As the UN General Assembly debate begins, we remind you of Arafat’s historic speech to the body on November 13, 1974. The speech represented a key turning point in the organization’s approach to the Palestinian liberation struggle. It marked a shift towards a diplomatic and conciliatory approach to the occupation. Today, the Palestinian masses largely reject “peace” with the Zionist occupation and support armed resistance.

As part of their colonial occupation, Israel has been cutting down olive trees due to their association with Palestinian culture. They replace them with imported pine trees, thus transforming the olive branch into a symbol of Palestinian resistance. The olive branch is also widely associated with a peace offering. Through the metaphor of an olive branch in one hand and a freedom fighter’s gun in the other, Arafat warned that if diplomatic efforts to achieve peace failed, Palestinians would be forced to continue to take up arms.

A six-day long march led by Evo Morales ended in street battles with supporters of President Luis Arce. Our exclusive images from the ground show the two sides within the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) party once again engaged in violent clashes.

While many expected clashes and repression during the march itself, Morales’ mobilization was able to reach its final point in La Paz without incident. In fact, they were greeted along the route by local residents.

The final rally ended in a promise of a national strike within a week. The strike will go forward if the government continues to block the registration of Morales’ candidacy and if other demands around economic measures aren’t met.

However, as the march dispersed, a masked-up group began launching explosives, including fireworks and dynamite, at those leaving the march. Clashes ensued while the police looked on.

The factional fight over who will be the presidential candidate of the MAS party next year rumbles on.

At least 274 people have been killed and 1,024 injured as Israeli strikes continue to pound Lebanon. Those killed include 21 children, 39 women and two medics as the Israeli bombing has targeted homes, medical centers, ambulances and cars of people trying to flee, Lebanon’s health minister Firass Abiad said.

Israel conducted about 400 air raids on dozens of Lebanese towns within just a couple of hours. The Israeli military announced it was “systematically broadening” its strikes against Hezbollah. As a result, Lebanon is left panic-stricken, with scores of Lebanese fleeing the bombing in southern Lebanon.

“The sheer amount of firepower that’s used today might be unprecedented in the wars that Israel has conducted against Lebanon,” said Jamal Ghosn, a Beirut-based political commentator and writer.

Heavy Israeli bombs rained down on Lebanon as Israeli forces conducted dozens of strikes in the south and east. Several Lebanese towns were hit. Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported more than 80 strikes, with at least one person killed.

In a first and akin to the Israeli military’s displacement orders in Gaza, the Israeli military has told people in Lebanon to move away from what it called “Hezbollah targets” as it said it would carry out more intensive strikes.

The strikes come after Hezbollah said it is entering a “battle of reckoning” in the new phase of fighting with Israel. It warned that “the conflict has widened and could further intensify.”

With the Israeli army not ruling out a ground incursion into Lebanon, tensions remain at an all-time high.

Up to 1.2 million people died after then-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein attacked neighboring Iran on this day in 1980. Saddam feared the young Islamic Revolution in Iran might spill over into his country. The war was backed by billions of dollars and intelligence from Washington. The war is especially characterized by Iraq’s inhumane use of chemical weapons and countless massacres against the civilian population, all with the knowledge of the US, which deliberately looked the other way.

🟡 NOW: Israeli soldiers stormed into Al Jazeera’s Ramallah office, guns drawn, during a live broadcast from the occupied West Bank. In full military gear, they broke into the newsroom and ordered an evacuation with a 10-hour deadline, followed by a 45-day closure order.

Al Jazeera reported that the masked soldiers stayed silent on the reason for their intrusion. This wasn’t a one-off raid, but rather the latest chapter in Israel’s ongoing crackdown on the news network, which has long faced a ban on operating in Israeli-occupied areas.

Berlin police chased down a young boy waving a Palestinian flag, ultimately arresting him. Footage shows the distraught-looking boy being taken away by a large number of riot police at the edge of a pro-Palestine protest in the German capital.

Berlin, in particular, has become notorious for its heavy-handed response to pro-Palestine protests. This is far from the first instance of police using violence against children.

Censorship is shifting tactics, and now it’s targeting our financial veins.

Just a week ago, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken lied about us being state media, even urging to fight us “like foreign agents.”Media giants swiftly fell in line. Like clockwork, META and YouTube shut down our pages.

