I would like to add to this point. Many times people believe that The Norroena Society is seeking to fulfil only an academic standard. While scholarly research is the basis of our work, the end result should always be to build a relationship with the gods. The tradition is what we are seeking to restore. With the tradition must come proper research. It cannot be rejected or excused away. But spirituality is how we develop our own connection to the divine.

This video is a breathtaking testament to the power of dedication, creativity, and reverence for our roots. Every detail, from the aesthetic choices to the passionate delivery of the folk song, reflects an energy that goes far beyond mere performance. It is a celebration of our ancestral spirit—a tribute to the traditions and beliefs that once guided our forebears in harmony with the natural world.
The effort poured into this piece—its costumes, setting, and music—shows a love for our shared heritage. The song itself carries a message of resilience and pride, standing as a beacon for those who feel the call of their folk faiths. It’s a beautiful reminder that our revival cannot be stopped.
To all who were involved in creating this, you have our deepest respect. Your work inspires others to embrace their cultural identities, to reconnect with their roots, and to honor the old ways in a world that often forgets them.
Let this serve as a rallying cry to European folk faith communities worldwide. Take up the mantel! Create art, music, and traditions that reflect the beauty and strength of our faiths. Every act of revival, no matter how small, brings us closer to the rebirth of our cultural and spiritual heritage.
Together, we are part of something greater—a movement that honors the past while building a future rooted in tradition.
Hail the gods, hail the ancestors, and hail the revival! 🌿⚔️

ODIN'S WIFE:
The First Definitive Study of Odin's Wife, Frigg.
For more than a millennium, the people of Northern Europe venerated an Earth goddess, which evidence attests is the oldest known Germanic deity. Called by a number of names, when the accounts are compared, common traits emerge. During Yule, she rides among her people in a wagon inspecting homes, rewarding the industrious and punishing the lazy. With her husband, she leads the fearsome Wild Hunt, riding through the winter skies, cleansing the air of evil. Most often identified as Odin's wife, the ancients called her "Mother Earth", "Queen of Heaven", and the "Mother of the Gods", roles firmly rooted in her Indo-European pedigree. Only now can the full scope of her reign be revealed.
Presenting an in-depth study of Mother Earth in Germanic mythology and folklore from prehistoric times to the present day, with an emphasis on the primary sources of our mythic knowledge.

We have stated here on this channel that our sacred legends were, before put to parchment, songs. And these songs would be preformed in gatherings, rituals and even in halls for feasting. The rhyme and rhythm to help in memorization, and to protect these legends from tampering or revision.
These moiraiensemble1548">ladies made a song with passages from the Germanic Voluspa. Part of revival is to hear how your forefathers and foremothers did. Tapping into your blood memory where reason alone cannot reach. A deep primal feeling and profound spirituality flows within your veins.

Compare these coins. The first from 9th c. Denmark depicts a stag surrounded by three holy signs; a mask (Wodin?), a valknut and a coiled snake.
The second, from 9th c. Ribe, has the mask but the valknut is replaced by another snake. the stag's antlers look like an Ing rune.
The third, also from Ribe, has the snake and the valknut but the mask is replaced by a ring or torque.
The fourth is from Anglo-Saxon Northumbria, and introduces the Christian cross.
The stag evokes Scythian imagery, while the snake evokes the underworld. The meaning of the Woden mask and Valknut are unclear.
Ponder these symbols of power, friends.
The fact that the same symbols are used in Anglo-Saxon and Viking contexts shows there was a shared religion. We also can tell from the following account that stags and snakes were depicted in Anglo-Saxon pagan temples.
"Let us raise a hymn, especially because He who thrust into Tartarus of terrible torture the ghastly three-tongued serpent who vomits torrents of rank and virulent poisons through the ages deigned in like measure to send to earth the offspring begotten of holy parturition... and because where once the crude pillars of the same foul snake and the stag were worshipped with coarse stupidity in profane shrines, in their place dwelling for students, not to mention holy houses of prayer, are constructed skilfully by the talents of the architect."
— Aldhelm's letter to Heahfrith, 680s
What is The Folkthing?
The Folkthing is a coalition of leaders from traditional heathen organizations, community influencers, and researchers working together to revitalize heathenry as a thriving, authentic tradition. While each organization maintains its independence, we unite to establish shared standards of practice and belief, fostering cohesion and elevating the way heathenry is understood and practiced. Together, we aim to build a stronger, more unified future for the Teutonic faith.
This will consist of a standardized format for blóts and sumbls with room for local customs and traditions to be maintained and expressed as seen throughout history. Our goal is to rebuild the Tradition (worldview) that is expressed through traditions (local customs). The Folkthing is mostly easily understood through the following mission statement.
To promote and facilitate an authentic and traditional teutonic faith and practice, to encourage cohesion and unity of praxis and doctrine; and to establish the forum necessary to facilitate these goals.

