The Black Panther Party was founded on this day in 1966. Listen to founder Bobby Seale lay out the party’s original 10-point program, a list of demands for Black liberation. The Black Panther Party organized the oppressed by providing public services, using their Second Amendment right to bear arms, and advocating for socialism and national liberation. In doing so, they shocked the US government, which undertook a campaign of repression that included infiltration and sabotage from the FBI.

On this day in 1987, African revolutionary Thomas Sankara was killed in a Western-backed coup. After becoming President of Burkina Faso in 1983, he became a symbol of African liberation. He implemented a program influenced by Marxism-Leninism, pan-Africanism, and women’s liberation. However, forces within the state collaborated with Western powers to overthrow Sankara and roll back the societal gains that had been won up until 1987.

🟡 NOW: US gives Israel 30 days to “resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza” or face an arms embargo. This comes after 42,000+ Palestinians have been slaughtered and just a few weeks before a contested election in which Palestine has been a defining issue.

As Israel’s all-out war on Lebanon surpasses two weeks, Hezbollah Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem delivered a speech. Here are our key highlights from the speech:
🟡 “Israel is a monster. We are the ones committed to reining in this monster and confining it to its cage.”
🟡 “Our role is no longer limited to supporting Palestine; now we are on a new battlefield called enemy’s pain.“
🟡 “We have demonstrated that we can strike anywhere in the territories occupied by Israel. The only solution is a ceasefire. If the war continues, everyone in Israel will be in danger. “
🟡 “We began two weeks ago to start with this balance of confrontations at the border, [...]. Honestly, what our brothers achieved in the field in the last two weeks was much better than what we and our fighters had expected [...]. The main objective of the resistance is to follow the Israeli occupation and to pursue them wherever they enter.”
Supporters of Evo Morales in Bolivia have begun a strike calling for the resignation of President Luis Arce. Protesters have erected barricades to block roads around the region of Cochabamba. The strike has not spread to the rest of the country so far.
The strike is the result of the factional fight within the Movement Towards Socialism Party. The government seeks to ban Evo Morales from competing for the presidency in next year’s election. There are fears that Morales could be arrested this week, which was the trigger for the current mobilizations.
The government says that the strike is a failure because it has not spread beyond the Cochabamba region. Morales supporters say that this is an indefinite strike, with other regions joining in the coming days.

Today marks the 61s anniversary of Yemen's October Revolution of 1963. This revolution evolved into a four-year armed struggle between the National Liberation Front, the country's largest anti-colonial movement, and the British Empire. It resulted in the permanent expulsion of British military forces from Yemen and the dismantling of the crown colony of Aden. The last colonial soldier left Yemen on November 30, 1967, paving the way for the official proclamation of the People's Republic of South Yemen. In 1969, it became the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, the only Marxist-Leninist state to have ever existed in the Arab world.

“Endless war, profits soar, arms embargo now!” Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) activists chained themselves to the doors of the New York Stock Exchange calling for an end to the genocide in Palestine. New York Police mass arrested the activists and threatened a journalist wearing a press pass for filming the action.
The protest lands on Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Christopher Columbus Day in the US. JVP stated: “we pay homage to the movements that have fought against genocides Wall Street has always profited from, since its founding as a market of enslaved people kidnapped from Africa by settlers who carried out genocide against Indigenous people.”
Since the beginning of the genocide, Wall Street has profited immensely from its investments in weapons manufacturers. The market value of Lockheed Martin increased by 54% and General Dynamics by 37%, two of the biggest arms producers.

🟡 NEW: Rural communities in Colombia kicked out the military right in the middle of a large-scale army operation against the FARC-EP guerrillas in El Plateado, Cauca. This relatively big and remote town, long seen as a bastion of the guerrilla forces, remains firmly under the control of the Carlos Patiño Front. Reports indicate the guerrilla forces evacuated the town before the military arrived.

