A Nazi weapons arsenal was uncovered during a house raid in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Confiscated were 43 rifles stamped with the Nazi Reichsadler emblem, 15 pistols, a machine gun, 3000 rounds of ammunition, Nazi propaganda, and more.
The raid was part of an international operation targeting weapons smuggling networks stretching across the US, Mexico, Australia, and Greece. While the potential buyers of such contraband may seem obvious, investigators are still piecing together the full case.
Argentina holds a complex historical connection to Nazism. Through the infamous “ratlines” system, Nazi war criminals fled to South America after WWII, evading prosecution for their crimes—many finding refuge in Argentina.
Starting in 1947, US intelligence agencies also exploited these ratlines, recruiting Nazi military strategists and scientists under the name “Operation Paperclip” in the emerging “Cold War” against the Soviet Union.

Tens of thousands flooded the streets of Thessaloniki to mark the anniversary of the 1973 anti-junta uprising at the Polytechnic University—an event etched in blood and defiance against Greece’s ruling military regime. Tanks tore through the university gates, crushing the rebellion in a brutal crackdown that left at least 40 protesters dead.
The uprising carried demands against imperialism and NATO influence. Its violent suppression reverberated through the decades, shaping the nation’s large anarchist movement and inspiring the now-defunct Marxist-Leninist guerrilla group, “Revolutionary Organization 17 November,” named after the uprising’s final day. Each year, a commemorative march brings the struggle back to life—often accompanied by fierce clashes in the streets.

Molotov cocktails lit up riot police as massive protests erupted at Colombia’s University of Cauca. The chaos led to multiple arrests and injuries on both sides, fueled by the explosive anger of students grappling with financial struggles.
While this is the first violent outburst at Uni Cauca in some time, it fits into a broader wave of unrest sweeping universities nationwide, all demanding similar reforms.
The situation grows more violent with every confrontation. In recent clashes, police have even resorted to firearms; though so far, there have been no fatalities.
Colombia’s first leftist government, led by Gustavo Petro, had promised sweeping reforms to ease student hardships. Petro also campaigned on disbanding ESMAD, the infamous riot police unit.
For now, though, those promises remain distant, leading to frustration among the students who were at the front of the 2021 Colombian “National Strike” uprising that propelled Petro's electoral victory in 2022.

Egyptian security forces fired tear gas and shotgun pellets to suppress protesters demonstrating against the death of 13 workers in a horrific traffic accident on the road between El Matarya and Port Said. The accident sparked anger over the poor condition of the roads and the lack of lighting, resulting from the Ministry of Transport’s decisions to reduce energy consumption.
Clashes erupted after hundreds of residents blocked the road following the accident, which occurred on Wednesday. Protesters demanded better facilities and maintenance of the road, which lacks street lamps, speed bumps, signage, or barriers to block heavy transport vehicles from using it amid the lack of safety infrastructure.

The EZLN, one of the world's most prominent social movements, was founded 41 years ago today. The guerrilla movement brought new optimism to the international left at a time when many socialist projects were being defeated.
Founded in 1983 by a group of Mexican intellectuals inspired by the Cuban Revolution, the Zapatistas took root in the struggles of various Maya peoples in the southern state of Chiapas. Their name pays homage to Emiliano Zapata, the legendary Mexican revolutionary.
The armed uprising, however, didn’t begin until January 1, 1994. On that day, thousands of indigenous supporters of the EZLN seized towns and villages across Chiapas. Their aim: to oppose the newly enacted NAFTA, which they see as a sellout of their land.
12 days of intense clashes followed, ended in a ceasefire. The Zapatistas retreated into the dense Lacandon Jungle near the Guatemalan border. From there, they forged a bold experiment in resistance: a de facto autonomous zone in eastern Chiapas.
