Three people were killed in Ghana and 39 injured when Chinese contractors blew up rocks without informing the community. Locals were furious, with one of them hitting a Chinese contractor over the head with a large piece of wood.
The blasting was reportedly scheduled to occur at 5 pm but occurred at 3 pm. Had the community been informed, people would have sought shelter and safety during the blast. Instead, flying stones left several killed and dozens injured. Afterward, locals escorted the Chinese nationals to the community chief, likely to discuss punishment.
Ghana has recently become China’s largest trading partner in Africa. In 2019, China lent $2 billion worth of rail, road, and bridge infrastructure in exchange for 5% of the country’s bauxite.

Читать полностью…Students in Ecuador are protesting against the multiple crises of neoliberalism in the country. Ecuador has seen rolling electricity blackouts for months now, along with a general economic crisis that has caused public services to collapse. In addition, they are calling attention to the issue of violent crime for which there has been no solution, despite the rhetoric of the right-wing government.
Despite being a major oil producer, the country is suffering an extreme energy crisis due to climate change, leaving hydro-electric dams empty. Blackouts have been leaving millions without electricity on a near constant basis, often for 10 hours or more at a time. Industry has been told to cut their use of electricity by 50%.
The right-wing President Daniel Noboa claimed that he’d be a steady captain for the economy as the heir to one of the largest agri-business capitalists and banana exporters. Nevertheless, his period in office has been a failure by almost every possible metric.

On this day in 1968, US Olympic athletes John Carlos and Tommie Smith made the Black Power salute at the medal ceremony in Mexico.
The athletes were protesting the ongoing racial injustice in the US. They wore a black glove to represent Black power, socks instead of shoes to represent poverty, and a black scarf around the neck to symbolize the lynching of Black people.
The images were seen worldwide and became symbolic for the Black struggle for emancipation in the US that was heating up in the 60s. In their own country, they were criticized, attacked, and received death threats. They were suspended from the Olympic team and immediately sent home.
Regarding all the difficulties he endured, Carlos said: “I have no regrets. The people who have regrets are the ones who were there in 1968 and did nothing.”

Indian revolutionary and professor Dr. G.N. Saibaba has passed away. He died from medical complications resulting from his imprisonment and torture by the fascist Indian government.
Saibaba was an outspoken critic of the Indian government and grew to prominence for his opposition to the campaigns to displace Indigenous Adivasis for corporate plunder.
In 2014, Saibaba was arrested under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for alleged links to the Communist Party of India (Maoist). He was charged based solely on the testimony of dozens of police officers. While imprisoned, Saibaba continued writing and speaking out against injustice from the confines of his cell.
In March 2024, Saibaba was acquitted of all charges and was just beginning to enjoy his freedom. The state may have killed him, but the revolution he supported continues. Read red. media’s exclusive interview with CPI (Maoist) party spokesperson Amrut to learn more about the revolution in India.

In a further decline of inter-Korean relations, the Korean People’s Army of the DPRK destroyed two roads connecting the Korean peninsula across the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Last week, the DPRK government pledged to destroy these roads as part of an effort to “prevent war.”
Alejandro Cao De Benós, the only foreign national authorized to speak on behalf of the DPRK government, stated that the action was in response to drones dropping anti-DPRK propaganda leaflets over the country, including the capital, Pyongyang.
Data going back to May shows that defector-led groups in the Republic of Korea (ROK) have launched anti-DPRK propaganda leaflets at least 51 times, a sharp increase compared to the prior period.
Despite the growing severity of the crisis, the ROK government refuses to take action regarding the defector groups’ balloon launches. It states that they fall under “freedom of expression.” Experts suspect that the government could actually be instigating the launches.

A German court ruled that the Neo-Nazi Julian V., a former soldier and accomplice of the far-right Reichsbürger movement, did not act out of conviction when he planned to supply the movement with large quantities of weapons.
The far-right Reichsbürger movement has been plaguing Germany for some time, with a number of terrorist groups that aim to violently topple Germany’s government. One such group are the “United Patriots”, which Julian V. was found guilty of supporting.
Julian V. diligently shared content glorifying the Waffen SS, Wehrmacht, the Croatian Ustaša, and the infamous far-right German terrorist group “NSU”, among other things. If he did not act out of “political conviction,” then it appears fascism is “not political” in Germany.
To no surprise, Julian V. isn’t the first to get away with a suspended sentence. Several other trials are ongoing as Germany claims to combat the movement. However, outcomes like these leave one asking if these proceedings are just a charade.

