Clashes between protesters and police have broken out in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, the latest in a series of anti-government protests. Police fired stun grenades at crowds of protesters who closed in on the parliament before being dispersed. At least 79 protesters were injured and at least 98 were arrested.
The escalation in protests followed comments made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the completion of a peace treaty with neighbor and longtime adversary Azerbaijan. The treaty would end one of the longest-running conflicts in the former Soviet Union.
The opposition movement, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, has been spearheading the weeks-long protests to demand the resignation of Pashinyan. They view his concessions to Azerbaijan as a betrayal of the country. Last month, as part of the peace talks, Pashinyan handed over control of four border villages to Azerbaijan, sparking mass protests across Armenia.

Militant environmental activists are stepping up their fight in France in opposition to the A69 highway construction, citing severe environmental impacts. Clashes with police started as thousands protested against the project.
The controversy surrounding the A69 project stems from its anticipated environmental impact. The A69 project, which began construction in 2023 and is expected to be operational by the end of 2025, is estimated to cost 450 million euros.
Michel Forst, the UN Rapporteur on Environmental Defenders, visited the site recently and called for "immediate protective measures" for the activists. Forst criticized France for having the worst record in Europe regarding police repression of environmental activists, highlighting the excessive use of force.

Chilean Communist leader Daniel Jadue is facing persecution under the centrist Boric government. Jadue has been given pre-trial detention over alleged corruption during his time as a local mayor. He says no evidence has been presented, which is why he has not been convicted. His fate will be decided this week.
Jadue has been a figurehead for leftist critics of the centrist Boric government. Ever since he was elected, Jadue has spoken out against Boric's right-wing turn, and many say that this is the real reason behind the persecution.

Ethnic tensions in India’s northeastern state of Manipur have reached a new boiling point. Deadly clashes have been occurring across the state, most notably in Jiribam district. The renewed violence follows the defeat of the governing far-right Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state’s general elections.
Following the death of an ethnic Meitei in Jiribam, for which rival armed groups blame each other, clashes erupted. Kuki-Zo tribals are said to have set fire to multiple Meitei villages as “retribution against Arambai Tenggol who initiated these violent acts.” The Kuki-Zo group added that “the tribals will no longer remain silent in the face of aggression.”
In response to the escalation, Indian security forces moved into the area. Meanwhile, both parties accuse the security forces of colluding with rival groups. The latest outbreak of violence has led to the displacement of over 1,000 individuals, both Meitei and Kuki-Zo.

Due to its links to right-wing paramilitaries in Colombia, the banana empire “Chiquita Brands” has been sentenced by US courts to pay a fine of $38.3 million. This verdict represents a major win for nine victims whose family members were killed by these paramilitaries.
The victims sought justice in the USA after a 2007 agreement between the US company Chiquita and the Department of Justice.
Chiquita’s financial support of the far-right AUC (United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia) and its involvement in the arms trade were boosting the paramilitaries’ expansion. These groups were responsible for killing tens of thousands and displacing millions during Colombia’s armed conflict.
Former paramilitary leader Jesús Ignacio Roldán Pérez testified in court that on November 5, 2001, paramilitary groups in the Magdalena department received a shipment of 3,400 AK-47 rifles and seven million rounds of ammunition. These weapons were unloaded from a ship owned by Chiquita Brands.

Sudan's civil war has now displaced over 10 million people internally in just over a year, according to the latest UN figures. An additional two million have been forced to flee the country.
The siege of El Fasher by the UAE-backed paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against the Sudanese military is intensifying displacement through fierce fighting.
Doctors Without Borders reports that the RSF stormed the town's main hospital, which the NGO operates, forcing it out of service. The organization called the attack “outrageous” and noted that it is “not an isolated incident.”
The RSF currently controls the capital, Khartoum, and most of western Sudan. It is now advancing towards the geographic center of the country.
El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, is the last city in the region that is still held by the Sudanese army. In May, Human Rights Watch warned that RSF violence against the non-Arab population in Darfur may constitute genocide.

Did you know that the first gay marriage in the Philippines took place in the guerrilla territories of the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines? In 2005, the revolutionary LGBTQI+ marriage broke legal barriers to gay marriage.
“The only way the LGBTQ community can find liberation from gender oppression is to topple down class oppression,” according to a gay party member, who also added, “We should forge unity with other classes and sectors against a common enemy. Gay or not, we are all victims of imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism.”
In the 1990s, the party accepted the idea that all LGBTQI+ relationships should be considered equal to heterosexual ones. A 2019 Social Weather Stations survey shows that 60% of Filipinos believe the LGBTQI+ community is discriminated against.

