Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati asked the Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib to summon the Iranian Chargé d'Affaires in Beirut and inquire about statements French Newspaper Le Figaro attributed to Iranian Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
The French newspaper alleged that Qalibaf had announced Tehran's readiness to negotiate with France on behalf of Lebanon, regarding the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Following the article's publication, Mikati said in a statement that the comments attributed to Qalibaf constituted a "blatant interference in Lebanese affairs and an attempt to impose an unacceptable tutelage over Lebanon."
Qalibaf visited Beirut less than a week ago, accompanied by the delivery of medical devices and other aid, and held meetings with officials to express Iran's support for the Lebanese resistance and people in the face of the Israeli aggression.