“There are more gangs in Chicago than in Haiti” — listen to Dr. Jemima Pierre break down how the US manufactures consent for its military occupation of the country. She explains how Western media paints Haiti as a crime-ridden, violent place that requires foreign intervention for its own salvation. In reality, the US seeks to subjugate Haiti for its own purposes, including to fight a looming imperialist war against China.

Indian revolutionary and professor Dr. G.N. Saibaba has passed away. He died from medical complications resulting from his imprisonment and torture by the fascist Indian government.
Saibaba was an outspoken critic of the Indian government and grew to prominence for his opposition to the campaigns to displace Indigenous Adivasis for corporate plunder.
In 2014, Saibaba was arrested under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for alleged links to the Communist Party of India (Maoist). He was charged based solely on the testimony of dozens of police officers. While imprisoned, Saibaba continued writing and speaking out against injustice from the confines of his cell.
In March 2024, Saibaba was acquitted of all charges and was just beginning to enjoy his freedom. The state may have killed him, but the revolution he supported continues. Read red. media’s exclusive interview with CPI (Maoist) party spokesperson Amrut to learn more about the revolution in India.

In a further decline of inter-Korean relations, the Korean People’s Army of the DPRK destroyed two roads connecting the Korean peninsula across the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Last week, the DPRK government pledged to destroy these roads as part of an effort to “prevent war.”
Alejandro Cao De Benós, the only foreign national authorized to speak on behalf of the DPRK government, stated that the action was in response to drones dropping anti-DPRK propaganda leaflets over the country, including the capital, Pyongyang.
Data going back to May shows that defector-led groups in the Republic of Korea (ROK) have launched anti-DPRK propaganda leaflets at least 51 times, a sharp increase compared to the prior period.
Despite the growing severity of the crisis, the ROK government refuses to take action regarding the defector groups’ balloon launches. It states that they fall under “freedom of expression.” Experts suspect that the government could actually be instigating the launches.

A German court ruled that the Neo-Nazi Julian V., a former soldier and accomplice of the far-right Reichsbürger movement, did not act out of conviction when he planned to supply the movement with large quantities of weapons.
The far-right Reichsbürger movement has been plaguing Germany for some time, with a number of terrorist groups that aim to violently topple Germany’s government. One such group are the “United Patriots”, which Julian V. was found guilty of supporting.
Julian V. diligently shared content glorifying the Waffen SS, Wehrmacht, the Croatian Ustaša, and the infamous far-right German terrorist group “NSU”, among other things. If he did not act out of “political conviction,” then it appears fascism is “not political” in Germany.
To no surprise, Julian V. isn’t the first to get away with a suspended sentence. Several other trials are ongoing as Germany claims to combat the movement. However, outcomes like these leave one asking if these proceedings are just a charade.

In Kolkata, India, several doctors have been hospitalized after participating in a hunger strike demanding justice for the junior doctor who was raped and murdered in August. The indefinite hunger strike started on October 4 and is projected to continue, given the state’s inaction. Five hunger strikers have been hospitalized so far.
On Monday, 12 doctors’ associations met with West Bengal’s Chief Secretary Manog Pant. The main demands include the immediate removal of Health Secretary N.S. Nigam and enhanced security in hospitals, including implementing CCTV. The Secretary rejected the demand to provide a timeline for these measures.
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee at state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital was violently raped and murdered after she went to rest in between shifts. Since then, doctors have gone on strike and refused to perform non-emergency procedures. Protests in the city have been ongoing and are projected to continue, given the latest developments.

Chile's Indigenous Mapuche movement faced repression yesterday at the hands of President Boric’s centrist government. In a march calling for the release of Mapuche political prisoners, police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the mobilization.
Boric’s government has ignored the historic demands of the Mapuche nation. They call for an end to land theft and militarization of their territory (known as Wallmapu). Some hoped that the possibility of a new constitution would help address these issues. However, Boric scrapped the constituent process early in his presidency, opting to maintain the Pinochet-era constitution.
