On this day in 1918, revolutionary communist leader Karl Liebknecht declared Germany a Free Socialist Republic, saying “the day of the revolution has come.”
Inspired by the Bolshevik Revolution a year earlier, Germany’s uprising encompassed hundreds of thousands of workers, women, and soldiers. Many soldiers deserted the front after being fed up with being used as canon fodder by the rich.
The monarchy was abolished and workers’ councils swept the country. Women voted for the first time in German history.
Within weeks, the Social Democratic Party, which today rules Germany, collaborated with the paramilitary Freikorps to crush the revolution. They even bombed workers who participated in a general strike across Berlin. Leading members of the Freikorps were early Nazi Party members and the Freikorps itself would later be dissolved into the Nazi Party's paramilitary wing, the Sturmabteilung.

On this day in 1989 the destruction of the the Berlin Wall began, or the Anti-fascist Wall as it was known in the GDR. While the GDR built the wall with the support of the USSR, US imperialism and former Nazis created the conditions that led to its construction.

🟡 NEW: German police arrest internationally-wanted “High-Profile” Anti-Fascist in Thuringia. The man is accused of leading a group responsible for planning and carrying out attacks on fascists.
He is allegedly connected to the same group as Lina E., who is now in custody. Lina E. was sentenced to over five years in prison in 2023 for organizing similar attacks. The sentence sparked intense protests across Leipzig.
While Germany’s police intensify crackdowns on anti-fascists, leftists, and especially pro-Palestine activists, far-right crimes in the country continue to surge. Government records show that, as of 2023, at least 4,248 left-wing offenses were documented—while there were about 25,000 documented right-wing crimes.
Germany’s police force remains deeply infiltrated by far-right elements. Earlier this year, officials acknowledged that around 400 officers were identified as right-wing extremists. The real number is likely far higher.
The US Democrats ran the worst campaign in history, combining social liberalism with economic and foreign policy fascism, Nick Cruse of Revolutionary Blackout Network tells red. media.

Kurds continue to pour into the streets to protest the Turkish government’s appointment of unelected municipality trustees. For the fourth consecutive day, protesters in the Batman district are demanding the reinstatement of the elected officials belonging to the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party.
During the protests, clashes erupted in multiple cities where Turkish forces deployed water canon trucks. Protesters barricaded the streets and used fireworks to confront them.

French resistance fighter, poet, journalist, and lifelong communist Madeleine Riffaud passed away yesterday at 100 years old. At 19 years old, she killed a Nazi in the middle of the streets in Paris. She was arrested, tortured, and narrowly escaped execution. She later commanded a unit that helped liberate Paris.
Riffaud went on to become one of France’s first anti-colonial activists, reporting on the Algerian and Vietnamese liberation wars. She survived an assassination attempt by the Organisation Armée Secrète (a far-right paramilitary group opposed to Algerian independence).
