German media companies are profiting from the theft and sale of Palestinian land to Israeli settlers. Despite being internationally recognized as illegal, these settlements are big business, and German media is getting their cut.

This iconic picture of an anti-fascist resistance fighter in Catalonia was taken 88 years ago today. The picture is of the 17-year-old communist Marina Ginestà during the Spanish Civil War in 1936, just three days after the military uprising of fascist general Franco against the socialist Second Republic. During the time of the picture, Marina was a member of the “Socialist Youth,” mainly directed by the Communist Party of Spain. As the war broke out, she served as a reporter and a translator assisting Mikhail Koltsov, a correspondent of the Soviet newspaper Pravda.

Happy birthday to Afro-Caribbean anti-colonial revolutionary Frantz Fanon! When he died at the young age of 36, his words had already inspired liberation movements worldwide.
Fanon was born 99 years ago in the former French colony of Martinique, part of the West Indies. Later, as a psychiatrist, Fanon analyzed the psychopathology structure of the colonial system and worked closely with the Algerian National Liberation Front, which fought against French colonial rule.
His flagship work, “The Wretched of the Earth,” became a classic of anti-colonial literature. Fanon's central argument was that the colonized needed to fight against their oppressors with all the means at their disposal.
In chapter one, Fanon wrote, "Colonialism is not a thinking machine, nor a body endowed with reasoning faculties. It is violence in its natural state and will only yield when confronted with greater violence.”

At least two people were killed and over a dozen wounded when Pakistani forces allegedly opened fire on protesters. Upwards of 10,000 people took to the streets in the city of Bannu against the government’s latest military operation in the region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
KP province, which borders Afghanistan, has seen a surge in violence in recent weeks, not least due to the military’s latest campaign purportedly aimed at countering violence and rooting out local militants along the border with Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s powerful military, which analysts say holds large sway over the government, has been conducting military operations in the area for years. A clearance operation launched against the country’s Taliban in 2014 has displaced hundreds of thousands and destroyed countless homes and businesses. It has thus far failed to bring peace to the border region and has instead triggered wide discontent among the local population.

The Israeli parliament’s resolution against recognizing the Palestinian state adds a new chapter to the darkest periods in Israel’s history. A staggering 89% of the Knesset voted in favor of this resolution, labeling Palestine as “an existential danger.”
This resolution poses an undeniable reality check for Western countries that continue to advocate for a two-state solution, standing in direct opposition to Israel’s position on the matter. However, for the occupied territories, it’s nothing more than the “new-old,” with Israel never respecting the 1993 Oslo Accords, occupying more and more land in the West Bank ever since.
The Knesset debate saw extraordinary scenes, with Aida Touma-Sliman calling on international states to recognize the Palestinian state, condemning Israel’s “fascist, crazy government” and its “colonialism and apartheid.” Her speech was met with interruptions and walkouts by other Knesset members.

Riots erupted last night in the working-class neighborhood of Harehills in the city of Leeds, UK. The local community attacked police, destroyed their cars and set fires in the area.
The incident began after police confiscated five Roma children from their family over alleged safety concerns. One of the children was admitted to a hospital with an injury.
The parents say that the injury was not due to mistreatment, and the rest of the local community quickly rallied against the authorities.
Harehills is one of the poorest areas of the country, hit hard by more than a decade of austerity measures. Roma communities have emphasized that their children are more likely than others to be separated by social services due to the discrimination they face.
Far-right accounts in the US and Europe immediately pounced on the situation, claiming that “Muslims” and “immigrants” were behind the clashes, and thereby whipping up racism.

A long-range drone strike by Yemeni armed forces has caused a massive explosion in Tel Aviv. The attack occurred near the US consulate and resulted in the death of one person, marking the first deadly drone strike against Tel Aviv since October 7. Yemen’s Ansarallah named the drone "Yafa" in tribute to the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1948, the beginning of the Nakba.
Confirming the airstrike, Yemeni spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree flagged Tel Aviv as a “primary target,” stating that they would “continue to strike these targets in response to the enemy’s massacres and daily crimes against our brothers in Gaza.” Around dawn, Israeli media reported that the US military had allegedly intercepted four additional unmanned aircraft en route to Israel.

It appears that the German intelligence service is monitoring us. Why? Because some “journalists” and politicians have a problem with our popularity among pro-Palestinian protesters. According to these “journalists,” we’re even “instigating” the pro-Palestinian demonstrations here.
Since the onset of the war in Ukraine and especially since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza, activists, journalists, media outlets, and academics have become targets of the German media. They are being canceled, publicly subjected to witch hunts, and even their names and pictures are being published in newspapers.
The state, with the help of the media, will harass you, publicly hound you, and possibly even investigate you. Nevertheless, the long arm of the censors will not stop our coverage.

