Western media has a long history of misconstrued coverage of the African continent. Watch this speech by pan-African leader Thomas Sankara, who 40 years ago criticized the way Western media seeks to divide Africans for imperialist interests.

Sankara, President of Burkina Faso from 1983 to 1987, argued that the imperialist attacks had two phases: a nonviolent phase followed by a violent one. The nonviolent phase will seek to discredit countries that oppose imperialism before eventually launching violent attacks to overthrow anyone who dares to oppose them.

Happy birthday to legendary Black Panther and revolutionary Marxist-Leninist Fred Hampton! Born in Chicago in 1948, Hampton became deputy chairman of the Black Panther Party and chair of the Illinois chapter. He was one of the most prominent anti-racists of his era, fighting against white supremacy through multicultural organizing. Hampton helped found the Young Patriots, which organized poor whites, and the Young Lords, which involved organizing Puerto Ricans.

In December 1969 he was brutally murdered by police who drugged him and then shot him in his bed during a pre-dawn raid. Police fired 100 gunshots into his apartment.

Watch Fred Hampton explain how those in power in capitalist societies use racism to maintain their rule by dividing the working class and oppressed people. At a time of massive inequality and the increasing rise of far-right racism, his message is still incredibly important.

A 10-month-old baby has become the first confirmed case of polio in Gaza in 25 years. red. media spoke to the baby’s mother. According to her, her son is now partially paralyzed due to the disease and in urgent need of medical treatment outside of Gaza. Meanwhile, Israel refuses to halt its genocidal war on the enclave.

At the end of last month, Gaza’s Health Ministry officially declared a polio epidemic after finding it in sewage samples. The ministry blamed Israel’s continued war of annihilation for the re-emergence of the deadly virus which was previously eradicated in Gaza. Due to Israeli attacks on the enclave’s water systems, the already scarce drinking water supplies are at risk of being contaminated by the virus.

The World Health Organization said it was sending more than one million polio vaccines to Gaza. However, the lack of humanitarian access into and throughout the enclave due to Israel’s unabated attacks has prevented the vaccines from reaching the people in need.

The Communist Party of Kenya publicly apologized to the people of Haiti for its invasion of Haiti on behalf of the US. The spokesperson states that the people of Haiti are now being subjected to the same violence Kenyans experienced at the hands of the police at home.

In June 2024, Kenyan police were sent to “restore order” to the gang-controlled country. Massive protests spread across Haiti earlier this year, calling on the US-backed Ariel Henry to resign. Armed gangs then exploited the power vacuum that followed and currently control about 85% of the capital, Port-au-Prince.

In the first six months of 2024, five children a week were killed or injured in Haiti, totaling 131 children. More than 600,000 Haitians have been displaced and become homeless due to gang violence. NGO Save the Children warned that given the track record of the Kenyan forces, the invasion would likely only lead to more violence and suffering.

Israeli occupation forces have launched a new military operation across the West Bank in a new attempt to crush the resistance. The operation started at dawn and targeted refugee camps in the West Bank. While most of the the raids ending within a few hours, the raids in the cities of Jenin and Tulkarem are still ongoing.

At least nine Palestinian were killed, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The Israeli forces also continue to besiege the four main hospitals in Jenin and Tulkarem. By preventing treatment of injured people, they are effectively causing more casualties. This is similar to their policy of attacking health facilities in Gaza.

The refugee camps across the West Bank have been a hub of resistance and have experienced painful attacks from the invading Israeli forces. With limited resources, the fighters have developed their tools and tactics from only firearms. With these modest means, they’ve developed explosives used to ambush Israeli military vehicles.

On this day 57 years ago, German communist guerrilla Tamara Bunke, also known by her nom de guerre Tania, was shot dead by CIA-backed Bolivian military forces. She was en route to meet up with Che Guevara's revolutionary troops of the “National Liberation Army.”

Bunke was born in Argentina to communist parents who fled the Nazi regime. When the GDR was founded, the family returned to Germany to participate in the construction of socialism.