Violent conflict in Haiti continues after the US-backed "transition" that was supposed to control the situation and prepare the country for foreign intervention.
Over the weekend, three police officers were killed in an attack claimed by Jimmy "Barbecue" Cherizier, leader of the G9 gang. Furthermore, the new Prime Minister, Garry Conille, was hospitalized within just days of taking office.
Conille, a former UN official, was taken to a Port-au-Prince hospital due to an undisclosed health issue. He arrived to Haiti on June 1st to be sworn in as Prime Minister, a prelude to the US-funded foreign intervention led by Kenyan forces, which has been delayed numerous times and is now set to take place two weeks from now.

Thousands have taken to France’s streets as President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the country’s parliament. Following a crushing defeat to the country’s far-right, Macron has called for snap legislative elections in an unexpected turn of events.
Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally party won the elections by a landslide, winning 31.5% of the vote - more than double that of Macron’s Renaissance party.
Macron justified his call for snap elections by saying “France needs a clear majority to act in serenity and harmony.” However, what may seem like a “commitment to democratic ideals” could actually open the doors to the country’s rising far-right.
At the same time, other far-right parties across Europe have seen unprecedented gains. In Germany, the AfD took second place in its European Parliament elections, with many right-wing parties bolstering their position.

On this day 59 years ago, the people of Oman’s Dhofar province ignited their armed struggle. Motivated by Arab nationalist sentiment, the struggle aimed to overthrow the feudal Sultan Said bin Taimur, who had treated Dhofar as his personal domain.
In 1968, taking inspiration from the previous year’s success of the Yemeni National Liberation Front, the Dhofar Liberation Front changed its name to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Oman and the Arabian Gulf (PFLOAG) and officially embraced Marxism-Leninism as its fundamental ideology.
The PFLOAG drew considerable inspiration from Maoist theory and the People’s Republic of China, endeavoring to position the Omani people’s struggle within the broader context of the decolonization movement that swept across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Riots broke out in Buenos Aires against the senatorial approval of a devastating austerity package by ultra-neoliberal President Javier Milei. During the 11-hour debate in the senate, police escalated the crackdown against a broad front of protesters outside the building.
Molotovs, water cannons, tear gas, rubber bullets, police cars set on fire, and more dominated the scene deep into the night in Argentina's capital.
Milei has failed to pass a single piece of legislation during his first six months in office. However, he has pushed through massive austerity measures for social programs and universities, squeezing the country’s working class. The official poverty rate in Argentina is currently over 50%.
Growing anger over the demolition of the last pillars of the welfare state is triggering the escalation on the streets. While Argentina's inflation hangs around 300%, Milei is busy on the international stage currying favor with US, Israeli, and European far-right politicians.

“Overthrow Imperialism” is what Filipinos are calling for on the Philippine Day of Independence. Several protests were held in Manila where Filipinos called for an end to both US and Chinese imperialism.
In front of the Chinese consulate in Manila, protesters called for an end to what they described as “China’s occupation of the West Philippine Sea.” They demanded China stop harassing Filipino fisherman and to stop stealing the country’s food supplies.
Another protest was held in front of the US Embassy in Manila a day later. Protesters there accused President Marcos of being a US puppet, as he recently expanded US military access to islands within striking distance of Taiwan.
Activists say the Philippines are being used as a turf for the build-up to inter-imperialist war. Meanwhile, the Communist Party of the Philippines and New People’s Army continue to wage a revolutionary guerrilla war against the government with the aim of establishing a socialist state.

Today is Philippines Independence Day commemorating the country's declaration of Independence from Spain in 1898. It is marked with a public reading of the declaration in Kawait, where it was first read 105 years ago at the Aguinaldo Shrine. Parades also take place across the country, including in the capital Manilla where the President makes a speech followed by a 21-gun salute.
Inspired by the anti-colonial movement in another Spanish colony, Cuba, the Philippines Revolution started in 1896, led by a revolutionary group known as the Kaptipunan. However, following a nationwide armed revolt, a brutal internal power struggle led to a bourgeois betrayal of the revolutionary movement resulting in numerous setbacks.
Although victory over the Spanish colonists was achieved, the Filipino people were betrayed not just by their bourgeois leaders but by the US, who effectively took over as colonialists from the Spanish. It would take many decades before the Filipino people were finally free.

