Happy birthday to the Italian anarchist socialist theorist and militant revolutionary Errico Malatesta! He was described by friends and foes alike as the greatest Italian revolutionary of his generation.
Malatesta led an armed insurrection with about 30 comrades in the province of Benevento, capturing two villages from the ruling monarchy in southern Italy. Due to the quick arrival of troops, the uprising was soon crushed.
Malatesta was imprisoned for 16 months before being released into exile, living in Switzerland, France, Romania, England, Argentina, the US, the Netherlands, and finally Egypt, where he organized a group of fighters to oppose the British during the Anglo-Egyptian War in 1882.
A blossoming anarchist movement in Italy and a collapsing government lured Malatesta back to his homeland in 1898, where he was soon arrested following clashes. He spent his last years working as an electrician and passed away in 1932, suffering from bronchial pneumonia.

Today, we remember the late Fred Hampton, a legendary figure in the Black Panther Party and a revolutionary Marxist-Leninist, who was assassinated by the FBI on this day in 1969.
Born in Chicago in 1948, Hampton served as the Black Panther Party’s deputy chairman and the Illinois chapter’s chair. His contributions as a prominent anti-racist figure and his commitment to multicultural organizing left a lasting impact.
Recognizing fascism as a significant threat to humanity, Hampton emphasized the critical importance of preventing its rise, believing that its impact would extend to everyone. Identified as a threat by the FBI, Hampton faced attempts to undermine his influence through the placement of spies within the Black Panthers.
Tragically, in December 1969, he was murdered in cold blood by police who were assisting the FBI during a pre-dawn raid, with 100 gunshots fired into his apartment.

A China Coast Guard vessel fired a water cannon and “sideswiped” a Philippine government vessel during a patrol in disputed South China Sea waters. Tensions between the two nations continue to escalate over territorial claims in what the Philippines calls the West Philippine Sea.
Last month, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed two laws defining the country’s maritime boundaries and imposing fixed navigation lanes for foreign vessels, prompting China to summon the Philippine ambassador in protest.
Relations further deteriorated when the Philippines and its closest ally, the US, signed a security agreement allowing both countries to share classified information. The deal intensifies inter-imperialist competition between the US and China over influence in the region.

Initially, the Belgian state argued that their forced removal was not considered a crime under colonial-era laws. The court of appeal rejected these claims, citing Belgium’s signing of the Nuremberg tribunal statutes. The court ordered the state to pay each woman €50,000 in damages and ordered the state to pay over €1 million in legal fees.
Thousands of children were subjected to forced removal and segregation under Belgium’s colonial policies across its former colonies in the Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Villagers threw mud at the Tamil Nadu state Forest Minister as he visited the area in the aftermath of Cyclone Fengal. More than 19 people have died and hundreds of thousands have been displaced across southeastern India and Sri Lanka.
Opposition politicians criticized the response of the ruling government of the Dravidian Progressive Federation in Tamil Nadu. Some have accused the officials of using the relief efforts as photo opportunities. One politician, VK Sasikala, also claimed that the state government prioritized relief to individuals based on personal affiliations.
Cyclones, like other weather-related events, are increasing in intensity due to climate change.

French taxi drivers clashed with police as the neoliberal government of Macron and Barnier push for more austerity measures. This comes as the French government is on the verge of collapse in the face of no confidence motions from the left parties.
The New Popular Front (NPF) a coalition comprised of the Socialist Party, Communist Party, Greens and others, won the recent elections. Yet, they have not been allowed to form a government as the Prime Minister’s office was handed to the conservative former EU bureaucrat Michel Barnier.
Barnier’s government is now hanging by a thread as the NPF is pushing a motion of no confidence.
