⭕️ Lebanon appoints new governor of central bank
The Lebanese Council of Ministers appointed Karim Saeed, brother of former Lebanese MP Fares Saeed, as the new governor of the central bank.
Saeed received his academic education at Harvard Law School, where he studied banking law. He is associated with what is known as the "Harvard Plan," to solve Lebanon's economic crisis, which was funded by Growthgate Capital, where Saeed serves as the founder and managing partner.
The central bank's governor position has been vacant since the end of former central bank governor Riad Salameh's term on 31 July 2023.
❗️The UN World Food Programme (WFP) warns that hundreds of thousands in Gaza face renewed risks of severe hunger and malnutrition due to Israel’s ongoing blockade and the resumption of war.
“WFP and partners from the food security sector have been unable to bring new food supplies into Gaza for more than three weeks,” the agency said, adding that existing stocks will last only two more weeks.
Since Israel resumed its genocidal war on Gaza on 18 March, it has been killing an average of 103 Palestinians and injuring 223 more each day.
In just eight days, at least 830 people have been killed and 1,787 wounded in intense Israeli bombardment across the Strip.
Israel had already been imposing deadly conditions on Gaza since 7 October, including starvation tactics and a suffocating blockade aimed at eradicating the population.

⭕️ Turkiye considers military base in Syria at request of Damascus
Sources from the Turkish Ministry of Defense to the Anadolu Agency reported today that Ankara is continuing to assess the possibility of establishing a military base in Syria at the request of Damascus.
In statements made in Ankara, the sources discussed the ministerial meeting held in Jordan on 9 March, which included the foreign ministers of Turkiye, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. The meeting aimed to address the situation in Syria.
They emphasized that the five countries agreed to support Syria's transitional government. Sources stated, "In alignment with the new Syrian government's demands and in coordination with the relevant countries, there was an agreement to establish a joint operations center."

Yemen fires ballistic missiles at Tel Aviv hours after US airstrikes

⭕️ Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, in an interview with France 24, stated that French President Emmanuel Macron is working on organizing a conference to assist Lebanon. He emphasized that Lebanon must implement necessary reforms and meet International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions to qualify for international aid.
Regarding the security situation, Aoun called for both sides to respect the ceasefire agreement, highlighting Israeli violations in five disputed border areas. He stressed the importance of France, the US, and other partners ensuring stability. Aoun also outlined key steps before negotiations, including a full ceasefire, the release of prisoners, and Israel's withdrawal from the contested areas.
