year and a half ago, has become the fastest-growing paid subscription in the history of messaging applications.
The number of Premium subscribers has doubled in just 5 months and quadrupled in the last 12 months. Today it exceeded 4 million users.
In December 2022, we reported that Telegram reached the milestone of 1 million Premium subscribers, and in October 2023, the subscription was confirmed for 3.5 million people worldwide.

Limited Voice-to-Text for Everyone

Similar Channels
• Since this day, it has become easier to find new channels: when you join a channel, you will see a list of similar public channels.
• Only public channels are shown in this list - they are selected based on audience overlap.
• You can also see a list of similar channels in a special tab in the channel's profile.
• With Telegram Premium subscription, a user can see up to 100 similar channels, while without subscription only some of them are available.

Similar Channels
• When you join a channel, you now see a list of similar public channels.

Reposting Stories
• Now you can repost stories from your friends and favorite channels.
• You can add your own text, audio or even a video to the story.
• Choose the audience who will be able to see your repost.
• To repost a story, tap the share arrow and select "Repost Story".
• You can only repost stories that are visible to "Everyone".
Video Messages on Stories
• You can now add video messages over the stories.
• You can change the size of the video message, move it anywhere on the screen, and choose when the "circle" starts and ends.
• You can also add a video message to a repost of another user's story.
• To record a video message, hold the camera icon in the story editor.
• Hold on the timeline at the bottom of the screen to control volume.
⭐ Profile Colors
• Now Telegram Premium also lets you choose a unique color combination with logos for your profile to further enhance the personality of the page.
• You can customize your messages or profile, go to Settings > Chat Settings > Change Your Color (on Android) or Settings > Appearance > Your Color (On iOS).
⭐ Wallpapers for Both Sides
• Premium users can now set any wallpaper for themselves and their conversation partners in private chats at the same time.

⚡ Custom emojis as Reactions in Channels
• Channel admins have a new interface for managing reactions – where they easily can add or remove specific emoji.

• Channel stats now shows a reaction sentiment graph of the tone of reactions, showing how users reacted to posts.

Xiaomi GetApps store is distributing a malicious modification of the Telegram client
Some users report that the malicious app version comes pre-installed on Xiaomi smartphones they purchased.
The client downloaded from GetApps displays suspicious icons that offer participation in a giveaway and claim that the user has won a cash prize. Additionally, users report that the app may unexpectedly terminate the session, requiring a new login.
The @tginfo editors warn:
1. There is no official version 9.6.9 of the Telegram app for Android: after version 9.6.7, Telegram developers released version 9.7.0.
2. The giveaways and prizes mentioned by this modification are not related to Telegram. They are likely an attempt to steal your data.
We strongly advise against using or installing Telegram from Xiaomi GetApps.
If you are using the GetApps version of the messenger:
1. Log out from your account.
2. Delete the malicious version.
3. Install the official client from the Telegram website: telegram.org/android.
4. After a day, go to Settings › Devices and select "Terminate all other sessions". This will require re-login on all devices except the current one. If possible, instead of waiting a day, perform this action from another device where you have been using Telegram for some time.
5. In the GetApps settings, disable "Auto updates".
Similar Channels, Free Speech Recognition, Stories Stats, and Other Features
The @tginfo editors analyzed new strings discovered by @tgcrawl on the Telegram Translations platform. They suggest that an upcoming update for users may include following features:
• An option to view a list of similar channels.
• Custom reactions for channels.
• Free speech recognition for voice messages (limited).
• An option to change profile color (Premium).
• Story statistics.
• An option to choose if you want to change the chat background only for yourself or for both peers when changing chat background to an image selected from gallery.
It's important to note that all this information is based on our speculations from the Telegram Translation platform's strings, so the features might undergo some changes before release.