Deadly clashes continue to grip Bangladesh, where the death toll rose to at least 14 as police opened fire on protesters. With more than 7,000 government paramilitary troops deployed, more than 500 people have been injured since the protests turned fatal earlier this week.
Witness testimonies, video, and photographic evidence analyzed and authenticated by Amnesty International and its Crisis Evidence Lab have confirmed the use of force by police against the protesters.
Amid the escalating violence, the government announced that it would engage in dialogue with the students protesting the reinstatement of discriminatory quotas for government jobs. The students, however, have rejected the government’s proposal for talks.
The students continue to call for a nationwide shutdown of the South Asian country as protests spread to other parts of the country beyond the capital, Dhaka.

The state-killing of three alleged Free Papua Movement (FPM) members ignited significant political unrest in the Puncak Jaya Regency of Central Papua. In retaliation for these deaths, seven Indonesian police and military vehicles were either set ablaze or destroyed.
Local media reports indicate that the shootings happened when suspected FPM members resisted arrest by state security forces. The Free Papua Movement has been active since 1963 and strives for Papua's independence from Indonesia. Its military arm, the West Papua National Liberation Army (WPNLA), leads the armed resistance.
Indonesia took control of the territories after gaining independence from Dutch colonial rule in the 1960s with the support of the US and other Western nations.
In late December 2021, the WPNLA announced plans to intensify the conflict and target Indonesian interests across West Papua throughout 2022.

Six protesters have been killed in repression meted out by both the police and supporters of the neoliberal government of Bangladesh.
Students have been rallying all week against nepotism in the public sector in which government jobs are reserved for the family members of those who fought in the 1971 War of Independence.
The government has closed schools in response to the clashes. Protesters have also reported that the internet data network for mobile phones has been cut, about which the government has yet to make a statement.
The extreme neoliberal model in Bangladesh, with virtually no regulations on the private sector, has made the country a hub for sweatshops offering low wages and poor conditions. This is what makes public sector jobs so appealing.

Israel’s genocide against Palestinians is being aided and abetted by normalization agreements, indifference, and support from Arab states, including Morocco. Just a few days ago, news circulated about Morocco's intent to purchase a spy satellite from Israel Aerospace Industries in a $1 billion deal.
Trump's 2020 Abraham Accords and so-called “Deal of the Century” marked the official establishment of diplomatic ties between Morocco and Israel in exchange for US recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara. Since then, Morocco and Israel have continued their military and intelligence cooperation.
Despite protests by the Moroccan people, normalization continues in the form of economic and military support for the Israeli colonial regime.

A mob of Hindu extremists stormed and razed the Raza Jama Mosque in Kolhapur, India, as right-wing violence shook the city in the state of Maharashtra. According to local Muslims, the attackers set fire to a Quran and committed arson while shouting “Jai Shri Ram,” a chant used by Hindu-fascist groups as they target Muslims and other minorities.
The attack on the mosque was part of a larger campaign by a Hindu extremist group to remove nearly 150 structures that they claim are “encroaching” on the Vishalgad Fort, which is a historical Hindu site.
The state of Maharashtra especially, currently ruled by the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena, has seen a significant rise in hate crimes and genocidal calls against Muslims since the ascendance of the BJP.

Protesters in eastern Congo (DRC) are rallying against the advance of the M23 rebel group that has destabilized the country and plunged it into violence, allegedly with foreign funding.
The looting of Congo’s natural resources is possible in part thanks to the constant destabilization by armed groups that has led to territorial disintegration. The M23 is the largest of these groups and has long been accused by the DRC of being funded by Rwanda, a key Western ally in the region. Rwanda also has its own interests in Congo, namely gold smuggling, which forms a key part of the government’s foreign reserves.
Rwanda denies any financial links with the M23. However, UN reports have accused Rwanda of using this group as a proxy force.

“It’s a war now.” – On Friday, a telecommunications blackout isolated Bangladesh from the rest of the world, as the nation of 170 million braced for escalating violence following days of intensifying clashes between students and security forces.
After the deadliest day of ongoing student uprisings in Dhaka, Bangladesh prepared for even harsher crackdowns, including a total ban on all protests. The death toll has now reached 64.
The protests strongly echo the powerful student movements of the 1960s worldwide, with formations of hooded blocks uniformly wielding sticks or metal rods.
Student protesters stormed a jail, freed hundreds of inmates, and set it ablaze.
Over 100 police officers have been reported injured in the latest protests.
Hundreds of student protesters stormed the HQ of the state broadcaster, Bangladesh Television, and set it on fire.
Several official websites in Bangladesh appear to have been hacked. On the PM’s website, a message reads “It’s not a protest anymore. It’s a war now.”
Did you know women were at the forefront of the Sandanista uprising which overthrew the US-backed Somoza dictatorship in Nicaragua on this day 45 years ago?
30% of guerrilla combatants were women. In Nicaragua’s first democratic elections in 1984, 67% of the women who voted in that election voted for the FSLN.
”The revolution cannot be done without the participation of women,” – FSLN Commander Doris Tijerino once said.