A Yuletide warning for brainy young friends. Always direct your reading and learning towards the ultimate spiritual purpose. It is right for a young man so inclined to immerse himself in philosophy, theology and the world of ideas only if he ultimately manifests those ideas into a coherent way of being. The intellectually gifted can fall victim to a type of vanity that transforms them into wordcels incapable of living out the ideas they have studied. Theories become obstructions to the modes of being they present and the victims use them as masks to obscure their failure.
“All too often people forget that spirituality is essentially a way of life and that its measure does not consist of notions, theories, and ideas that have been stored in one’s head. Spirituality is actually what has been successfully actualized and translated into a sense of superiority which is experienced inside by the soul, and a noble demeanor, which is expressed in the body.” Evola
He (King Hakon) made it law that observance of Jól should begin at the same time as Christian people observed Christmas (December 25), and then everyone was to have a measure of ale, or else pay a fine, and keep holiday as long as the ale lasted. But previously observance of Jól began on midwinter night (end of January) and continued for three nights. –Hákonar Saga Góða ch. 13

Once again we see the system unfold, and the system is the religion. We proposed the idea that the purpose of blót is to offer gifts to the Gods in return for their blessings or “Helps.” This is called both Hjalpr and Bjargr in the old tongue, both meaning “Help.”
When so many random things are telling you the same thing, then they aren’t random at all. They are part of a larger system, and we are now further in our understanding of the system.
The Gallehus Horns are long thought to have been sacrificial horns, and if what is said here is true, it delves once again into the notion of praying for Hjalpr to defeat Nauð. There simply is no other explanation. This IS the ancestral purpose, and is part of the grander system or religion.

NEW EPISODE — The Bog — What is Orthodox Heathenry? w/ Mark Puryear
https://www.hearthfireradio.com/watch?v=qZsbVVYT
Paganism is wrongly characterized as a lifestyle of personal freedom where the individual determines his own moral obligations. In reality, all paganisms were highly constrained moral systems that were highly rule-based, legalistic, and involuntary. Germanic heathenry no less. So what does actual orthodox heathenry look like? What sort of laws are we bound to? Dave speaks to Mark Puryear of the Norroena Society about our relationship to laws and right action.

"The grove is called after its ruler and guardian, Mimer's or Treasure-Mimer's grove (Mimis holt-Younger Edda, Upsala Codex; Gylfag., 58; Haddmimis holt-Vafthrudnism, 45; Gylfag., 58).
Gylfaginning describes the destruction of the world and its regeneration, and then relates how the earth, rising out of the sea, is furnished with human inhabitants. "During the conflagration ( i Siirtorloga) two persons are concealed in Treasure-Mimer's grove. Their names are Lif (Lif) and Leifthraser (Leifthrasir), and they feed on the morning dews. From them come so great an offspring that all the world is peopled."

Ragnarok: En Billeddigtning.
Líf and Lífþrasir plant a tree after Ragnarök with a child.
In Norse mythology, Líf and Lífþrasir are the only two humans who survive Ragnarök, the end of the world. Their names mean "Life" and "Lover of Life," symbolizing hope and renewal. They hide in Mimirs sacred grove, where they survive by drinking morning dew. After Ragnarök, they emerge to repopulate the earth, starting a new cycle of life.
NEW EPISODE — The Bog — Pagan Apologetics I - The Ancestral Principle
https://hearthfireradio.com/podcast/pagan-apologetics-i-the-ancestral-principle/
Pagans are now starting to hold their own in terms of debate and defending their worldviews, and this has meant developing some novel ideas, approaches, and arguments. One such approach is the ancestral principle, the idea that authority over something comes from having created it. This simple intuition, when followed to its logical conclusions, spells the end of all traditions except the most ancestral ones. The Boglords welcome Mike Maxwell back to the program to discuss how we can use it to its full effect.