Now, in a seemingly synchronized assault, the financial service Stripe has cut off our donations through “BuyMeACoffee” and “X,” while YouTube has seized our streaming revenue.

Let’s be clear: the US government has long poured vast sums into both domestic and foreign propaganda. However, this latest wave of censorship indicates a trend toward more aggressive crackdowns against journalism as the US narrative is crumbling under the weight of its own imperialistic consequences.

At least 492 people have been killed in the deadliest day Lebanon has seen since the country’s 1975-90 civil war. 1,645 people have also been injured as a result of Israel’s unprecedented aerial offensive on the country.

In response, Hezbollah and other resistance groups have launched hundreds of rockets at several Israeli military positions in occupied Palestine, including Haifa, Nazareth, and Afula. Local Israeli media have reported several impacts of the strikes, including fires breaking out. The Israeli military claims to have intercepted most of the launches and says that there have been no casualties.

The Israeli military’s chief of staff announced that his forces are preparing for the next phase of their Lebanon operation. They will now focus on dismantling the “combat infrastructure that Hezbollah has been developing over the past 20 years.”

After surviving the oppressive heat of the summer, Palestinians in Gaza are now facing torrential rain and flooding. Dozens of families have been displaced due to the severity of the flooding after the Khan Younis municipality warned that their lives were endangered.

Central Gaza authorities also launched a call to action for displaced Palestinians sheltering in low-lying regions who are at risk of drowning.

Displaced Palestinians are trying unsuccessfully to prevent water from ruining their belongings, food, and shelter in makeshift tents that are not designed to serve as long-term housing. Due to the continued Israeli siege and genocide, Palestinians are purposely being deprived of the proper resources to manage the floods.

The UN warned that the flooding would further exacerbate the poor sanitation conditions in Gaza. The accumulation of waste and the spread of insects, mosquitoes, and rats have significantly increased the risk of disease.

Berlin’s mayor denied Israel’s genocide in Gaza, saying “it’s not happening.” Mayor Kai Wegner gave this response to a question at a public meeting about why Israeli flags are flying in front of the Berlin City Hall during Israel’s war of extermination.

Earlier this year, Wegner visited Israeli-occupied Palestine to participate in a government-led propaganda tour in Tel Aviv. He has also approved the Berlin police’s violent crackdowns on student protests at local universities.

A curfew has been imposed by France in parts of Fort-de-France, the capital of the French colony Martinique. This comes in response to protests against the escalating cost of living crisis on the Caribbean island.

Protesters, frustrated by food prices that are 30-50% higher than in mainland France, have engaged in looting, roadblocks, and violent confrontations with law enforcement. The unrest reflects widespread anger at the lack of action to alleviate economic hardships.

The French government has also deployed a controversial specialized police unit, CRS 8, which has not been seen in Martinique since 1959. This decision has stirred up memories of colonial repression.

These protests underscore the deep inequalities between Martinique and mainland France, with the island’s predominantly Black population facing significant economic disparities. Many residents feel neglected by the French state, heightening calls for urgent reforms and justice.

Today marks Mali’s Independence Day. The West African country gained independence in 1960 after nearly 60 years of French rule. Mali is one of the epicenters of the new wave of anti-French uprisings around the Sahel and once again overthrew its government with close ties to France in a coup in 2021.

Why is Africa being shaken by one coup after another? A look at the overlap between the coup-torn countries and France’s colonial past on the continent quickly reveals a pattern.

Systematic underdevelopment through colonial occupation, as well as the continuous imperialist exploitation of Africa, has left an entire continent destabilized. Over 214 coup attempts or successful coups have occurred in Africa since 1950, a significant proportion of the 486 coups or coup attempts that have happened worldwide over the last 73 years, according to figures from US universities.

New images reveal the brutal aftermath in Beirut, Lebanon, as first responders and desperate survivors pull bodies from the ruins of yet another Israeli airstrike.

The Lebanese Health Ministry confirms at least 17 dead, with scores more clinging to life despite severe injuries.

This marks the third day of Israel’s assault on the packed capital—home to 2.3 million people. The death toll over the last three days is near 60, with thousands wounded and counting.

Despite the increasingly aggressive attacks, Hezbollah has so far resisted full-blown retaliation. Yet Israel seems intent on stoking total war.
