Watch James Baldwin, the revolutionary writer and fierce advocate for anti-imperialism, LGBTQIA+ rights, and feminism in his iconic interview on love and sexuality: “Love is where you find it.”

Born in Harlem, New York, in 1924, Baldwin powerfully depicted the harsh socio-economic realities African Americans faced due to capitalist exploitation and racial inequality. His groundbreaking gay novel “Giovanni’s Room,” published in Paris in 1956, broke barriers.

Baldwin’s activism spanned continents; he supported the Algerian struggle and advocated for Palestinian freedom from Israeli occupation saying Israel “was created for the salvation of the Western interests.”

A staunch critic of the US government’s civil rights stance, Baldwin faced relentless FBI surveillance. But Baldwin didn’t stop there and joined forces with the Black Panther Party, fighting for socialism for America.

Why do Palestinians in Gaza distrust the US as a mediator?

Listen to our colleague Hassan R. Esdodi from Rafah explain the reasons why the US cannot be a guarantor in any ceasefire deal between Gaza’s ruling group and the Israeli government.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is masquerading as a neutral actor, most recently by announcing $400 million in US support to Palestinians. The US is now promoting its ceasefire proposal, which was just passed by the UN Security Council.

Palestinians remain skeptical about the US as they see it as a partner in the war being waged against them in Gaza.

With the recent unrest in New Caledonia making international headlines, many have by now heard of its native Kanak population and their name for the Pacific archipelago, Kanaky. For Germans, however, these names leave a bitter aftertaste. How come, you may ask? It all goes back to Germany’s forgotten colonial past in the South Pacific. Here’s how German colonialism turned a native Polynesian word into every German racist’s go-to slur.

Israel has escalated its attacks across occupied Palestine yet again as Palestinian Muslims mark the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha. The official death toll currently stands at 37,347, including over 15,000 children.

As Israel ramps up its ground invasion of the southern Gaza Strip, Israeli forces suffered one of their deadliest days in the enclave. Gaza’s ruling group said it carried out “a complex ambush against enemy vehicles” in the southern part of the city of Rafah, killing eight Israeli soldiers.

At the same time, Israeli forces have been carrying out deadly attacks across the Gaza Strip. Since Saturday night, Israeli bombardment killed at least 51 people, including at least five children.

In occupied Jerusalem, Israeli police violently prevented Palestinian Muslims celebrating Eid al-Adha from entering Al Aqsa Mosque and carried out a series of overnight raids across the occupied West Bank.

German media has become complicit in the state’s authoritarian witch-hunt against critics of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Due to our dedicated coverage of Germany’s crackdown on Palestine solidarity, our “colleagues” from major German outlets have also come after us, circulating misinformation about red., including that we have been “staging” pro-Palestine protests and are “close” to Russia.

German newspaper, Tagesspiegel collected these claims, and added absolutely no evidence, to create a hit-piece on red., where they also admit that they refused to publish our answers.

Fierce fighting continues to plague Sudan as the UN Security Council demands an end to the siege of Sudan’s North Darfur state capital. The siege of El Fasher by the UAE-backed paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has left hundreds of thousands trapped in the last large urban center in the western Darfur region, not under RSF control.

Meanwhile, reports have come out of Sudan, saying that the Sudanese military killed RSF Major General Ali Yaqoub. Ali Yaqoub was the commander of the paramilitary group in Central Darfur, playing a significant role in the operations of the RSF in the region.

With fighting in the country’s west raging, the RSF is also said to have committed another massacre in Sennar state on the other end of the country. Initial reports say that more than 10 residents of the village of Sheikh al-Samani have been killed following an RSF attack, with dozens more wounded. The numbers are yet to be confirmed.

72 people died when a fire broke out seven years ago today in Grenfell Tower, a residential social housing building for people on low incomes in North Kensington, West London. People burnt and choked to death in one of the wealthiest cities in one of the richest countries worldwide because local politicians wanted to save money.

Following the disaster, it emerged that a cheap but unsafe form of cladding had been installed on the outside of the building, which allowed the fire to spread more easily. There weren't any sprinklers, and the fire doors failed to close properly. At first, the fire brigade also told residents to stay in their apartments.

The disaster demonstrated the British political elite’s contempt for the poorer sections of society. There has been no political accountability for the disaster, and six years of an inquiry have yet to report its findings, and there have been no prosecutions.

On this day in 1980, revolutionary socialist, guerrilla intellectual, and pan-Africanist Walter Rodney was assassinated by a car bomb. 41 years later, the Guyanan government admitted responsibility for Dr. Rodney’s political assassination.

Rodney developed a Marxist analysis of the pan-African liberation struggle that placed Black power at its core and argued that only “under the banner of socialism and through the leadership of the working classes” could Africans break from imperialism and colonialism.

He was particularly critical of the post-colonial Jamaican middle class for ignoring the country’s extreme poverty. On the streets of Kingston, he delivered public lectures known as “groundings,” where crowds gathered to discuss radical political and cultural ideas.

In 1974, he accepted a position at the University of Guyana and returned to his home country. However, the government prevented his appointment. On Friday, June 13, 1980, Rodney was assassinated by a bomb in Georgetown.

Displaced victims of the recent floods in southern Brazil have begun a housing occupation campaign that involves taking over empty public buildings to provide shelter for those who lost their homes. However, the state governor ordered police to violently evict the families.

More than 600,000 people were displaced by the floods across the Rio Grande do Sul state in the last couple of months, and many remain without permanent shelter. In response the Movement of Struggle of Favelas and Townships (MLB) launched this campaign to occupy empty buildings in the state capital Porto Alegre.

Other social movements have also stepped in to provide disaster relief for those affected. The Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) ran solidarity kitchens to make and distribute thousands of food parcels.