Читать полностью…Argentinians have hit the streets once again in defense of public education following neoliberal President Milei’s decision to block new funding for universities. Hyper-inflation under his free-market regime has left universities with massively underfunded budgets.
Milei vetoed a law that would have increased university budgets in line with inter-annual inflation, currently at 209%. Argentina’s universities were once considered some of the best in the Americas. With a devastated budget they are unlikely to keep up.
Protesters say these cuts are a prelude to the full privatization of education in the country.

Serbians continue protesting the government’s push to open a widely unpopular lithium mine. Yesterday’s protest was about more than just one mine. Farmers and activists spoke about the government’s subservience to foreign investors and neo-colonialism.
The parliament just voted against a ban on mining lithium and boron despite a poll showing that 60% of Serbians are against lithium mining. In the wake of the vote, activists announced that the issue “will be solved on the streets.”
Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto is working with the Serbian government to expropriate over 20 villages across western Serbia. In 2022, a mass movement forced the government to cancel the mine. The government has now reopened the project, with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić saying he “promised it to the Germans.”
The mine would produce 58,000 tons of lithium annually, accounting for 17% of the lithium needed for European electric vehicle production.

🟡 NOW: Students tried to barricade themselves in the Free University of Berlin, threatening to destroy the server room if police entered the building. They demanded an immediate end to the deep-seated relationship between the university and the State of Israel, among other things.
However, several university staff remained in the building alongside the Palestine solidarity activists. As the police arrived quickly, ready to crack down, they escaped the building. None of the occupiers remain in the building, and police have already made several arrests.
The attempted occupation follows last summer’s takeover at Humboldt University Berlin, where protesters tried to negotiate their demands with university authorities.
A statement released by the occupiers declares, “The time for begging for justice from the University is over.”

Italy has transferred the first group of migrants to Albania to be held in processing centers critics have described as “Italian Guantanamo.” The transfer marks the first such mission under a controversial deal between the two countries, aiming to deport asylum seekers out of the EU.
The agreement, agreed upon in November of last year, allows for as many as 36,000 migrants intercepted in Italian waters to be sent to Albania each year for an initial five years. The migrants will be required to undergo processing in the two Italian-run migrant centers set up in the port city of Shëngjin and nearby Gjadër, north of the Albanian capital Tirana.
Italy’s right-wing government, led by Giorgia Meloni, has praised the arrangement as unprecedented. Other EU states and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen see it as a model for further tightening immigration policies. However, rights groups have condemned it for raising “serious human rights concerns.”

The attack is seen as another attempt to empty northern Gaza, with Israel intensifying its bombardment, forcing civilians to choose between starvation or displacement. The now over a year-long Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has killed over 42,409 people and injured over 99,153.

The Black Panther Party organized the oppressed by providing public services, using their Second Amendment right to bear arms, and advocating for socialism and national liberation. In doing so, they shocked the US government, which undertook a campaign of repression that included infiltration and sabotage from the FBI.

As Israel’s all-out war on Lebanon surpasses two weeks, Hezbollah Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem delivered a speech. Here are our key highlights from the speech:
🟡 “Israel is a monster. We are the ones committed to reining in this monster and confining it to its cage.”
🟡 “Our role is no longer limited to supporting Palestine; now we are on a new battlefield called enemy’s pain.“
🟡 “We have demonstrated that we can strike anywhere in the territories occupied by Israel. The only solution is a ceasefire. If the war continues, everyone in Israel will be in danger. “
🟡 “We began two weeks ago to start with this balance of confrontations at the border, [...]. Honestly, what our brothers achieved in the field in the last two weeks was much better than what we and our fighters had expected [...]. The main objective of the resistance is to follow the Israeli occupation and to pursue them wherever they enter.”
