Indigenous Amazonian communities in Ecuador have seized the governor’s building in the region of Napo to protest against the construction of a mega-jail on their territory.

The right-wing government of President Noboa is attempting to build more jails to deal with the skyrocketing rate of crime. Crime has exploded ever since leftist President Rafael Correa left office in 2016.

Under President Correa, Ecuador’s homicide rate was the second lowest in South America. Since 2016, the country has had three neoliberal governments and the number of violent deaths has increased by 500%. This has resulted in Ecuadorians becoming one of the fastest growing groups of migrants attempting to reach the US as people seek to flee growing poverty and violence.

🟡 Mazen Al-Hamada, a prominent Syrian activist known for his recollection of torture in President Assad’s notorious prison system, was laid to rest in Damascus in a public ceremony. Mazen’s body was found with signs of torture among dozens of others in the Sednaya Prison, known by Syrians as the “Human Slaughterhouse.”

🟡 Famous Al-Jazeera TV host Faisal Al-Qassem recently called for mass beheadings by guillotine of Assad loyalists on social media. Faisal Al-Qassam hosts the program “The Opposite Direction,” which has long been considered highly controversial. Critics allege that Faisal has long been paying lip service to groups such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda, and has at times invited people to his show who held sympathetic views towards the aforementioned groups.

🟡 Around 90,000 Syrians have fled to Lebanon following the Assad government’s collapse, according to Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar. Since Sunday, 7,000 people officially entered Lebanon, but thousands more crossed illegally. Most are minorities from former government-protected areas, reportedly forced out by militant threats and attacks.

🟡 The Kurdish administration in northeast Syria has declared a prisoner amnesty to mark the fall of the al-Assad regime, The Associated Press reports. 🟡 UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern over Israel’s repeated airstrikes in Syria, citing violations of the country’s sovereignty and the 1974 ceasefire agreement. Speaking through his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres urged an urgent deescalation of violence and emphasized the need to uphold the ceasefire, which he insists remains valid.

The railway station awning recently underwent reconstruction, which was facilitated by a Chinese company. Protesters blame its collapse on the corrupt and decadent ruling elite, and are calling for top officials to resign and be arrested.

While the West rebrands former ISIS and Al-Qaeda terrorists as “moderate rebels,” they’ve been executing and torturing anyone who doesn’t align with their worldview since taking power.

The West also turned a blind eye to Libya’s slave markets after Gaddafi’s fall. Some truths are just too inconvenient to report.

🟡 Syria Update — Day 15:

🟡 Independent UN experts have decried Israel’s targeted aerial strikes on Syria as blatantly unlawful, with their clear attempt at preemptively disarming Syria in order to render it defenseless against further acts of aggression. George Katrougalos, UN special rapporteur on the promotion of democratic and equitable international order, described the strikes as “attacks without provocation against a sovereign state.”

🟡 The de-facto authorities in Damascus have reportedly set in motion a campaign to confiscate firearms from civilians. Critics say this move could help entrench HTS rule and root out the possibility of any major opposition. Others point to the ruling being issued in light of weapons being looted from numerous storage facilities.

🟡 Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, has commented on Assad’s toppling, saying that the event did cause disruption to the Axis of Resistance, but that the Axis will adapt to the new circumstances and come out stronger.

🟡 Commander-in-Chief of the Kurdish-led and US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdî, stated that his troops have been forced to pause anti-ISIS operations due to the persistent threat from Turkish-backed SNA forces. Commander Abdî further noted that they have already seen ISIS exploiting the new power vacuum to grow stronger.

🟡 The Turkish Air Force struck the public security headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Forces in the city of Raqqa in eastern Syria. Experts noted that it is highly unusual for Turkey to strike this deep inside Syrian territory.

On this day 87 years ago, Japanese troops slaughtered up to 300,000 Chinese in a horrific massacre that made even the Nazis tremble. “To forget a Holocaust is to kill twice,” and the “forgotten Holocaust of WWII” truly has been forgotten.

Over a period of six weeks, the Japanese terrorized the Chinese city of Nanjing in what is known as the Nanjing Massacre or the “Rape of Nanjing.” In addition to the mass murder, Japanese troops also committed other war crimes such as mass rape, looting, and arson. Up to 80,000 women were raped, and around a third of the buildings in what was then China’s capital were destroyed. Read on to learn more about this largely forgotten chapter of WW2.

“Homeland or Death!” are the famous words communist revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara said at the UN General Assembly on this day in 1964. In his speech, Che denounced US interventions worldwide and called for resistance against imperialism.

Six decades later, Che’s words remain as relevant as ever, as the Palestinian people continue their unwavering resistance against the Israeli occupation, acting on behalf of US imperialism in the Middle East.

During his first visit to Gaza in 1959, Che told Palestinian refugees that they must continue their struggle to liberate their homeland. Resisting the occupation was the only way, he said. Che admitted that their case was “complex” because the new Jewish settlers occupied their homes. “The right must eventually be restored,” he affirmed.

The Republic of Korea’s (ROK) former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun reportedly attempted suicide while in detention following last week’s brief imposition of martial law. As the case against him unfolds, a growing number of controversies have come to light.

Kim, recently arrested on insurrection charges, is accused of influencing President Yoon Suk Yeol’s decision to declare martial law. Allegations suggest he sought to justify the imposition of martial law by provoking war with the DPRK just days before.

Opposition lawmakers are citing a whistleblower to claim that the ROK military, under Kim’s orders, already sent unmanned drones to Pyongyang in October. The DPRK previously attributed the action to Seoul, which the ROK military denied.

A former classmate disclosed that Kim had a history of frequently reading Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf,” raising questions about his ideological influences.