Auto-Login When Clicking Links to Official Telegram Resources
When clicking on the link web.telegram.org from the mobile or desktop Telegram application, the web application doesn't prompt the user to log in but instantly displays the content of their account. The same occurs when navigating through certain other links to official messenger resources.
While inconspicuous authorization is undoubtedly convenient for users, it introduces certain risks.

Large-scale Integration of Crypto Wallet into Telegram
At The Gateway conference, Andrey Rogozov announced the start of global integration of the @wallet service into the Telegram settings menu.
Quick access to the crypto wallet will gradually appear for users from different regions of the world:
• Starting today: in Africa and Latin America.
• In the first quarter of 2024: expansion to MENA, Eastern Europe and Asia.

Delete Large Telegram Channels and Groups Without Support Involvement
Readers have reported that in the latest versions of the Telegram app, users can now delete large channels and groups on their own, without needing to contact support. Previously, attempts to delete a sizable channel resulted in an error message; channel deletion required submitting a request to Telegram's support.
A source close to Telegram informed @tginfo that this change is intentional and is not a mistake.
To delete a channel or group with a thousand or more participants, the owner must meet several requirements:
• The user's session must have been active for several days.
• The account must be secured with a cloud password.
• The password should have been enabled several days prior.
If even one of these criteria isn't met, you won't be able to delete a large channel or group.
The updated Telegram apps now require several clicks to delete a channel. After the final confirmation, it shows an additional five second countdown timer for users to reverse the action.
The messenger didn't update its docs yet — it still claims it's impossible to delete a large channel with an API request.

Fake News: Telegram's Unlimited Storage to Become Paid
Some channels have started spreading rumors that Telegram will limit storage for free users and make unlimited storage a privilege for Premium subscribers.
A source close to Telegram informed us that this is untrue.
File storage in Telegram remains unlimited for all users, with a maximum single file size of 2 GB (Premium subscribers can upload files up to 4 GB).
The misinformation is based on the fact that the messenger changed the wording about the increased limit in the description of Telegram Premium features. This allegedly indicates that Telegram is planning to make unlimited storage paid, which is not true.

Telegram Is Again at the Top of the US App Store
The messenger is now at the first place in the US App Store in the Social Networks category. The app currently gets more downloads than Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads, Twitter, Signal and Discord.
In the general ranking, Telegram is in the top 20, and among its significant competitors it is second only to ByteDance apps (TikTok and CapCut).

Changes in The Telegram Boost System
On November 6th, administrators of channels gained the ability to organize giveaways. At the same time, the logic of receiving and using boosts changed. The @tginfo team explains all the main changes in the boost system.
Boost for users
Now users receive:
• 4 boosts for buying a paid subscription;
• 3 boosts for gifting a subscription to another user;
• 1 boost for receiving a subscription as a gift from another user.
• No boots for receiving a subscription as a gift from a channel.
Each boost is available to a user throughout the entire period of validity of the corresponding Premium subscription. For example, if you bought a 12-month subscription, you will have four votes for one year. If you gifted a 3-month subscription to your friend, he will have three additional votes for three months.
Using boosts
A user can give all their boosts to one or several channels. If they didn't give away all their boosts before November 6th, then after this date the may have a few new unused boosts.
Viewing information about boosts
A user can see information about their boosts only when they have given away all their boosts: until then this information is not available to them. If a user without any free boosts tries to boost a channel, the app will show a list of used boosts with information about their validity periods and the channels they were given to.
Boosts for channels
Before November 6th, a channel had to gain a certain number of boosts to progress to the next level. After November 6th, this number was increased — to 0.4%.

Telegram enforces penalties for sending Open Message links
Our users have reported that if you send a link that starts with tg open message (without spaces) to another user in a private chat, you may face consequences, including being kicked out of your account or receiving a spam ban. In some cases, the punishment may be even more severe, including the deletion of your account or the blocking of your phone number.
The @tginfo editorial team strongly advises against sending such links in private chats or any other types of chats (groups, bots, channels) in the near future.