Protests against the dramatic gains made by far-right forces in the EU elections broke out again in Paris. In reaction to the results, thousands have been taking to the streets across France for days.
Video footage shows a brutal crackdown by the Paris police against the protesters, who came under fire from tear gas.
France's right-wing populists led by Le Pen have emerged as the clear winners of the European elections. With over 30% of the votes secured, they outperformed President Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance Party by a factor of two.
In response, Macron dissolved parliament and announced snap elections. While Macron was originally confident of victory, the far-right National Rally party is now expected to emerge victorious.

The US floating pier in Gaza has evoked many questions and conspiracies.
On March 7, the US announced it was building a pier to supposedly bring aid to the besieged enclave (ignoring the fact that Israel is the only thing standing in the way of doing so via land routes). After its construction, the port was damaged by bad weather. Only one day after it was fixed, the Nuseirat massacre happened. Over 270 Palestinians were killed.
To enter Nuseirat refugee camp, Israeli forces disguised themselves as displaced people. During the operation, the truck “broke down” and the Israeli military rushed into the area with a different truck, this time disguised as one carrying aid.
The US forces provided support but it has not been confirmed whether US troops actively participated in the operation. The hostages were flown out of Gaza on a helicopter that took off a few hundred meters from the pier. Following the massacre, the UN World Food Program paused delivering aid through the pier.

German media has become complicit in the state’s authoritarian witch-hunt against critics of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Due to our dedicated coverage of Germany’s crackdown on Palestine solidarity, our “colleagues” from major German outlets have also come after us, circulating misinformation about red., including that we have been “staging” pro-Palestine protests and are “close” to Russia.
German newspaper, Tagesspiegel collected these claims, and added absolutely no evidence, to create a hit-piece on red., where they also admit that they refused to publish our answers.

Portuguese police violently attacked anti-fascist protesters yesterday. The neo-Nazi group 1143 had organized a demonstration in front of the Monument of the Discoveries in Lisbon, Portugal. The monument was designed by the fascist leader, Salazar, and glorifies Portuguese colonialism.
A counter-protest was organized to oppose the fascist event. Organizers called it a "Day of Anti-Racist Struggle" and commemorated Alcindo Monteiro, a Cape-Verdean man who was murdered by neo-Nazis in Lisbon on June 10, 1995. Among his attackers was Mário Machado, the same neo-Nazi who can be seen in the video physically threatening an anti-fascist protester.
At the protest, the police not only allowed the neo-Nazis to act with impunity, performing Nazi salutes and threatening anti-fascist counter-protesters; they themselves attacked the counter-protestors opposing these expressions of fascism.

Did you know that Maoism influenced the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY) between 1969 and 1978?
Despite the commonly held belief that PDR Yemen was nothing but a Soviet satellite state, it had a brief period between 1969 and 1978 when Maoist China influenced the country more than the Soviet Union. During this period, Yemen had a very small industrialized proletariat and relied on the peasantry for economic development.
Yemen’s socialists successfully built a welfare state with high-quality education, guaranteed employment, and subsidized housing.

The death toll from Israel’s massacre in Nuseirat refugee camp surpassed 274 with over 698 injured. Israel bombed a market and surrounding buildings as a cover up for a hostage rescue operation.
The operation was jointly carried out by Israeli and US special forces who disguised themselves as people fleeing the South. Witnesses say that they used the US-built pier (which was supposedly constructed to provide aid to Palestinians) to invade the camp.
European Union High Representative Josep Borrell condemned the attack as “another massacre of civilians,” adding ”The bloodbath must end immediately.” Israeli politicians and the US praised the success of the operation in rescuing hostages. Meanwhile, Gaza’s ruling party announced that three other hostages were killed by Israeli strikes.
Israel’s relentless war on Gaza over the past nine months has killed over 37,124 people including over 15,000 children and injured more than 84,712.

Did you know that Israel's bombing of Gaza's beaches was in the IDF rulebook long before October 7? On this day, the world heard the cries of 11-year-old Huda Ghalia, whose family was killed by Israeli air forces on the beach of Beit Lahiya in Gaza in 2006.
Huda’s life was forever changed when she saw her father and five of her siblings killed by a shell from an Israeli barge while they were on a family trip to the beach.
A Palestinian Videographer documented the details of the massacre as his lens captured young Huda searching for her father and siblings before finding them lying in their blood on the beach, causing her to scream and wail.
In 2017, Huda succeeded in earning a law degree, and she continues to hold onto the hope of being able to pursue legal action against the Israeli army in international courts.
But as Israel’s relentless extermination war continues, the distressing accounts of suffering are being echoed time and again in Gaza.
