When buying Bitcoin are we really anonymous using non-KYC exchanges?
I have until recently been using a service to buy my Bitcoin, which they described as using 'KYC lite'. No ID required because they rely on your bank transaction details to achieve compliance for KYC. Due to anti crypto changes in UK regulations, this service is no longer available to me. So I am now looking at my options.
While looking into using Bisq to buy my Bitcoin, my investigations has raised questions for me about using this or similar exchanges. Although these exchanges do not ask for ID, they are allowed to exist because they rely mostly on payment methods that do require KYC. We must remember that the true purpose of KYC is having a method of tracking the money and more importantly the identify of those who use it. Unless we break the chain of the payment that links us to the transaction we are still at risk of being identified. This goal is becoming more and more harder as time goes on.