Trough her parents, Bunke met several Latin American revolutionaries. One of which was Che Guevara—a meeting that would change the course of her life. Drawn to the cause, she later traveled to Latin America and participated in Cuban-led operations aimed at liberating the region from US imperialism.

In Bolivia, Bunke initially operated as a spy before joining Che Guevara’s guerrilla army. At just 29 years old, she was killed in an ambush by the CIA-backed Bolivian army on August 31, 1967.

Watch the Egyptian revolutionary and Arab nationalist icon Gamal Abdel Nasser passionately explain the necessity of international solidarity in the fight against colonialism.

In his fiery 1967 speech, Nasser proudly declared that while Egypt had “successfully expelled colonialism,” their mission was far from over. Egyptians would continue to stand firm against colonialism in “every Arab nation.”

He asserted that Egypt was deeply involved in the global struggle against colonial domination, even if their role was confined to offering “moral solidarity” to those still battling for their nation’s freedom.

Today marks the anniversary of Leila Khaled’s audacious, bloodless hijacking—a mission carried out in the name of the Palestinian liberation struggle. Khaled was not only the first woman to lead such an operation, but she also executed it with meticulous precision.

Palestinian liberation groups recognized the potential to thrust their cause into the global spotlight by exploiting the vulnerabilities of air travel—a tactic that, in a post-9/11 world, is nearly unimaginable. These hijackings left the international media with no choice but to cover the realities of Israeli colonialism and the hijacker’s motivations, the fight for a free Palestine.

On this day 66 years ago, a vicious series of racist attacks were launched on the Black Caribbean population of London’s Notting Hill area. The most recent pogroms that have shaken the UK are hauntingly reminiscent of that dark period.

In 1958, local Black men responded to the pogroms by defending their community, standing against the terror that the authorities refused to acknowledge. In 2002, documents were released confirming that the police had deliberately downplayed the racist nature of the violence.

In the aftermath of the riots, efforts by the fascist Oswald Mosley to exploit the unrest failed. Instead, a powerful symbol of resistance emerged: The Notting Hill Carnival, organized by Caribbean communist Claudia Jones. Read on.

Clashes between Argentinian retirees and police erupted in the South American country’s capital, Buenos Aires. The retirees took to the streets to protest ultra-neoliberal President Javier Milei’s veto of a newly passed pension reform.

With an inflation rate of a whopping 263.4%, Argentina continues to grapple with a crippling inflation crisis. To compensate for this, the country’s senate passed a pension bill to raise retirement benefits by over 8%. The new law also guarantees that the minimum pension will be enough to afford essential goods for the elderly who are facing severe levels of poverty.

Milei, convinced that lawmakers only seek to break his austerity program, announced that he would fully veto the new pension bill. “I will veto everything, I don’t give a damn,” Milei previously said, insisting on standing by his administration’s zero fiscal deficit policy.

Protests in the Indian state of West Bengal turned violent as major clashes between police and protesters erupted. The wave of protests over the rape and murder of a female junior doctor earlier this month in Kolkata continues. Protesters are demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The far-right Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main opposition party to the chief minister’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) party in West Bengal, has largely co-opted the protests. The party has called for a 12-hour bandh (general strike) in the state to protest alleged police atrocities against protesters. Meanwhile, police accuse the BJP of trying to orchestrate large-scale violence.

During the 12-hour bandh, reports of clashes between BJP and TMC workers have sprung up. BJP leader Priyangu Pandey was shot at, with bombs hurled at the car he was traveling in. Pandey claims the incident was an attack by TMC workers in a joint conspiracy with the police.

Kenya’s political elite is trying to criminalize protests. The government is currently considering a bill that would give the police official authority to ban and crush protests, imposing fines and jail sentences for protesters.

Due to the recent uprising, the government was forced to scrap the Finance Bill, an IMF plan that would have significantly raised the cost of living. During the protests in June, more than 50 people were shot dead by the police and many more were abducted, with some people still missing.

While the Finance Bill was officially scrapped, Kenya’s top court suspended the ruling that denounced the bill as unconstitutional. This has sparked fears amongst Kenyans that the government will try to implement the law again. Nevertheless, Kenyans have said they will take to the streets should such an event occur.
