The ruling AKP party in Türkiye ousted three elected mayors from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) and installed “state-appointed trustees,” according to the Interior Ministry. This isn’t the first time such a move was made; similar actions have unfolded over the past few years. Even mayors from the main opposition party, CHP, aren’t immune to these power plays. Ongoing protests erupted soon after, especially in heavily Kurdish-populated areas, which saw heavy police crackdowns.

The “democratic socialist” opposition party, Podemos, claims it won 53% of the vote and has submitted a 100-page legal challenge to the results. On October 19, a lawyer Elvino Dias and a Podemos official, Paulo Guambe, were shot dead. They were reportedly helping to prepare the legal challenge to the election.

Salvador Allende was sworn in as President of Chile on this day in 1970. His presidency represented the attempt to establish a socialist society via parliamentary means in defiance of US influence.
The main focus of Allende’s policy during his presidency from 1970 to 1973 was the expropriation of essential pillars of the economy, such as mineral resources and large foreign companies and banks. By the end of 1971, the socialist government had taken control of more than 150 companies.
But Allende’s experiment in building socialism in Chile was crushed by a fascist coup led by Augusto Pinochet and backed by the US in 1973. Pinochet’s brutal rule lasted for nearly two decades, and over 40,000 people were tortured, killed, or disappeared.
🟡 Watch our documentary to uncover the factors that led to this pivotal moment in shaping Latin America's history. Was Allende a revolutionary, or merely a reformist trying to change a reactionary system through reforms? Watch Chile 1973: Reform or Revolution? here.

Читать полностью…The US military has made its first confirmed purchase from OpenAI for its actively fighting forces with the mission of killing, The Intercept revealed in one of its investigations. The top AI company is being increasingly embedded within the US establishment.
The company behind ChatGPT has sold cloud computing services to the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) under its $9 billion Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract. AFRICOM calls access to OpenAI’s technology “essential” for its mission.
The move highlights OpenAI’s steady shift towards doing business with the Pentagon since it quietly deleted the portion of its terms of service that prohibited its use for “military and warfare” purposes earlier this year.
The automation of the US military will likely translate to a lot more recklessness and “collateral damage” in its warfare, Africa apparently serving as the US military’s “testing ground” for such technology.