On this day 45 years ago, the socialist guerrilla Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional ended the rule of the US-backed Somoza clan in Nicaragua, which plundered one of the poorest countries in the region for 43 years.
However, the revolution faced the immense challenge of rebuilding the impoverished country, as the dictator left behind empty coffers and $1.5 billion in foreign debt. The Sandinista also faced US imperialism, which feared “another Cuba” in Central America, and sought to bring the revolution to its knees with devastating sanctions and funding the counter-revolutionary contras.
The new revolutionary political system survived, and life expectancy increased from 55 years in 1970 to 63 years in 1990. The women in Nicaragua during the Sandinista Revolution saw their way of life drastically change, emerging as active participants and leaders. The FSLN’s “National Literacy Crusade” reduced the national illiteracy rate from 50.35% to 12.9% in 1980.

Israel bombed yet another school in Gaza, bringing the number of school shelters targeted in recent days to nine. At the same time, the Bureij and Nuseirat refugee camps in the central Gaza Strip continued to be targeted by Israeli airstrikes. The official death toll from Israel’s relentless war on Gaza now stands at at least 38,848 people, with 89,459 injured.
Thousands upon thousands of displaced Palestinians continue to seek safety in school shelters across Gaza despite Israel’s repeated bombardment. As the humanitarian catastrophe intensifies, people are left with no option but to seek refuge in many of the schools-turned-shelters.
The dire situation is further exacerbated by Israel’s systematic destruction of water facilities coupled with the deliberate obstruction of aid. A new Oxfam report says that Israel’s actions have reduced the amount of water available in Gaza by 94%.

Happy birthday to the first Black president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela! Here is a throwback to when Mandela shut down an ignorant journalist's question about his comradeship with “US enemies” like Fidel Castro on national TV.
Mandela retorted “One of the mistakes which some political analysts make is to think that their enemies should be our enemies.” His response was met with a deafening applause.

NOW: Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected as president of the European Commission.
The European Union has thus doubled down on its seemingly unwavering commitment to the war of extermination against Gaza. There have already been calls for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Von der Leyen for complicity in war crimes and genocide.
Always the spokesperson for the military-industrial complex, co-organizer of the refugee mass grave in the Mediterranean and new best friend of Italian fascist Giorgia Meloni, Von der Leyen is once again the representative of the European Commission.

Israel’s relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip continued overnight, with nearly a dozen Palestinians killed in several strikes across the Strip. The locations bombed include the Bureij and Nuseirat refugee camps in central Gaza, as well as the town of az-Zawayda. Simultaneously, northern Gaza remains under constant shelling from Israel.
With nearly 100 Palestinians killed in Gaza in 24 hours and only a fraction of the enclave’s hospitals remaining, the humanitarian situation is set to only worsen. Hospitals in southern Gaza especially are at a “breaking point” due to the nonstop influx of injured people by relentless Israeli bombardments, the Red Cross said.
Furthermore, the continued closing of the Rafah crossing at the southern end of the Gaza Strip has led to the deaths of at least 292 Palestinians, including many who were denied exit as they awaited treatment outside the Gaza Strip.

Nine Palestinians, including three children, were killed in an Israeli strike outside Gaza City’s Cairo School in the al-Rimal neighborhood. Israel has significantly stepped up its bombardment across the Gaza Strip, with at least 27 Palestinians killed across the enclave just since dawn today while 81 have been killed in the last 24 hours.
While the UN Security Council is holding its quarterly session on the Middle East, Israel has been busy bombing the Gaza Strip from north to south. Earle Courtenay Rattray briefed the Security Council, saying that nowhere in Gaza is safe. Nearly the entire population of Gazma, almost two million people, has been forcibly displaced. Many have been displaced multiple times.
Rattray added that the humanitarian support system in Gaza is close to total collapse. With the Rafah crossing closed, humanitarian operations are even further hampered, leaving Palestinians in Gaza without urgently needed aid.

The dramatic surge in Israeli attacks on densely populated areas housing thousands of displaced Palestinians continues. After conducting several massacres across the Gaza Strip, including in central Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp, central Gaza has witnessed even more attacks overnight, killing several people.
The Nuseirat and Bureij refugee camps, az-Zawayda area, and city of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza came under attack, with a mosque and several homes housing displaced Palestinians being targeted. According to the UN, the strike in Deir el-Balah hit close to its joint operation center. The Nuseirat camp has already seen a series of deadly attacks over the past days, with two of its UNRWA-run schools bombed by Israel.
Since the start of Israel’s brutal war on the Gaza Strip, 70% of UNRWA schools in Gaza have been bombed with at least 539 people sheltering inside their premises killed.