“A child is not a mother, a rapist is not a father,” is the slogan for Brazil's feminist movement that is currently fending off a right-wing legislative attack on abortion rights.

Mass protests took place across Brazil's major cities over the weekend in rejection of a new law that would deem any abortion after 22 weeks a homicide. Under the law, any woman or girl who has an abortion after this point would be prosecuted under murder charges. Protesters say that many of those who have an abortion after 22 weeks are usually underage girls.

The law is being rushed through Congress by the President of the lower house of Congress, Arthur Lira. Lira is a member of the Progressive Party, the organizational successor to the former military dictatorship. Brazil's current law allows abortion at any point in pregnancy for cases of rape or when there is a risk to life.

A quarter million protesters swarmed the streets of Paris against the latest far-right victories in the EU election. For the past week, daily protests, often involving clashes with police, have followed the surge of the far-right National Rally (NR).

The French authorities announced it would launch 21,000 police and gendarmes onto the streets. France's largest trade union, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), estimated the number of demonstrators reached 640,000 at a total of 182 rallies nationwide.

Macron took a big gamble when he dissolved the parliament after his party was defeated by the NR in the EU elections. With this move, he wanted to strengthen support for his party, but opened the door for Le Pen to take over government responsibility.

The recent elections resulted in France's first far-right government since the Second World War. In last week's European elections, the far-right NR received over 30 percent of the vote.

Yemen is making history as the only country actively fighting militarily alongside Gaza. A look at Yemen’s history adds to the picture of Yemen’s exceptional pioneering role in the region, as the South Yemen state from 1967 to 1990 was the only communist state in the entire Arab world.

Rare footage depicting life in the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen in 1974, at the height of what is commonly considered the country’s brief Maoist period. During this period, Salim Rubai Ali governed the PDR Yemen and received his political education at a Maoist commune in Hadhramaut province.

Notably, from 1969 to 1978, Mao’s China had more influence on the Popular Democratic Republic of Yemen than the Soviet Union. During this time, Yemen relied on the peasantry for economic development. The country’s socialists built a welfare state, offering high-quality education, guaranteed employment, and subsidized housing.

Happy birthday to José Carlos Mariátegui, one of the most essential Marxist intellectuals and communist militants in Latin America! The Peruvian journalist, political philosopher, and socialist was one of the first to apply Marxist analyses to the specific realities of the continent.

Despite facing numerous health challenges, such as tuberculosis, arthritis, and rickets, which disrupted his formal education, Mariátegui's passion for knowledge endured. He pursued self-education and embarked on a lifelong journey in journalism.

His Marxist analysis of the “Peruvian Reality” emphasized the inclusion of Indigenous communities and addressed land-related issues as fundamental to changing society, and has become paramount for revolutionaries all over Latin America.

Mariátegui’s founding of the Peruvian Communist Party and his instrumental role in organizing the inaugural conference of communist parties in Latin America solidified his reputation as a pioneer of socialism on the continent.

Israel killed two women in an airstrike on Jennata village in southern Lebanon. Rescue teams and medics continued removing the rubble in search of survivors. At least 14 people were injured in the strikes that targeted several villages in southern Lebanon.

The strikes followed a long day of escalation with over 150 rockets and drones launched towards Israeli military bases by Lebanon’s Hezbollah. The group’s attack is said to have been the largest since the group successfully fought off an Israeli invasion in 2006 and followed Israel’s assassination of one of the group’s senior leaders.

Since October 8, fire exchanges have continued along Lebanon’s southern border. But in recent weeks, they have been intensifying with Israeli leaders calling for a response to retrieve Israeli deterrence against Hezbollah at its northern border.

Happy birthday, Che Guevara, the Marxist icon par excellence, who changed the world forever during his short life! Starting as a humanitarian doctor, forged by the catastrophic consequences of capitalism in Latin America and immortalized in the communist struggle.

In 1953, bidding farewell to his parents, Guevara started with his legendary motorcycle trip across Latin America. In Mexico, he first encountered his future comrade-in-arms, the young Fidel Castro, who was preparing for the guerrilla struggle against Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship in Cuba.

Three years of guerrilla warfare followed, during which Che became the “comandante” of the Cuban revolutionaries. His victory catapulted the revolutionary onto the world stage. However, his revolutionary urge was not satisfied, and he once again threw himself into the guerrilla fight.

When the Bolivian army captured Che after a fierce battle in 1967, his captors executed him on the spot, following orders from the CIA.

What are the scenarios facing Palestinians who remain in Rafah? Listen to our colleague Hassan R. Esdodi describe the possibilities. Hasan decided to stay and report from the ground as the Israeli occupation forces continue their invasion of Rafah.

Despite opposition by the UN and various governments, including the US, Israeli forces have been operating in Rafah since early May.

Rafah was designated a safe zone at the beginning of Israel’s invasion of Gaza. As a result, around 1.5 million Palestinians were sheltering in the city. After Israel’s latest massacres in Rafah, less than 100,000 remain.

H3zbo!lah has launched its largest attack against Israel since October 7. According to Lebanese broadcaster Al Mayadeen, it is the biggest air attack since the Lebanese resistance group defeated the Zionist entity in 2006.

The unprecedented coordinated attack has involved at least 215 missiles and drones, hitting at least 15 Israeli military sites in northern occupied Palestine and the occupied Golan Heights.

The attack came in response to an Israeli strike that killed Taleb Abdallah, also known as Abu Taleb, one of the highest-ranking members of H3zbo!lah to have been killed since October 7.

Along Lebanon’s border, local Israeli council head, Amit Marom, was quoted by Israeli media as saying that settlers in his region were experiencing “an intensity of fighting that we have not known until now.”
