Julian Assange confirms that the CIA had plans to assassinate him in the Ecuadorian embassy. He also said they targeted his family, with the CIA surveilling his wife Stella Assange and planning to extract DNA from his baby son’s nappy. This came at a time when Assange was exposing US cyberwarfare, which included the manipulation of personal electronic devices such as smart TVs and iPhones.
Assange emphatically stated that his release does not represent justice, but rather reflects his “confession” to the crime of journalism.

Japan elected a new Prime Minister. Shigeru Ishiba, leader of Japan’s ruling right-wing Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), will be the country’s new PM. Here’s what you need to know about him.
Ishiba is a member of Nippon Kaigi, Japan’s largest ultra-nationalist, far-right NGO and lobbying group. Among other things, the group maintains that prosecution of Japanese war criminals post WWII is a “fundamental problem.”
The former defense minister and self-described “military geek” aims to significantly expand Japan’s military standing in the region. He is Japan’s foremost proponent of an “Asian NATO” aimed against China and the DPRK amid rising tensions.
Regardless of whether Ishiba’s hawkish plans to change Japan come to fruition or not, his obsession with “Japanese security” may prove to only further raise tensions in the region.

The networks of solidarity with Palestine were activated this time to oppose Israel’s massacres in Beirut. The protests saw the waving of the Lebanese flag and in many places the flag of Hezbollah and portraits of its late leader, Nasrallah.

German police are raiding the houses of pro-Palestine activists in Berlin. At least five houses have been searched by the State Criminal Police Office so far during which the police confiscated phones, laptops, and other electronic devices. This is just the latest incident in the crackdown on activists protesting Israeli aggression.
The raids come as the genocide in Gaza is approaching one year and as Israel expands its brutal attacks to Lebanon and Yemen. Berlin has a large Arab immigrant community, and many have continued protests despite facing police brutality.
Scenes of German police brutality have shocked the world. Last week, a video of police chasing and arresting an 11-year-old child for holding a Palestinian flag caused outrage and calls for an investigation.

Happy birthday to the socialist revolutionary Samora Machel, who led the independence war against Portuguese colonialism! The first President of Mozambique was in charge of the Marxist-Leninist Mozambique Liberation Front, which declared independence on June 25, 1975.
Mozambique's anti- colonial struggle was met with brutal Portuguese counterinsurgency methods, including "Operation Gordian Knot," 1970 using napalm and wiping out entire villages. However, Portuguese colonialism was eventually defeated across Africa.
After independence, Machel nationalized many institutions and supported liberation struggles in Rhodesia and South Africa.
In 1981, the CIA plotted to assassinate Machel and was accused by the Mozambican government of preparing to back a coup. In 1986 he was killed in a suspicious plane crash in South Africa, which many believe was orchestrated by the racist South African apartheid government.

On this day in 1971, Founder Huey Newton and chairwoman Elaine Brown of the Black Panther Party (BPP) embarked on a historic delegation to revolutionary China, invited by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Black revolutionaries saw China as a beacon of socialism while the Soviet Union rolled out capitalist reforms.
The Black Panthers toured the country and met with China’s first premier, Zhou Enlai, to discuss the CCP’s support for Black American revolutionaries. Newton later revealed that he had been offered political asylum because he had been politically persecuted, had been released from prison on bail, and was facing a third trial upon his return. “But,” he wrote, “I told them I had to return, that my struggle is in the United States of America.”
The Chinese Revolution served as the source of the BPP’s ideology, leading them to adopt and adapt the CCP's principles. The BPP became one of the first and most important organizations to synthesize Mao's ideas internationally.

Today marks the 75th anniversary of Chairman Mao Zedong, the leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), proclaiming the foundation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). He stated that the “cannonballs of the October Revolution” had “brought Marxism” to China.
China’s 800 million citizens rose, and through the development of socialism, China reached a pivotal moment in humanity’s deliberate march toward communism. Following Mao’s death in 1976, emerging bourgeois elements within the party executed a coup d’état and reinstated capitalism under the direction of Deng Xiaoping and his successors, who continue to govern China today.
One of Mao’s notable concluding remarks was: “If China’s leadership is usurped by the revisionists in the future, the Marxist-Leninists of all countries must relentlessly expose them, fight them, and assist the Chinese masses in their struggle against the revisionists.”

Albanian opposition party members set wooden chairs ablaze in front of parliament to protest what they called a politically motivated imprisonment. A right-wing Democratic Party politician was sentenced for using a fake video to allege a minister was a criminal.
The Democratic Party has accused the ruling liberal “Socialist Party” of monopolizing power. They claim that anti-corruption investigations have been selectively conducted only on opposition politicians, not those of the ruling party.
The largest opposition party, the Refoundation Democratic Party, has in the past year been trying to physically prevent the ruling party from functioning in government. The Socialist Party often had to hold meetings online to avoid violent clashes in parliament.
A protest and blockade of the capital, Tirana, have been organized for October 7.

“We will cripple you” — Longshoreman Union President said before tens of thousands of dockworkers walked off the job. 14 US ports will be affected by the strike, sprawling up and down the eastern seaboard. Estimates say each strike day will amount to $5 billion in losses.
The ports striking include: Boston, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wilmington, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, Mobile, New Orleans, and Houston. They handle more than half of imports to the US and more than three-quarters of exports.
Workers are striking over wages and automation. The US Maritime Alliance, representing the logistics companies bargaining with the union, offered an annual wage increase of 10%. The union rejected this offer, calling it “stingy.” Workers also call for protection against the encroachment of automation, which they say is replacing workers.

The people targeted not only included communists and their alleged sympathizers but extended to feminists and ethnic and religious minorities. In the first speech following the assassination of Hezbollah’s General-Secretary, the party’s deputy secretary, Naim Qassem emphasized their resolve and steadfastness. He assured supporters that the group’s capabilities are still far from destroyed, and that the group will continue on the path of resistance until victory.
Qasem said that a new leader will be chosen soon and that the group is “one heart.” Hezbollah has suffered big losses in recent weeks following Israel brutal attacks and assassinations. However, it continues to attack the Israeli military in support of Gaza.

The death toll from Israel’s aerial offensive on Lebanon has exceeded 1,000 with 6,000 people injured. Following the assassination of late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Israel has continued to relentlessly shell Lebanon. It has hit central Beirut for the first time since 2006. Meanwhile, as many as one million people, a fifth of Lebanon’s population, have been displaced in a matter of days.
