❗️Kallas calls China, Russia, Iran, North Korea an 'autocratic alliance' challenging global order
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said today that the leaders of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, who appeared together at a military parade in Beijing, form an "autocratic alliance" challenging the 'rules-based' international order.
"While Western leaders gather in diplomacy, an autocratic alliance is seeking a fast track to a new world order," Kallas, the European Union's high representative for foreign and security policy, told reporters in Brussels.
"Looking at President Xi standing alongside the leaders of Russia, Iran, [and] North Korea in Beijing today, these aren't just anti-Western optics: This is a direct challenge to the international system built on rules."
❗️AP: Dimona construction likely linked to Israel’s nuclear weapons program
Satellite imagery shows increased construction at the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center near Dimona, linked to Israel’s nuclear weapons program, experts told the Associated Press. They said it could be either a new reactor or a facility for assembling nuclear weapons, though the program’s secrecy makes it difficult to confirm.
Seven experts who analyzed the images agreed that the construction is likely connected to Israel’s nuclear weapons program, given its location near the Dimona reactor, where no civilian power plant exists. However, they differed on the precise purpose of the new work.
Three experts said the site’s size, multi-floor design, and location made it most likely a new heavy water reactor, which could produce plutonium and other materials essential for nuclear weapons.
The remaining four experts noted that while it could be a heavy water reactor, it might also be a facility for assembling nuclear weapons.
